It's pretty sad to see this happen, but it doesn't surprise me. For anyone who's ever raced one of these Electric 1/8 scale Buggies, they are extremely fast, they can be geared to hit 100 mph and they're also heavy, I think my Ofna Hyper 9e weighs around 6 or 7 pounds. At the local indoor Track, these cars get away from people all the time, crashing into Walls, flying into people off Jumps, it get's crazy and then when it's open practice, you have all different types of cars out there. 1/8th scale Buggies are Heavy duty and tough and when you are driving, your Eyes are focused on your Car and it's easy to not see a Car that's sitting idle on the track 30' ahead of you and if it's say a 1/10th scale Buggy, you'll destroy it and the 1/8 will look as if it wasn't even scratched, some of these guys have a lot of money invested and they get pissed when you obliterate their car, but that's the chance you take out there, it gets pretty wild. Anyways! I know how freaked out these RC drivers can get, so it doesn't surprise me to hear this, I've seen it in person.

From the sounds of it.....the guy was causing a fight with the announcer dude for some reason and Steve tried to intervene ( to possibly diffuse the situation ) ...then the guy sucker punched Steve with something wrapped up in a towel. I'd like to know the final out come of this honestly.

I beat the SOB to within an inch of his life as he was screaming for someone to call 911.....and he's the one that started it. Told them I was defending myself and the guy used brass knuckles. I even told them where the brass knuckles were.....up on the roof of the bar because I saw him throw them up there. They called the fire station....they went up with ladders....found the brass knuckles and ran a DNA test on the blood....it was mine. The cops asked if I wanted to press charges....I said "NO.....I'll deal with the fucker myself". Cops said " It doesn't matter....he assaulted you with a deadly weapon....he's going to jail". He went to jail for 4 months , lost his job and everything. The shot he got off on me was the only one he landed.....and it ruined his whole night because it didn't do shit to me. I've never beat up anyone that bad before......and he got it good! Stupid bastard.

Been there jeffro, good for you, looking at Guyb's pic the guy either had something in his hand or Guyb was on the ground, not taking sides here by any means, but best be ready for anything if words are exchanged. As far as filing a complaint, no comment till the details are out.

Actually there is that other option of pressing charges. People slip on 2x4s everyday, you could just call it even after that.

For a while, there were tons of riders and mechanics at the track. I've met guys from Honda, Suzuki, DVS, and FMF at the races. Before he got hurt, I'd see Frank Hoppen at the races with his kids pretty often. I've also seen Chris Blais at the races a couple times.

It's really fun when it's fun...but last week wasn't much fun. This is something that I purely do for entertainment.
What track were you at? Nitro/electric, indoor/outdoor? I drive RC and have several friends in the industry, I share a warehouse with my friend that owns Dialedinc.com. We all drive AE and he is pretty connected in RC, if you need anything, let me know. Its a small industry and word travels fast, shit like this is unacceptable. Getting banned from a track is a slap on the wrist especially in SoCal where there are plenty of tracks. If the guy that punched you is sponsored in any way, he could lose his ride and his sponsors could be held liable as well, especially if it was an event that his team was scheduled to be at, they have strict contracts that they have to abide by. Call the guy out, RCtech.net is the vital equivalent of RC, also neobuggy and liverc. Put the guy on blast and get him banned from every track and every RC mfg in the country.

a punch in the face and you're saying he deserves to be banned from every single track in the country? not defending the guy, but from what im reading hes getting punished, hes already banned from that track and will probably get a nice fine on top of it. if he doesnt learn then thats another story

A punch in the face or pre meditated assault along with a deadly weapon........mmmm, you tell me the diff. Clearly, its not this guys first dust up and I'd say he hasn't learned from previous situations. Would you want to take your wife and kids to the RC track with this guy?

Who said anything about suing? C'mon, use some common sense. Pressing charges against a specific assailant is far different than suing a track.

Had a similar injury. But involved a missed fly ball in baseball practice. Stitches in the eye brow and blood all over. Freaked out the center fielder when I asked him "How do I look?" in a joking fashion with blood all over my face since there was no pain really. If I had I dollar for every time someone told me "Yo Adrian!" for the next week or so.....

1 year ban is certainly in order. I don't wanna go to a RC track and have that asswipe there when my kid is around.

Punching someone is one thing, but using a weapon (albeit wrapped in a towel) is quite another and shows a certain type of mind set that was used.

Just sayin'...
