Wade Wilcox Injectioneering Theif? You decide.

This is a heads up out there for all moto guys who were thinking about EFI TB (throttle body) mods and maybe using a company called Injectioneering. Unfortunately I found out a bit late on how Injectioneerings owner Wade Wilcox conducts business or rather in my case steals from people.

What went down:

I came to know about Injectioneering during winter ’09-‘10 through connections I have with major teams in motocross who were experimenting with his services. Long story short on May 18, 2010 we (my engine builder and I) decided to send Mr. Wilcox the CRF 450R throttle body off my bike and had him do his mod so we could test it. This was presented as a ‘bolt on’ mod so I was expecting no hassles and due to a testing date already booked I spent $160.00 for overnight air service to and from Injectioneering to have it in time.

The TB arrived back within a few days and I borrowed a stock TB from my dealer to do some back to back testing at the track. As this was a new mod-motor build I started with the stock TB to establish a baseline and then after several track sessions swapped in the modded unit. The bike immediately ran fat and had a serious hesitation (bog) off closed throttle when exiting corners. Even when you ran the bike sitting in the pits and cracked the throttle you could also experience the bog and if you were quick enough with your wrist you could snuff the motor. Put the stock TB back on and finished the day of testing, no issues bike is awesome.

Contacted Wade at Injectioneering and went over the issues, we tested sensors, output voltages, connections etc. etc. Since all was in spec the only suggestion he had left was to make a custom fuel map for the bike. At this stage I already had many hours into testing and diagnosing this thing and the additional dyno time to have our motor builder create a new custom fuel map for his TB (after having one built and tested for the mod motor with a stock throttle body) was not in the budget. This “bolt on” mod clearly was not.

In hearing Wade’s explanation of the how and why this mod works combined with the testing he had us do to ensure everything was functioning properly we discovered some technical limitations which call into question the approach Injectioneering has taken to create this mod. Without getting into the fine details of it we believe so far it’s been okay for MX because in motocross the percentage of time at WOT (wide open throttle) is far less than Supermoto so the problems it creates do not come to light as obviously and as severely as they do in our application.

Up to this point not an unkind word was spoken, we both politely agreed it was a fail for this application and in closing I even offered to test a revised body should he develop something down the road that was potentially going to work in Supermoto.

Wade offered to “undo” the mods, return the throttle body to stock and refund the fee along with our throttle body. We had a break in the schedule so I immediately shipped it back to Injectioneering and after knowing he had it for a few days called to find out the status on getting it back. Wade said: “it’s all done, I’m packaging it up as we speak” and wanted to know whether to send the refund check with the body or in the ordinary mail as both would go out that day. I asked for it to be mailed, said thanks and hung up. We’re now approaching a month later no check, no throttle body. It takes 6 days max by ground to ship from Toronto to Torrance, CA and about the same for US post to get here.

After 10 days I started calling, now oddly when I call I don’t get an answer, ever. He did by his own admitted mistake call me back on the 5th of July by redialing one of my calls from his call display. During that conversation he admitted to never sending the check as “I have no money right now” but did maintain the body went out UPS weeks ago. I pressed him for a tracking number and he told me “well I’m not at the shop right now and it’s a holiday but I promise to call you back first thing tomorrow with an answer on what happened” Still haven’t got that call.

I’ve called every day since and never an answer. I don’t think he realizes everyone knows he lives at his shop and his phone number is a landline (quick internet search), which means he was at his shop when he called me back.

I’ve left him umpteen messages giving him endless opportunity to call me back and just tell the truth about what is going on with my throttle body, nothing. Unfortunately we all like to believe people are on the up and up going in and only do research on them after they have shown their true colors. In canvassing the industry and the web you don’t have to go far to find others who have been shafted by Wade Wilcox or were about to be but because of who they are or know it got resolved.

The bill so far:

Injectioneering Mod $250.00
Air overnight shipping to and from $160.00
Return shipping $40.00
Replacement throttle body $601.89

$1051.89

Obviously no one likes to spend time detailing how a thief got the better of you, it’s embarrassing. However I can’t in good conscience sit idly by and let others walk through the same door without a heads up. Utilizing the same approach as another upstanding company Rock Racing, we’ve published on the Internet the facts of what transpired. Sadly once again Wade Wilcox of Injectioneering has foregone his right to deal with matters in private and is now being given the opportunity to challenge any statement herein and make things right. As with Rock Racing’s call for rebuttal I expect silence since the facts are documented and it’s hard to call keeping the property and money belonging to others anything other than theft which makes you a THEIF.

Thats a real bummer...sorry to hear of your bad luck using Wade's service. Scary and sucks for sure. I can only speak for myself and can honestly say that he did a throttle body mod for our team's 2010 YZ 450f...and the difference was amazing. It turned out to be one of the best mods on the bike we ever did and we had zero problems? I know of dozens of other teams who used his service and had no issues either...including a handful of the top twenty 250f pros in 2011?

I'm with the last poster, I've had nothing but good luck with Wade. I'm inclined to think theres more to the story than whats being told. The Geico Honda team as well as countless others use his throttle bodies and they wouldnt do so if he did bad work or he was causing problems. If you want a throttle body done talk with Wade directly before letting someone else on a website decide what you should do with your throttle body.

With all due respect your inclination would be wrong. There is nothing more this story. As far as I am aware the major teams using his services are past tense. Even so, screwing a known major team would be instant death in this industry so be assured he never tried to pocket their throttle bodies and keep their money. Most of them are based locally to him so an in person visit would surely take place and of course lawyers are always on retainer. Certainly there are people out there who used his services and got taken care of, I never claimed he screwed everyone. The point is, if he so chooses Wade has no qualms about screwing anyone, particularly those known to be beyond a reasonable drive.

To this date myself and others who have not posted here ( but I am aware of ) have never been contacted to make this right and Wade has never opted to appear here to defend himself or refute ONE word of what I have stated. And yes he is aware of the negative postings. What is also not noted is Wade has a long history (many years) with others taking money or product for services never rendered. This man has a long standing history of being a shyster.

I have long written off the cost to replace the stolen throttle body as a learning experience. This post was clearly marked as the telling of a factual experience with the option for the reader to decide on taking a chance to do business with a known theif. You are the king of you so contrary to your words I didn't decide anything for anyone. Should anyone decide to chance it on their own then they should not be surprised should if it not work out in their favor.

The money is secondary, the reason to post was so others didn't have to go through what I did. Getting taken and then spending a ton of energy chasing a con man.

Supermoto,

So theres nothing more to the story yet you go out of your way to send me a quick yet long winded response about it? Theres been no mention of contacting the better business bureau or anything of the sort so it sure seems your motivation isnt a resolution as much as complaining. I can only personally speak of the experience i have had and if his throttle bodies are good enough for Geico honda, Metcalf, Alessi, etc. (and not past tense as you claim), then it's good enough for me. Its made a noticeable gain on every one i have sent. I have no reason not to keep using him, but to each their own.

I don't know shit about any of this but if some one took my $1000 I would be complaining also. I would also be trying to get my money back. I think supermoto for his heads up. At least I know now. Thanks!!

I had a throttle body done by Wade about 3 months ago. During that time Wade was very professional and informative during the process. I received the throttle body back with in the expected time frame, and it is a great modification. I wanted to comment on this topic, as to a positive experience with Wade and his services.

Personally, I wouldn't consider sending anything to this guy until he answers these allegations. It looks like he just doesn't care by ignoring it, and that's unfortunate because if he is innocent it doesn't appear that way to an outsider such as myself.

I felt that calling into question the validity of my story warranted a detailed response. Did you check the BBB before dealing with Wade or anyone else in the industry? Nope and neither does anyone else. As a business person with experience in collections I can tell you the BBB doesn't really have a lot of teeth to make anyone come good on anything. Thieves are not too worried about a bad report at the BBB.

Seeking any legal recourse from over a border is cost prohibitive as it would surely cost more than the debt, so not worth pursuing. Being well connected at the highest levels in the industry I conducted some research and found out who and what I was dealing with. At the end of the day you can't get blood from a stone.

If I jammed you for a grand and you had no reasonable avenue of recovery I'd bet you'd look to do the same thing, cost me more than the debt in new business and more importantly try to prevent others from experiencing the same fate. If that is "complaining" then that is a badge I am happy to wear. Pretty sure if the guy at 7-11 jacked you a $20 on your change buying gas you'd have something to say about it.

Conveniently you've not called into question the other poster on here who experienced the exact same result. Perhaps when you are talking to your friend you could ask him to send my check and my throttle body back? I am sure Clint_Biddle above would like his too. I have all the paperwork / emails / receipts for my $1000+ on file here. Wade will have no proof that either my TB or Check was sent.. because it never was.

I've never met or dealt with Dave or Wade in my life, but I'll offer this comparison. There were a couple of people here at Vital who thought the Fanelli at MPS is a great guy who builds a quality 500AF. I thinks he's an arrogant cocksucker who takes peoples money under false pretenses, and should be tarred and feathered for selling the shit he builds. There's "no more" to my story, either. I paid good money for a hacked up piece of shit, no more, no less. My deal went the way it did, others have been happy with him.

Put quite simply, different people can have different results from the same business. Just because a guy builds a great product, doesn't mean he isn't an asshole, either. Sometimes, I've found people who are way too high on themselves and their abilities. Maybe, just maybe, Mr Injectioneering saw that Dave was from Canada, and saw an easy $1000. You just never know. I'll side with Dave on this one, and take his story at face value. I have a hard time taking this as concocted bullshit.

There is no question regarding Wade Wilcox's technical capabilities only his ethics. BTW I'm the person who connected Wade with Geico Honda along with everyone else in this industry including media types. What did I get for my efforts for almost a year's work? Wade not honoring our handshake agreement to pay me fifteen percent commission. As much as the thousands of dollars he screwed me out was a set back it was the opportunity cost of the time I spent/wasted supporting Wade's entry into the two wheeled world that really hurts.

I still appreciate Larry Brooks dropping him like a hot rock after he learned of Wade breaking our agreement. Ty Davis of Zip Ty Racing had a helluva time getting back his Husky stuff and I wonder if Dustin Nelson (think that is his name) is still waiting on his quad motor to come back from Injectioneering.

Putting Wade into the MX business is my biggest regret since I started working in the MX industry.

Just received my throttle body back from Wade, the process went just as he stated it would. The bike runs and performs better than every. I'm very happy with the service I received.

To be totally honest..If I got stuck for a grand like that and had no way to personally confront this man or legally rite the wrong...I'd call that sob 200 times a day...day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day....from here to eternity untill I got the result I wanted...
I'd call from friends phones...from different numbers etc..

I'd e mail him 200 times a day...day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day....you get the point....and so would he....I wouldn't stop....if it took five years...I wouldn't stop!!
