do i get a bill of sale if their is no title?

i found a nice dirtbike for sale and its just a ttr-125, just a bike to screw around with and idk if the lady has a title for it, i have not asked yet but if their is no title do i just get a bill of sale from her with me and her signing it with the date and amount sold for?

Each state is different, but if they don't have the title I would definately check it out some more. In Utah you can call the cops before you buy the bike and have them come over and run the vin, that way you know it's not stolen and its legit. If you buy a stolen bike, you are then the responsible party and you don't want that head ache.

That's going to be different for every state, my state, SC is not a titling state so a bill of sale is fine for me since it doesn't have to be registered... However I think FL may be so you need to check DMV websites.

im here in florida and we never get titles for r bikes and i never had a title for one of my bikes b4. ive got some friends that ride atvs and they got titles, but my friends that ride dirtbikes dont got titles. but i will check into this vin number make sure it all OK and not stolen

If you want to ride any State parks in Florida, you will need a title to obtain a sticker for your bike. They started several years ago to try and keep the bike thefts down figuring most people who bought used bikes would ride them at the parks.

Always get a bill of sale with the sellers info, name address, phone number and even a drivers license number if possible. That way you are sure of who you purchased it from should one day someone claims its their bike, you have a credible person to send the cops to. "Joe" with no last name = you going down for the crime!

Someone selling a bike legit will be ok with giving up their DL number, a thief wont!

I never put the purchase price on a bill of sale. If I get a smoking deal and later want to sell the bike, a purchaser does not need to know my margin.

no, they started the off road tile scam in florida to make you register used bikes so they could get sales tax on used dirt bikes.

The ttr 125 is fun, I had the BBR springs and cradle and just rode it on my little pitbike track at the house in my private neighborhood with no complaints for years. I sold it to a friend that was looking for a second bike for his brother to learn on while I was recovering from a broken hip. I really regret that but I just lucked into a 2001 xr100 from a guy that had it in storage for a half a dozen years for $200. The guy saw me welding my shock bracket in a different location on my 50 and mentioned his xr in storage. I got a call days later asking if I wanted it for $200 but he said it won't run. The guy was riding it in his yard when I showed up. It was missing most plastics, brakes and a lot more but sounded pretty good and I gave him $250 with title. I basically have been restoring it and have ordered everything for it. I plan on putting the cr 80 suspension later in the year but have the BBR springs coming for now. Pretty fun restore.
