February in Indianapolis was already sketchy, so now you are going to move it to December in Chicago of all places? JFC. All the more reason to start going to the new show in Orlando.

It's been a slow taper from what it was a few year's ago, and now with a major competitor (AIM Expo). It was time to try something new.

Yeah, the week after Thanksgiving, height of Holiday season, in Chicago, in winter

New ain't always better

How'd you like to be one of those who also does the Mini O's, like Lumpy or the Parts Unlimited or FMF folks, who then have to go from a week of Mini O's madness and then rush to Chicago to do set up and run the "big show" of the year?

Brain damage.

Plus, can you pick a city, any city, that has a worse reputation right now?

Parts Unlimited pulled out after the 2012 show. They already see the writing on the wall.

Anyone else see the irony here? Chicago has some of the most strict gun laws in the nation.

every year, they asked us what changes need to be made.
we told them lower vendor prices, relocate south ( i suggested Dallas) and move it back to the fall (sept-oct)
10 years later and they still dont get it.
Im in Chicago here and still dont think it will work.
bummer, that show used to be amazing.

with the good ole internet, the new products can be put out there immediately for the dealers to see, the dealer expo has just became less attractive for everyone to go to, spend a bunch of money in the winter when most dealers in the mid-west/north east are at the slowest. just don't make since for them to go.

choices choices ..... Warm Orlando in October or .... Cold Chicago in November.......... I'll take Warm in Orlando for $1000 Alex.

Its $5k for a 10x10 to do a Expo so I do not see many companies doing both.

I ditched Indy years ago, because it was too massive, too expensive and I do not want to go to Indy in the snow of February.....why would I go to Chicago the week after Thanksgiving??

Dave is right, they need lower prices, a more streamlined show, move south and do it during the real time of year when new products are announced, fall.

This Chicago move has fail written all over it

Glad I am doing AIMExpo and got in on ground floor

I'm not in the motorcycle industry but I have done a fair number of trade shows in Chicago. Is it at Merchandise Mart? If it is, some of you might be in for a surprise. It is a union building. It has its pros and cons, but time and speed is not one of them. You can't touch your merchandise until it is in your booth and that includes unloading at the dock. There is no side help anywhere, no extra hands, no dock favors ect. You are at the mercy of the order you get there and they stay in order. When leaving, you are on their order of exit. It is an experience for sure. Parking is also expensive. Hotels are expensive. It is an expensive show place.

I use to do the IMTEC show when it was in chicago, way back when. (the big marine trade show). the union deal was pretty tough on the booth setup, probably the largest factor that killed that show that had been running for 70 plus years.

i recomend the lennox house suites. dining was good though, the steak at carsons ribs, bistros 110, greek isles, the chop house, gene and georgetties,

What else could sway the day? I used to do the packaging show in Chicago. You had to grease some palms to get things moving. Of course we needed a lot more stuff, 3 phase electrical, plumbing, booth set up. You couldn't even hang photos in the back of your booth because that is a decorators union job. Crazy, "hey, you are taking someones job away" they would tell you. "No, they are trying to take my job away" I told them when I was younger not realizing that comment mysteriously got my paperwork lost. A good trick was to rip a twenty in 60/40, give them the smaller portion and tell them they get the other half after they help you out, that the money is no good to either one of you if they flake. Of course they don't usually know if they do flake, you can take the larger portion of the bill to the bank and trade it for an undamaged bill. This worked out great one time on a cruise vacation.
Big group of us wanted to go to this remote beach but were concerned about getting a van to come get us later in the day to get back. I negociated with this guy $200 to take us there (big group) and then pick us up in tthe afternoon to bring us back. told him I would pay him half when we got there and the rest when he picked us up. He thought he'ld drop us off then not come back. When I pulled the $20s out of my pocket riped them in half and gave him half of all the bills he looked at me like I was from the moon. But he came back for the rest of the money later!
