BodyB, the cross-up pic is so epic it practically needs no explanation! That single pic alone embodies everything cool about what it was like being a kid having a blast on his dirtbike.

Best pic of the thread Cool

Speaking of the mini tracks at some of the GS's. Do you remember '84 at Hollister? They basically put up banners on the side of a virgin green grass hill. Epic soil that day, i have pics somewhere.
I thought that was Sac's outdoor track! I remember that Hollister race and the fog in the morning, e-street, lake Medera and a few others where they just ran ribbon out in the back areas to make the mini track.

That is rad Travis, Chris and i were full on bros, lived practically down the street from each other, my machine was his personal science project. We worked our asses off developing some of the strongest Pilot motors on the planet at the time. I owe so much to Chris and Mike Daas of Fox Shox for all the support back then! We created an incredible machine man. Its was like turning a XR400 into a Factory Honda lol Taking a machine not intended for true racing is a LOT of work, and mine is truly one of a kind. Im a total perfectionist and every detail down to each nut, bolt and even zip tie had to be PERFECT, and it was. Sad that is has been in storage for so many years, but i will never get rid of it.

btw: You will like this then Cool

sooo sweet!!! I don't blame ya, there are for sure machines I regret getting rid of,....and you never get enough for them anyway to lose them. What is Chris up too these days? do you still talk to him?

Did you grow up in new england/race NESC? This looks to be era I did some NESC racing as well (if so). I blew up a hub on a yz 80 and Parkway Cycle hooked me up good on a new hub/relace.

Check out this classic pic i found of my little bro sitting in my Pilot, it comes with a pretty damn cool story:

I was living down in San Jose and this was the first time my parents brought him down to meet me and my older bro after they adopted him. The tattoo he now has on his back of our last name and the date we adopted him says June - 1994, so this must of been around that same time. Sure turned out to be an awesome bro and i could not be more proud of him.

This is sorta OT in regards to the thread, but adds a little more to the story of my little bro and just how damn proud of him i am! Growing up as a young boy had two lifelong dreams.

#1: Become a Marine. He achieved that almost 2 years ago now, and was at the top 98% of his unit, received honors (medals or whatever they are called) as and expert rifleman, and a real standout as all the higher ranking officers had nothing but awesome stuff to say about how he preformed.

#2 was to become a police officer. (and that is his most recent achievement and now works for the Redding Sheriffs Dept.)

So trip on this: sitting at the kitchen table this morning talking w/ my pop as he had breakfast while reading the local paper we come across this picture on the front page of the "Local" section. (that is him i outlined)

I guess the story was they made an arrest or whatever it is they do, and he said there were news reporters taking pictures so he stood to the side trying to avoid being in the pic...HA! but they still caught him! Cool

Anyway, to say i am proud would be an understatement, and to think he came from a broken home, mother was a crack head and was taken from him and he lived in one of this camps where children wait / hope to someday be adopted. Well he was in and out of 4 to 5 foster homes by the age of 3 because no one could devote 100% of the time and attention he required and so desperately craved and needed.

I can not put into words the gift that my parents gave hin, he literally had very little chance of becoming a productive part of society, and look at him now!

Sorry from rambling on, and i prob should copy this out and make a new thread in non-moto for it. I am just so stoked and amazed at how far he has come that i had to share.

Great story. My wife is a teacher and two things she has done over the years is create an annual dinner for local vets and her students serve them dinner, sing, and read letters of thanks to them. She also had 2adopted children in her class. One was doing great with his new surroundings the other not as well. They all set down and wrote a book about being adopted. They got to present the story at the adoption organization here. Just thought I'd share as your family did two great things , adopt a child and that child, now man gave his country his service. Well done.

The toughest thing I saw at adoption night were the older kids who were there hoping to be adopted someday. The older they were the less you knew their chances would be. Now after all this heavy stuff I need to post a moto pic.

Same idea in New England 1984 I think. Put banners on a ski slope in the berkshires and go racing. Too bad they only had mx one or two years there.

The '81 RM-125 was my favorite bike of all time. Still absolutely amazed at how far advanced that bike was from the '80 version.

More 1981. Lots of Yamahas and Suzukis back then.
