That bike is sweet, glad it hasn't been bastardized.

Destry and Ty going at it, crash together in the final turn.. I wonder if there was any bad blood, I bet they were picking thorns out of their backsides after this one!

that video was badass.

I've often times wondered if the kx450 was any better than the 500 for desert racing. seems like the 5hunny is pretty much tits in the wfo world of desert racing.

I think overall the 450 is probably better, desert racing is A LOT more than just wide open valleys and roads.

You say that like an aluminum frame is somehow "better".

I get this question a lot! Definitely two totally different types of bikes! The KX500 motor is for sure the best motor I've ever raced with! The 500 handles great at speed and the frame has more flex so it's really stable and good in rocks! The downfall is the fact it doesn't turn near as well as my KX450! I'm a lot more comfortable riding my 450 in 80% of the stuff I do. It's also a lot easier moving around on the 450 and a lot slimmer!

I do have to say I was really surprised at how good I felt on the 500! If I had to choose which one to race in my prime I would go with the 450!

Thanks for watching the video and I appreciate the kind words!

thanks for taking the time to answer that question.
actually a bit surprised to hear you like the kx5 engine that much still in comparison, i figured the r&d of the 450 would have beat it out by now but i'm a 2 stroke fan so i cant complain when i hear that haha.
sounds like someone needs to build you a AF conversion bike Smile

Destry,

loved the video and especially the DH1 sticker on the rear fender in the opening bike shot. i still have a bunch of those stickers and a pile of the posters he handed out at the Utah AMA HareHound national from way back. that time period holds a special time in my heart, i remember Danny's dad walking around the pits in his speedo leggings and running shorts in the early morning. Danny, yourself, Ty, the Pearsons, all of you guys were so approachable for an 80 rider like myself at the time. thank you for all the memories and for the great video posted above that brought a lot of that back.

Destry, any chance will see you running the 500 out at Canyon one of these days, or is it going back into the DA8 museum?
