I thought I'd share this "new" find on the chance it might be to the liking of some(one) on Vital. It's troubled me for the last decade that I would have parted with my old T-shirts from the mid-70s, especially considering my penchant for the nostalgic and the retro. I discovered them with zeal this morning in a box in a guest bedroom closet; Christmas has come early this year:

It was hard to find me not wearing this stuff back then. The Honda T is a Hang Ten product; cowabunga!

Wish I had kept some of the t-shirt's through out the years, did manage to keep a really cool one though. One from my local Honda shop when I got my 73 xr75 in 75. Cool collection.

Thanks guys; the find was a good pick-me-up. My wife is a quilter and had boxed them up to make them into a quilt for me some day with other old shirts that I did keep track of. I might be able to squeeze into them but they're too ratty to be worn.

This is a shirt that I may cherish too much for it to be cut up for adding to a quilt; might put it behind glass instead:

kev, I too had a '73 XR-75, that I bought in '73. I wish I still had it!Pinch

Maybe not quite as old but awesome just the same; the DB collection! The only shirt I had with David on it was a "Gary Bailey's Cycle Barn" from Axton. I believe both he and Gary were depicted on their Pursangs with the barn in the background. That shirt is l-o-n-g gone.

Thanks for sharing those, great stuff. I assume "Orlando" refers to Orlando Sports Stadium, which I couldn't recall if it existed in '84 or not.

The cycle barn would be cool if you still had.
I only went down for the Gainesville round in 84 but believe it had to be the stadium. Did the first 3 rounds in 85 and believe Orlando was off the schedule.

Without doing the research that time frame sounds about right for its closing. Did you ever ride Orlando? The Dutch seemed to feel right at home there, as did I (no Dutch blood in me that I know of, but I do hail from Tampa).

For old time's sake, "Sugar Bear" making the most of the experience at Orlando, which was his manner:

Only Orlando I rode was practicing a Bithlo several times. No dutch here, I'm all around then but grew up on the sand of Long Island so I love the stuff! Cocoa was my favorite.
Great pic.

I've never been to Long Island, nor Southwick, but if the sandy tracks of New England were on par with what I've seen of Southwick then I certainly missed out!

The 1970's / 80's tracks of central and south Florida were brutal IMO. I "met" Southwick thirty years after riding those tracks...bikes are different, track prep techniques are different, I'm different...but by my fourth moto that afternoon, the Wick was every bit the bitch of a sand track that I remember Orlando, Diamondback, etc. being.

And to stay on topic, I intro'd a friend to the Daytona Supercross in 1985. He has been to every one since and has a t shirt from each one. I don't think he has any pics of them though.

I agree about the brutality. Sunshine got tougher when they added that back section up against the canal, sandy enough to mimic Orlando-style whoops. Another image for posterity, by chance Grossi once again trying to leave boot heel scrapes on the tops of the waves:

I haven't raced MX in decades, so I can only imagine how things have changed. I'd love to find out some day; Southwick would be "nice".

Great avatar, by the way Wahtash. I cut that comic strip series out each day that they appeared; still have them stored somewhere. I wonder how Charles Schultz was exposed to motocross before it went mainstream. That's one we'll never know.

I don't know holding on to nearly 40 y.o. shirts is more of an indication of being a packrat or just being passionate about something that meant so much to an impressionable kid.

They added something to Southwick , clay I believe some years back so its not exactly what it once was but still good and close. Should have left it alone in my opinion. The bottom of our frames and cases always looked sandblasted after a season.

Charles was exposed by way of his son racing and he still rides today. Racer X did stories on this 2 different times. One had the shot of Charlie and snoopy dicing it out on the cover, I still have it. Its from the movie, "your a good Sport Charlie Brown. Have you seen it?

Oh yea. If you are a Charlie Brown fan, its a must! Charlie and Linus picking out a bike at the motorcycle store, then snoopy smokes them all on a tennis ball machine. You can get it all over the web for less then $10
If you can't find the mag, pm me and I'll scan my copy for you.

Thanks for the input on the movie, PN27416. I will check it out, literally (it's listed in our local library's collection). I'm definitely a fan of the old Peanuts creations. Thanks also for the scanning offer, that's much appreciated. I'm leaving for a funeral in Florida now, but will contact you upon return.

Merry Christmas to all!

Put some words together on the 1980s/90s Dirt Shirts-era motocross event tees -- click here to check it out.

I've also been hunting for anyone who worked with/for a screen printing/graphic design company during this time. Got a lot of leads, but no responses. Would love to add another voice to this story so any info is appreciated!
