I will have to say yes he can and will do it at the MXoN . Hell we have rookies here in the states that are yarding former world GP champions with ease . We all know Tomac does not get good starts , but he really doesn't need them at the MXoN . GP riders tend to take a few laps to get warmed up while here in the states its wide open from green flag to checkers . Tomac won't have to ride through a pack of faster americans to get up and race with the GP world champs . I can see a repeat of 2007 MXoN , this time it will be with ET . If ET gets the holeshot it will be a slaughter .

Eli Tomac is the future of American motocross and the reason guys like Herlings and AC 222 will stay on that side of the Atlantic Ocean . They have it made there . They just changed the rules for Herlings to stay in the 250 class while waiting for AC to retire . They have it made in the GP's . I wish they would come here and race , but it's not going to happen .

You won't see Caroli and Herlings lining up at A-1 , just to get their feet wet in supercross .

I think Tomac can beat anyone on any given day. Same for Herlings and Cairioli. I don't think over the course of a championship season that Herlings or Cairioli could beat Tomac or Poto for the championship, but at some tracks they're as fast as anyone.

Just watched yesterdays motos again and I got to say that Tomac is at another level right now. He made Roczen look like his bitch. And Roczen is far from slow. The lap times he managed to put down was just....unreal.
He will smoke both Herlings and AC, no doubt about it.

Tomac would beat them anywhere except A couple of the euro sand tracks that they practically live at.

Any word on when Team USA will be announced? Isn't it usually around Unadilla?

Cairoli actually DOES live there. Right down the road. Considers it his his practice track and has run THOUSANDS of laps on it. Just for fun, let's hold a couple of MXdNs on Villopoto and Tomac's practice tracks...and see what happens.

"yes he can", like a few guys (RD, JB, AC, GP, JH, CD, KR), but based on your mindset I must ask you a few questions:

1. Do you know JH on the 250 is also regularly faster than AC on the 350 ?
2. Do you mean rookies that are older than JH who has already 30 GP wins?
3. KR may be slower but he keeps it on 2 wheels, who is the SX Lites champ?
4. I do not remember his name, who hold the red plate in AMA Nationals Lites 2013 until half season?
5. Did you see how Baggett was moving through the pack back in 15-20th at the MxdN in France after getting poor starts?
6. Do you know the intensity is different because the GP races are 5 minutes longer?
7. To answer other comments, aren't SX and MX 2 different championships?

The first ones were just fair questions so now just 3 to bring myself at the same level:
8. Who are the most afraid to cross the pond, AMA or GP riders?
9. It is normal for a French to be French champ, as much as it is normal for an American to be the US Champ', so who is your last World Champ, Donny Schmitt or JMB?
10. Ok you win the MxDn, still do you know that for instance Belgium, who is as big as Washington DC beat U as often?

I mean, you are fishing, but no need to do the "MEriccaaN" because I am sure you will fish some "U-ROOOPPEEANNNS", I mean is it that complicated to have a fair opinion and why can't U respect both series & riders ?

Tomac not winning would be a devastating blow for many by the looks of it
Baggett was in virtually this same position last 2 years Wink

The Roczen at Unadilla is far from the Roczen we seen at the beginning of the season. I believe that crash at Millville knocked him down a notch. And the same with Musquin......

I think Tomac is in Roczens head now. RV is doing the same to RD & JS! I cant see sending JB over JS just b/c he has more points. Unless JS is hurt.

That Teutschenthal track looks like a damn freeway from the videos I have watched. I wonder if we even have gearing that high here in the states.

what will the americans excuses be this year when herlings smokes them all again? track too hardpack? track too wet? riding for the team?

de dycker goes very well at teuschental too- and roczen always rides well at the nations (and he will be infront of his home fans) - wouldn't count them out for winning the individual honours

last year before the event the americans were saying things like 'dungey and Barcia grew up riding in the sand' then afterwards the excuses come out!!! Hopefully tomac will get on better than Baggett has done the last 2 years!!

I like the old adage "walk softly, carry a big stick" vs the HEY LOOK HOW GREAT E.T. COULD BE. If something goes wrong ( we are not immune to it) and we lose then I can't come to get my vitalmx fix everyday for a couple weeks because the EURO's will be chest thumping SINCE some of our countrymen are on here chest thumping BEFORE the race. I'm not taking a dig at you level headed euro's. I'm talking about the idiots (yes we have them also) that are always on here fishing.

I think Tomac can do what you say but I'm equally afraid that JH could do the same!

Tomac is at the top of his game, he will give anyone a race for their money, most of his lap times were better than RV yesterday.

But the MXdN has rattled more than a couple riders. The fanfare, international spotlight, team pressure.....but ET has built his career on a strong work ethic and a steady pace. USA will be again the team to beat.
8/11/2013 10:45am Edited Date/Time 8/11/2013 10:59am
Tomac is mostly the better rider than Roczen in the Nationals, on the National tracks. But that doesn't mean he'd beat KR or JH in the GPs, on the GP tracks. Winning on one side of the pond does not automatically mean you'd win on the other. I think fans who follow both series equally understand that a little more. I'd pick JH and KR over ET almost any day in Europe, and just the opposite in the U.S.

To further illustrate the above point I thought these direct quotes all from Eli Tomac and all from 2012 were interesting -

“Well, experience is always key. You know I’ve been doing this a little while now, this is my third year outdoors, and every year you learn the tracks more and you learn the bikes more.”

“For me, this being my third season, I think it's helped my qualifying, at least compared to newer guys like Ken [Roczen] and Marvin [Musquin], I know the tracks pretty well.”

“It just takes time to be able to build up the endurance and get the tracks down and everything.”[/i]

In other words getting the tracks down after nearly 3 yrs of racing made a huge difference to him last year.

Really? How do you account for the fact that the U.S. has won only 3 times on home soil and the rest on foreign tracks that they had never seen, let alone ridden on, with the crowd against them?

Tomac will beat Cairoli. Because we're due for Cairoli's bike to break this year after such a good des Nations last year. All in all, this is a stupid thread. This is Tomac's first des Nations, we've never seen him race on a GP course, or race against AC or JH. Let's just see how it plays out and enjoy a great MXdN!
