Farleigh Castle MX track getting laid out for this weekends vet MXdN. Wow.....congrats on a job well done guys. The event seems to keep growing year after year. And such a cool event it is in a faraway land known only as Premixia. Bucket list stuff.

Yes it is a real castle and the steps (ledges in woods) the track goes up and down, were first built so the peasants could sit & watch the knights of olde jousting in the valley below.

Can't wait for this coming weekend, should be great! I'd thoroughly recommend any and everyone to come over and experience it! Just a shame Stanton couldn't make it this year.

Europe is scattered with castles all over the place. My dad grew up in a small town in southern Germany. There was a castle which was maybe an 1/8 mile from the house. Also, there was a church with large wall, a stones throw from his house. In the event of an attack they would lock up the castle doors and the villagers that did not make it to the protection of the castle, went to the church for the protection of the tall walls there. the church yard wall was at least 3-5 ft thick and 12 ft tall. If the villagers got to the church after the church yard gates were locked, there was a secret tunnel under my dad's house that the villagers would use to get inside the church walls. these things are incredibly cool. I don't know how old the house is that my dad grew up in but the walls are mortar and stone and are like 3ft thick the full way up. It's a 3 story house. The opening to the tunnel was in the basement.

My parents house was built in the 16th century and was once a Chapel. Supposedly there's a cellar (now blocked up unfortunately) with a priest tunnel which leads under the road outside the house to the farm opposite.

In Warwick there are tunnels built under the entire town that link the Castle to certain places. (the conspiracy theorist think that they are still in use)

We broke into one when renovating a house, it's creepy as hell going into a tunnel that's been untouched for 100s of years.

My father grew up in Austria, used to have that stuff in his neighbourhood too. Well, until that little, uh, skirmish in the late 30's and early 40's. Seems that his town was on a popular return route for Allied Air Lines. If the primary and secondary target was clouded over, the cargo was dropped regardless. Don't land a B-17 full of bombs I guess, taking off was likely hazardous enough. They also nailed a hospital just outside town filled of wounded German soldiers and obviously, medical staff. Not one survivor. Crazy when you think how much history has been destroyed through our inability to tolerate each other.

The sad thing is , i have ridden at Lake Elsinore , and never ridden at Farleigh, although i think i might do they last round of the Maxxis British Vets championship , as its easier to get in than this race.

If you decide to come Newmann, you wont be short of help.

Honestly would appreciate any pics of the structures that have been described.
We have so much stuff here like that , it just gets taken for granted, i lived next to a famous Battlefield for 15 years, drove though it every day on the way to work, it has a proper visitor centre and everything , and i've never been there.... we used to ride on the land when we were kids.

Newmann, I got your email and will respond shortly. By the way, see where those porta cans are down in the valley? The first few times I went there, for the pisser, there were barge boards mounted on fence posts ( for modesty) and you'd piss right in a ditch cut in the ground with a backhoe. Made feel like one of the serf's from the castle Laughing . And yes, that's a real castle.
