Agreed he is already one of the all-times and if he wins this year I would have zero problems ranking him ahead of MC. Not that I think MC is second best though, IMO after this year I would rate him 4th if he wins the mx title, knocking on wood as i write this.

Can I interrupt your pissing match to ask is anyone has the video of the 2 times JS7 got passed in moto 2 that the TV missed?

It was at the18:18 mark when they did a flashback to when RD1 went wide and we heard the crowd cheering like crazy.

And when RD1 passed JS7 at the 17:17 mark when TV did another flashback of the pass they missed during the other flashback which only showed a tree in freeze frame?

they rejoing the live action at 17:00 and now JS is in 3rd, missing the two best passes in the race, amazingly unlucky for the broadcast crew.

I know it's unusual for this place but I'm being sincere and not dissing on any of the racers whatsoever.

The race after those 2 passes was pretty uneventful.

They show Villopoto's pass at the end on the highlights, or at least they did on TV. He just quadded to the inside and made the pass on Stewart who was tripling outside. Dungey's pass on Stewart is MIA.

I love how they show Villopoto's entire first moto instead of the second moto on the GoPro. I also love how they can't at least do split screens if they're showing a replay.

Thanks TDeath21, I just got to the podium interviews and caught the replay where he passed on that right-hander after the jump.

I'm glad I added a half hour to the recording since it started late and hence ran late.

Dungey doesn't seem like one to allow anyone to play mental games with him-at least since he's been on the 450's-so if you ask me, he probably realized that RV was a bit faster than him on the day, and that he was faster than Stewart and backed off and let RV have the win by a mile and not risk losing the title in the first round trying to run down RV.

Dungey has always been a "be on the podium every week" and "take what you can get...don't force the issue" kind of racer (just as Decoster trained him to be)...so, round one, I could totally see Dungey backing off a hair, settling for 2nd, and staying in the championship. (pure speculation of course)

Who knows, maybe he's the one playing mind games? Maybe he just gave Villopoto a false sense of security...and at round two, he'll pounce? Who knows!

Thunder Valley is hard to pass at track. Could be some good racing.

RV rides with an aggression that I haven't seen since RC. Stewart hasn't had that level of tenacity since he left Kawi. The 450s, IMO, have made a lot of guys lazy. With the added power they don't attack the track, mainly the corners, like RV does.

#2 won't 24-0 these guys, but if they don't step it up, it's going to get ugly and quick! RV's confidence is sky high.

I would say bubba lost it when he got hurt again in 2010sx, he was still the king in 2009SX and let Reed get an outdoor tilte, he is a dumb ass for that one.

I seem to remember RV getting worked outdoors by Dunge and Reedy not too long ago...It was one race, chill the fuck out.

Capt'n, let me ask this.... IF James, RD or Chad just 3 'peated SX titles.... came off a SX season with only 3 off races, 4 second place finishes and TEN WINS... then came out and "straight UP" dominated BOTH moto's convincingly @ Race 1 Hangtown...

Who the fuck needs to chill out about that?!

Lets see here . Stewart wins the first two rounds last year, then gets hurt . Dungey takes over and goes on a ten race win streak winning the title . RV in his first race back outdoors smokes both those guys by 20 and 40 seconds both moto's and some people call it a fluke .

Steve Matthes :" If Hangtown was a crowded bar , Villopoto walks in , grabs the hottest check there , shotguns a beer and walks out with her in the span of about two minutes . It was something indeed . "

Roger Decoster : " It sure wasn't hard to pass for Ryan Villopoto, was it ? "

His riding reminds me of kiedrowski in 93. He was jumping farther, carrying more speed into corners, and riding with more confidence. The only problem was, so was his teammate mike larocco. His confidence waned after that outdoor season and larocco won it the next year. Point is that if someone would at least start racing rv he would start to wane in his confidence and possibly make some mistakes. But let's be realistic, it ain't gonna happen. He's gonna dominate for the next two years. By then I think the sport will start having problems economically.

Of course he's got the confidence now... maybe an injury would hurt it. But RV's problem hasn't seemed to confidence.Smile

I don't think "racing him" will cause his confidence to drop. So far in his career he's had to work for everyone of his championships. He has yet to stroll through any of 'em in an RC or JS7 fashion.

That one year with Townley he just pulled over and let him by, and Townley gapped him pretty bad. Did it phase him, NOPE. Next moto he just got back after it and won. Did it mess with him when James won Atlanta, again NOPE! And Dungey himself has out ran him on numerous occassions... still he manages to win the title.

I used the word yet earlier... maybe this is the year and series we'll see that! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to early to tell...

I agree with Matthes' quote here that RV was "that guy" on Saturday. He controlled every second of both motos and was even in complete control of moto two while running third. It was the best 450 National ride of his career. The only one I can compare it to was his first-ever 450 National at Glen Helen.

What amazes me is how many people think the Championships over already. I'm even more amazed that 9% of the people in this poll think RV will go undefeated. While I don't think it's impossible, I think the possibility is closer to one out of 1000, not 9 out out 100. There's no way anyone is pitching a shutout vs this caliber of competition, and if he did it would go down as the greatest Championship ride in history.

RV won the race, let's give him the Championship. 5 years with 5 wins, doesn't seem that impressive now does it.
Can't wait for the season too unfold, he looks nervous to me.

It's okay NOT to be a fan, but puuuuhhhlease... try not to be a vitarded! You sound like those anti-James fans who call him an underachiever. RV is not your guy, we get it.

Wow, I guess they gave RD the number 1 plate as a consolation prize? Your logic is a throwback to the bubba fans "he would have won if he hadn't crashed" mentality. They line up every weekend because it is a series, a long one at that and unless you have the most points at the end of the season you are not the champion. RV may hand out his share of thrashings to all the competition but RD locks down consistency which equals championships, and until they change the rules.....the guy that wins the championship is the champion.

You can't be serious when you say he looks nervous. Did he look nervous when he blew past his two main competitors in both motos and checked out? He hasn't raced outdoors in a year and a half and he just came out and dominated. It's scary to think that he was still knocking off the rust at Hangtown. Let's not forget this is a track neither Dungey or Villopoto do very good at, so that's even scarier. 8 overall wins this season is what I think. At least.

Dungey is destined to be a second place guy. He can make quick work of James for second, but not for the lead. WTF? Villopoto just blew past them both and checked out. Until Dungey gets the killer instinct to pass guys he's faster than quickly, he will continue to rack up 2nd place finishes. Even when he does that, he still has a lot of work to do to get up to Villopoto's level.

It isn't just about how fast you are (remember all the hype about bubba?). I know RV is almost the total package but as Husqerdo pointed out, his consistency is lacking. Don't get me wrong, I like RV, but if you don't lock down the points you don't win championships. RD has done just that, locked it down with consistency and while he could stand to be more agressive I do think he is more so than a few years ago. One things for sure, there will be alot of racing to come and I think it will get pretty interesting from here on out.

Let me guess, you picked Dungey to win 10 sx races this year against Stewart, RV, Reed, Millsaps, etc.

Nope, and I didn't pick RV to do it either, but he did. Show some respect and get over yourself. Looks nervous.. Dumbest thing I've read this week. I assume you'll say something even dumber the next time this happens. Cheers

His consistency is hardly lacking. He's a very consistent MX rider. He's never finished off the podium on a 450 besides that race he tried to ride in 2009 with a shredded knee, an injury that had supposedly been bothering him his whole pro career and it finally gave out. Knock on wood, but all of his major injuries and big crashes are from SX. Unfortunately for him, those also caused him to miss MX. As far as MX goes though, he's been very fast and very consistent and injury free. Taking all that into consideration, Dungey needs to step it up. I have no doubt he's capable of it, but to do so he'll have to push a little over his comfort zone, make quicker passes, and be more aggressive, which are things he rarely does.

Dungey is not any faster than he was in 2010 . RV can miss an entire season , come back stronger , faster and with the same confidence he has always had since turning pro .
