I was checking to see if any of you have tried bolting up an 83 RM 250 flywheel (they are heavier than the 82) into the 82 motor? I hear that a heavier flywheel will add a bit of low end grunt to the bike and make it a bit more manageable. I'm not sure if in fact they DO simply bolt up and IF I swapped them out I would have any issues with anything I'm not considering...

THANKS

They should fit no problem, I don't recall them advertising the 83 with more mass on
the internal rotor though....but the crankshaft flywheels (each side of the crank) were
said to be heavier. I used an R&D modded 83 head when I had an 83 and think you
would like the R&D head better, it was less sensitive to detonation than the 82 head
when I ran it on my bike-the head mod definately helps low end....that is if Dean still offers it,
I'm sure Rudy has retired by now. A stock 83 head on the 82 would not compliment it imo
on what you are looking for.

Thanks for the reply. My goal is simply to add a bit of flywheel weight to the 82 motor. Anybody know of a quick swap? Maybe thePE motor or flywheel off the 465? I iimagine I can have my current one modded with weight added. Anyone know a shop that wlds weights on? I checked with a few companys that well bolt on weight but they do not offer them for the 82. Again thanks for the help.

I think your best bet is to add weight to your internal rotor by making a custom
one that bolts onto the outer face of it, stepped down thinner where the nut
torques the rotor down and use the preexisting small tapped holes in the rotor
to make it more rigid.

Once the weight is machined many waterjet or laser cutting places can use a
new oem stator cover gasket as a pattern and cut a thick spacer from many
choices of standard thickness aluminumto give it clearance under the stator cover.

If you dont have a machinist in mind I could manage it in the off season but
not right now......

Check your Reeds first to make sure they are not bent. Rode mine for awhile this way and made the bike very hard to ride.

To save money you can flip the reeds around on the block.

I put Boyseen pro reeds on my 82 and made a world of difference in managing the power. Bike traction was great too.

Money well spent.
