What would have made this even more interesting is if it was Dungey's mechanic who was shown taking dirt or rocks or whatever from in front of the gate, Dungey holeshots, wins the race, and RV does not clinch the championship for Monster Energy Kawasaki that night. I wonder if it would have been a bigger issue than it is now.

Maybe Williamson was actually filling in scuffs and scratches with the dirt he picked up? It looked like he did a lot more then just move "said" rock that he got permission to remove. But maybe they are allowed to modify/repair/enhance traction to the gate itself?

Either way, RV deserved the win and ultimately the championship.

Unless it's written somewhere in the rules that we can't see in the first post of this thread, no where does it say you can groom at the discretion of an AMA official. The rule says "No grooming".
A rule was broken, and once again the AMA does jack shit about it, because it involved the points leader. It also determined the outcome of the championship.
Now don't anyone start on me about the RV hater bullshit, because the man proved he's a fuckin stud, and I fully acknowledge that . He earned that championship from a huge deficit, giving him his third in a row. Impressive. The fact still stands that it should have gone to Vegas for the outcome.

Congratulations Uncle

No disrespect to Ryan but his Mechanic clearly broke a rule and once again nothing was done about it.

it was a great race and a great series, Ryan deserves the #1 plate. Just not last Saturday.

That was hilarious. I remember when that happened thinking I'd be doing the exact same thing if I were Barcia.

If Williamson does it without permission from an official--rule broken.

If he asks permission but is told no and does it anyway--rule broken.

If he asks permission and receives it and does it--no rule broken.

Seems reasonable.

A blatant breaking of the rules doesn't need a protest, it needs officials with their heads on straight.

Regardless...if, according to the RacerX article, they asked an official if they could remove it, then on defense of RV, at least they asked, and received permission by an official, who apparently doesn't know the rules.

It doesn't matter what the end result was, and/or if RV was going to win the race and/or Championship anyway....it's the point of enforcing rules that are written.

The guys in Formula 1 do similar stuff. They get away with a lot.
Kimi said to a friend of mine's cousin's sister once they'd do lots of tricky stuff to get past tech.
Snowmobile racing too. Those guys are way gnarlier than mx'ers too.
And Gwen Stefani.

I'm saying who did he ask and removing a rock doesn't include what ever he did in front of the gate and to the sign that is clearly in front of the gate.

Rules were broken here, Nobody did anything about it.
Not sure exactly who he asked, but my guess would be "tool time" you can see him in the screen shot many times in the various races moving the mech's out of the area before the start of each heat/main. That's one of his jobs with the AMA in controlling the start line.

How many gifts did the Monstet Energy sponsored Monster Energy Supercross Champion get this year? Passing on cross flags multiple times, flying past safe places to enter as to not lose any positions, messing infront of his starting gate which is not allowed.... I'm sure I'm missing one or two.

How long before people start to say it's rigged like the monster truck show?

I just don't see how you can blatantly break the rules again, and again, and again and the AMA does nothing.
Every mechanic knows not to do ANYTHING infront of the gate.

I've been down there plenty, and have often heard mechanics ask AMA officials if they can move something for them. That's the first time I've seen a mechanic reach out in front the gate themselves. But I also heard the same story, that he'd checked in advance before doing it.

Generally you'll see mechanics wipe down the plastic with a rag. By that time of the night you've had at least seven gate drops. It's not like they change up the plastic before every race.

As for the guys who are being smartasses, that often comes across as dumbass material.

He asked an AMA official and they let him remove it on his own. I've done it plenty of times as well down there. Everyone calm down.

Maybe they should look before they pick their gates.

After the gate, it's all part of the track and shouldn't ever be touched by riders/mechanics/officials.

That rock may have put some poor kid in the stands eye out, or even worse, popped one of the Monster gals implants. I give permission in order to prevent either scenario.

It clearly states in the rules that riders and team members are forbidden to groom in front of the starting gate. If an AMA official was asked then that official should have cleared the said object. The penalty is one lap but I guess no one protested it.

I thought this was an AMA rule. So can all AMA rules be considered null and void until protested?

I guess that includes taking the dirt and rock and scuffing up the plate on the gate too ?

Asking permission to break the rules and being granted that permission is a whole other subject.

If you took the experience of all the relevant moto mechanics and mgrs on the floor, you'd have enough to write a freaking novel. It's kinda funny how NONE of those people have even addressed this and even more funny that the people that have brought it up are all sideline reporters, armchair QB's and back seat drivers. As scrutinized as NASCAR is, do you see any arm chair QB's calling in and reporting on infractions like this? I didn't think so. Nothing to see here folks, everyone move along, nothing to see here.

I bet if you gave all those Geniuses on the Floor a rule book test maybe 20% would get a passing Grade.

Hang on mate.

Who allowed him to break the rule? RV, himself or the official?

In Real Sports if you break a rule there is normally a penalty, doesn't necessarily mean you are cheating.

if Tony Alessi did what RV's Mechanic did this place would melt down.

True in real sports you break the rules there is normally a penalty.

In the AMA you can break the rules as long as no one files a protest.

Do they even check for big bore cheater bikes in teck or would a third of the starting gate be empty?
