A lot of hard work but worth it.

Stripped, blasted, smoothed and then blue the welds.

Nice job! The steel looks perfect, not over polished which is easy to do.

I thought you would have picked this up for that '93: 281125069628

Can you give us a short review of the process? Especially how you polished the metal and blued the welded areas.

1. Take pipe to plating company that does chrome and chrome repair. They can strip the pipe. However, only about 80% will come off.

2. Blast with glass bead

3. Use angle head die grinder with scotch pad to help smooth it out.

4. Wet sand thoroughly with 600, then 1000.

5. clean and dry pipe.

6. Scrub pipe with grey scotch pad thoroughly

6. Use a small torch to blue the welds. Be careful on flame size and keep an equal distance or the bluing will become very uneven.

7. Oil the pipe very well to prevent rust or corrosion.

It is a lot of work but worth it.

This is a very good option to use when a "works" pipe is no longer available.

I do this process for a lot of people when they are restoring bikes.

This is another pipe I recently had to restore. It is a true works pipe for a SR250.

First pic was right after the last stage of cleaning.
Second pic is after bluing the welds and oiling the pipe.

This pipe was a pain due the welds being so close together. I had to use very small flame. It took nearly 2hrs to blue the welds.

It was fairly corroded and fairly rusted.

How are you at restoring pipes that are on the edge of being considered "destroyed"? Laughing

I have a 83 SR500 pipe that will be in need of some serious repair. Dents, dings, couple of kinks, some rust and some aerosol silver as a final rust deterrent are a few of the issues it suffers from currently.

I'm not too bad with dents if 718 doesn't want to do it. Only thing is if the pipe is out of shape, you may need to tweak a bit mounting it.

This is the pipe I did for my 94, vintage 94 PC Works pipe. I removed the label to repair one dent, popped out a few other dents, cleaned and added the bluing. I probably could have spent another 15 minutes smoothing it out but it was used.
