Kenny is 19 years old. How many of you at his age were taking life as seriously as you want him to. He has always said that he enjoys what he is doing for a living so why not enjoy it while he can and money and championships are just an extra bonus

hes not a normal 19 year old

hes a professional athlete

if he wants to fuck off and enjoy life he should quit racing and have a normal life and punch a clock 9-5 like the rest of us

I agree with Doc a tad. He is a world champion and a professional.... however, KROC takes his training very seriously. You don't think Tomac has fun outside of MX? Come on....

KROC is vocal about his life.... you do not win races at this level, with this field, without training. Tomac has shifted to another gear.

Lets not forget Hangtown where KROC caught Tomac and left him.

Can we talk about how he blew it by not nutting up and trying to get some points after his crash at Millville yet?

And how he nearly lost the SX title with a similar performance in that heat race?

Seems Kenny can get more than a little deflated when things don't go his way.

Hmmm like Tomac who crashed twice?

Tomac is one of one favorite riders.... had he not knocked himself out and crashed while in first, he would had won the SX title. Coulda, woulda, shoulda......

Didn't say anything about crashing, just the quitting. Crashes happen, quitting can turn into a habit.

I'm sure Roczen was hurting after those wrecks at SLC and Millville - but it not that badly because he rode later on in the day at both of those events, and well.

I'm not a hater, actually a big fan of Ken. But he has quit and pulled out at two critical times this year, and there are multiple accounts that his team was fucking pissed about it as well.

Agreed. He is a world class rider. He has the skill to win championships and is paid to. He has the speed to, I just don't think he has the fitness and it shows. He even said he had arm pump, you can't make excuses for him anymore. He has the speed to beat Tomac and has half of the season. I hope he comes into the 450 SX in top shape because I think he can make a run at the title, or top 3. He lead laps in Daytona on the 350 until he got tired. He even said it then.

Yesterdsy was more to do with Tomac riding better lines than anything else. I noticed at Washougal that their segment times were quite comparable but there was a section where Tomac was shaving about 2/3 secs off Roczen and Kenny didn't appear to have the wherewithal to figure that out. The same could be said for yesterday - that little uphill double after the chicane that Tomac was clearing and Kenny was going inside every lap for example.

The simple fact is, Tomac is just riding better all round. He might have better ftiness, but he also has the confidence, the momentum, a fantastic bike under him and some really good line choices.

Maybe Tomac is out training him etc but in all honesty, when I was KR's age-if I was in his position-I'd be having fun, drinking and screwing everything I could get my hands on-which may explain my astounding success today.Sad Smile
It amazes me the focus and drive of these guys at this age-they are only kids really.

Roger needs to talk with Kenny and send his as to camp RC down in Florida. Too much fun and milkshakes down in Socal. If this indeed a poor showing due to him giving up then that's the 2nd time now and that shit just doesnt fly with Decoster.
It is easy to jump on him, but what would you say for instance to Dungey, Barcia or Stewart ?

Tomac was the equivalent of RV in lites yesterday, and I would be curious to compare all the lap times of the races together.

As I said it before, (As a CP fan I am still mad regarding CP's case, as so far we are all happy to see Dungey, Barcia & Canard), I think Tomac is the best 450 transfer since RV, RC or McGrath, remember his SX lap times this year.

This is confusing to me:

The Great European Hope takes a SX Lites championship but gets smoked outside -- I thought it was supposed to be the other way around.

Let's stop reaching for excuses for the kid when it is so easy to be objective -- he is simply going slower than it takes to win.

I think that it is just like last year, Barcia and KR lead more laps then anyone yet BB would always catch them and gap them. It isn't about anyone riding bad it is someone just "feeling it" and going that much faster then everyone else.

The other 38 riders on the field obviously don't train or take it so seriously either right?

Those of you who watched Unadilla last year would know that Tomac owned the place in the second moto. I have never seen anyone ride like that before. It was no surprise to see him smoke everyone this year.

The problem for Roczen is the upcoming Supercross nationals in Utah and Lake Elsinore. If Kenny can´t beat Tomac on GP-esque tracks, he certainly can´t beat him on flat outdoor supercross tracks. And yes, I don´t care if he is the 250SX champ.

I have no opinion or knowledge of how hard Roczen works. But it is worth to taking a look at his instagram account.

I personally do think that Eli is a bit fitter than Ken, and I also don't think anyone can be blamed for thinking that when (and I say this as a KR fan) Ken himself has been very open about the way he likes to do things. That's fine and that's great, and I think it's refreshing to hear the truth from the stars of our sport. But the flip side of course is that people are naturally going to jump to conclusions or at least raise an eyebrow when the same rider fades or looks to be struggling, even just a little. You can't blame them for that. I guess we can't have it both ways.

Regardless, I think yesterday was vastly more to do with Eli just plain riding better and Ken (perhaps partly due to the situation) riding tight and getting a little arm pump. We all know how debilitating that is. To me he looked sub par the whole race, at no point did he look to be flowing. And yes I also agree that some of his line choices looked poor in comparison. Perhaps "earlier in the year" Ken would've done a better job, or if he wasn't in such a points hole going in. But all in all you have to take your hat off to the way ET is riding. He's just too good right now for KR and he's created this situation through his shear speed.

Still a quality yr regardless for both riders of course.

I agree with that being the case in the second moto, but that does not explain the first moto? It wsn't just Tomac who went around him like he was in reverse. BB and ZO ran him down from way back. Anyone think Roger is happy with his results yesterday and is ok with Kenny's way?

Sooo,2nd only to Tomac, who's now going way faster than anyone right now, putting up pace to run right upfront in the 450 class with Villopoto

Roczen's laptime ended up faster than Dungey, those times would've been good for 4th in the 450 class

He put up a fight for a while but Tomac's away right now, short memories seem to forget Kenny running him down and smokinig Eli earlier on,smashing into the Millville dirt might have rocked him pretty big,who knows,or it could be than a foreign land isn't going to suit him as well as nearer home?

Maybe he needs Stefan in his corner again, afterall he's made his intentions clear and soon straightened out a lesser experienced kid in Europe to greater effect

Anyone could see there was clearly something wrong there, that big hit at Millville was pretty brutal,if he'd hardly ridden much since then it points to armpump, just like Zach was complaining of all year in his 1st Motos

read my other post about Roczens 2nd race, clearly the 2nd best out there to Tomac, who's hit an extroadanary level right now-possibly pushing RV

Well, definitely wasn't the same Ken Roczen we've seen all year. But I guess a nice points lead, to a crash, losing the points lead and also losing his dog earlier this week, is a big hit to him.

I just hope, that if he loses the title he stays down one more year. Normally riders move up too slowly, but Roczen's young and pretty much has the title locked up next year - if he can re-gain the motivation he had at the start of the year.

it seems like hes mentally not as strong as tomac and has a harder time bouncing back from the bad days. great kid though and you could see yesterday in his interview he was struggling with words to say

Watch the replay of Kenny's crash at Millville again, he grabs and holds his head not his chest when he sits up. When you knock the wind out of yourself, you grab at your chest and struggle to get your lungs to inflate. When you ring your bell and get a concussion you grab your head and try to figure out where you are and what the F just happened.

I think he was told to say he knocked the wind out of himself in the pit interview so they couldn't hold him out of the second moto because of a concussion, just sayin'... Now excuse me while I polish my tin foil hat!

Must have been arm pump like he said in the interview. But as I mentioned in the race thread at the time, Osborne has caught and passed Roczen two or three times this season, whereas I can't remember Osborne EVER passing Roczen in the GP's! I could be wrong but it certainly wasn't a regular occurrance, so has Zach improved or has Kenny gone backwards slightly? A bit of both perhaps.

Just wanted to re-up this thread since the Kenny late season fade just seems to be getting worse. I hear that Kenny is struggling with bike settings but from the outside lookin in as a fan, he seems soft and when the going gets tough he doesn't seem to step it up like some of the other riders. When things are going well he definitely brings it. Things aren't going to get any easier for him on the 450. Roger needs to talk Kenny into riding the 250 again next year as it is his only shot at winning a championship. Once he moves up to the 450, he will be a top 5 guy on a good day but never really a title threat.
