So what did Darius's handicap have to do with this issue? His entry was recognized for one class, and unless there was some grand conspiracy to limit him to one class, all he has to do is pay an additional ten bucks.

There was no need to whip out the injury card.

Darius is an alternate in one class -- the one class he signed up for -- but he did not sign up in the second class (450 C) where he finished I believe 25th out of 31 at the area (they take the top 8 directly), and would be a very long shot to get into the Regional as an alternate. He is allowed to post-enter, which costs $10 more to enter, and hopefully he will get in. But this is a packed region and his power ranking is fairly low based on the one Area he rode in this class.

I hope he makes it, no one has "struck again," but there are rules and regulations that go into these events, and when one doesn't appear to have signed up there's little the officials can do but ask him to post-enter.

Yet another example of hundreds of why we are so damned fortunate to have a head honcho who actually listens, invests his personal time to look into something like this and gives a crap

Thank you Davey!

That rider actually worked for me Jay. He and his family have grown up around a few of my very best friends. Like I said....you have no idea what you are talking about. And about that incident , I said something I shouldn't have , but took the heat for something i did not do. I was trying to stick up for a rider which I thought got treated the wrong way. "If" you knew the story you wouldn't even be bringing it up. Have a nice day pork chop.

As much as I admire his heart and determination, He shouldn't be out there... If you can't pick your bike up unassisted in the pit area then you sure as hell shouldn't be out on a track during a race situation.
Well that would eliminate quite a bit of 50, 60, and 85 riders lol
50,65 & 85 riders can be DQ'd if they receive outside assistance at a national race. Local usually doesnt enforce but big races do. So this guy should get a pass? Not fishing, honest question....

I've raced against him a few times and never felt that he was a liability on the track. The apparatus that holds him on the bike is nothing like what Doug Henry has. If you weren't looking for it, you wouldn't notice it. If he can race in local AMA sanctioned races, then he should be able to attempt to qualify for LL's. Different issue than the OP though.

Darius raced 450C. I don't know all the details but he showed up a little late saturday and they gave him a couple laps of practice about 6 or 7 motos into the day. His first moto he got a good start and crashed really hard on the table top coming out of the gator pit. Yes he was launching it, he did it in practice perfectly. It was a pretty scary crash, though I didn't see the landing as I was in the roller turn and couldn't see past the jump. I was amazed when he was out there in the LCQ.

The kid has heart, no doubt.

Hmmm, I watched him up in Turlock run mid pack until he tipped over in a corner. No cart wheeling as you say, you or ur kid must of been handled by this " danger" Meh.

Also if they don't let him ride at the national again I think it's pretty shitty that they have no problem taking his money at the area and regionals.

Also after watching him he is no more a hazard than a beginner trying to qualify in the novice class.
Again, I admire the kid but I have personally seen him flip his bike end over end at least 5 times. Even when he tips over...
Again, I admire the kid but I have personally seen him flip his bike end over end at least 5 times. Even when he tips over as you say he did in Turlock, he has to lay there till someone runs across the track, in the middle of a race, and picks him up.

Also, they take the top 8 at the area qualifier to the regional. He finished 23rd and 21st in his area qualifier and these finishes do not guarantee him a spot at the regional. They have 61 pre entries for both of his classes listed on the MX Sports website, they can only take a max of 64.

Finally, you say it would be shitty of them to let him ride the regionals and areas and not let him ride the national AGAIN. I'm pretty sure he has not been close to qualifying for the national.
I have so much respect for this kid. If you go to his Facebook page, there is not a single photo of him where he has not a big smile on his face. There are numerous videos of him like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJJKyDt9ArM and each one of them are inspiring. I read about the kid, his determination to race like any other “normal” racers out there, and I always believed that he deserved his chance. I thought that people (AMA, MX sport …) who tried to prevent this to happen were in the wrong (for whatever their reasons were) … this … until I saw him race this week-end at Budds Creek in the first 450 C moto with 39 other racers. He came into the rollers after the start, and you could see that he has very little control of his body at speed, his head shaking all over … very sketchy to say the least. I said to myself: “no way that he’ll complete one lap at this speed on such a rough track”. A few seconds later, he came to the Finish Line table top, pinned (nose wheelie), came up short, and crashed his head off like a rag doll. Lucky not to be hurt, and not to have hurt someone else. The kid has a big heart for sure, but he has no business of racing those events. This is not discrimination, just common sense. He has so much heart that he tries to keep up with very fast other racers (C riders at a Regional are fast!), but he just can’t, and as a result he becomes a danger for himself and the other guys on the track. Let him ride and race but like others said (smeg, slipdog), he should just race the events for adaptive athletes, nothing wrong with that. So, Darius please go challenge the 2013 “Para class” champion Doug Henry next year. I will be cheering on both of you, because both of you are inspirational.

Admire the crap out of the kid, but he does scare me when I have watched him race.
