I wonder why the AMA dose not have a constructors championship in motocross. Like the fim do and f1. surely it would be better for the manufacturers to win the constructors championship title and not just the rider. Would help have more factory teams involved in a higher level

In F1 where you finish in the constructors championship determines how much of the profit sharing you get from the billions in revenue that sport creates. We obviously don't have that same situation in MX.

I really wonder how come this is not discussed more... I think it could make our sport a whole lot more intricate and interesting... Like would brand tactics rise? let so and so by so we get manufacture'r points etc.

I Find it rather weird, Nobody ever wants to discuss this.

I dont think we need the same sort of revenue size!! It doesn't cost a mx team..2 billion to run one season.....Car racing = exponentially more expensive than one sx/mx season.

The manufacturers would be more interested in filling the gate with their brand. Possibly have better contingency for the privateer. BUT, the money for the "Constructors Championship" would have to come from somewhere.
MIGHT end up having teams with more than 1 or 2 riders.

So, which of you is going to put up the sponsor money for this? Or will a plastic trophy be enough to entice the manufacturer's to care and support this?

The bike wins by brand are listed every week in a PR for each national, and i agree, i wish more attention was payed to them and an actual "points race" was made of it, F1 teams live and die by constructor standing payout at the end of the year. We could never go that far, but a simple standings and some sort of "award" would be cool.

Whether they do it or not they would have to rename it because there is not a real factory team racing in the US, its more like the US distributor's team.

You're right! I completely forgot that almost none of the teams are factory anymore... with the exception of ktm no?

No, they're going to hand out parfait and BBQ to the winners. No one can pass up parfait and BBQ.

I sent an idea similar to this to Feld last year.. I never heard back... Basically a Team Sponsor Championship.. Team sponsor is qualified by % that is funded to the team.. So if TwoTwo's biggest sponsor is America's Tire because they fund 20% of the budget.. They become the TSC entrant. Each team is allowed 2 riders score towards point total for a given event. This will promote sponsors to fund teams with more capitol to include 2 riders. Having 2 riders involved gives the t.v. broadcast something of substance to talk about. Now it matters where weimer finishes compared to R.V. It also forces the producers to pay attention to the mid pack guys battling.. The proposal that was sent had much more depth and was much better prepared. Writing this on my cell at work. I have a whole list of rules and a basic structure each item with a given benefit to growing the sport I/we love.

This idea also changes the dynamic of a Team talking to potential outside sponsors. Supercross/Motocross is a hard sell in the world of sponsor dollars. I think WMG is a great example of building brands, I.e. Pastrana,Mirra,Irons,Hart,Block but with Reed and TwoTwo it seems to be completely different animal. In my opinion it comes directly from the structure of how the sponsors are promoted from the series organizers.

a constructors championship would come in mighty handy when RV2 is 75 points up and it gets hard to sell seats late in the season....
