Mornin',

Recently just had my radiator back from repair to which the repairer has said that it was caused by electrolysis which can possibly come from shitty coolant. Now that i have the radiator back i'll do some testing with a multimeter tonight to see if it's a grounding issue from another component, but i thought i'd ask the question here: I use Engine Ice, and it was probably about 12 months old when the hole happened, has anyone else had electrolysis with engine ice? Or can someone recommend a different coolant? I'm really not keen on this happening again.

Engine ice is legit. Never seen or had a problem with it.

Does the place that repaired it commonly fix MX rads? Most leaks I've seen are from crash damage. Some are caused by other parts rubbing together; I've seen a pinhole made from a plastic radiator shroud rubbing against the radiator over time.

i have engine ice in bikes that has been in there well over a year with no problems. they aren't bikes ridden extremely often though. but every bike in the garage has engine ice never had a single problem. have seen cables and plastics rub pin holes in rads. before.

Also no problems with engine ice, is there any
magnesium in the cooling system like the pump
cover? None of the bikes I've used it in have had
mag in them but I know its seems picky about certain
coolants and mag may like different PH values
than the normal all aluminum engine......not sure
just know mag can cause electrolysis issues.

Not that i know of, it's pretty stock.

Were diagnosing tonight to see if there is any stray current in the coolant. The speedo has been acting weird lately, flashing on and off, so i'm wondering if the electronics are on the fritz or not earthing properly, time will tell.

It wasn't your coolant.

Your right, after testing last night it turns out it was a connector on the horn, when zip-tied together, was reading at about .9volts, but when the horn connectors were kept apart, it would drop below .3 volts. plenty of electrical tape over the horn connectors, keeping them apart, problem solved (i hope)

I would check all of your grounds too.
