Hey, I'm going to visit some family in Illinois this weekend and was planning to ride Sunday. The 2 closest tracks are these. Was wondering which one is a better choice? I've heard good things about Sunset Ridge but havent heard anything about Ki tracks...Are they both broke up into classes or just open practice setup?? Thanks for any info.

They are both really nice tracks but I think Sunset is better the dirt is a loamy sandy mix so pretty much amazing. The layout is safe and flows very well. The turnout is going to be large this weekend so Iam sure they will have it divided up. KI is a hardpack dirt track but being this early in the season the dirt is going to really good there also. The layout is good an that track flows good as well, as I said for SR the turnout is going to large so Iam sure they will have it broken up into seperate practices. They are both VERY well run facilities. MC Motopark is also open and they have an Amazing track as well. I think any of three will be a win/win situation Smile

Yeah I just checked out some helmet cams of the Mt. Carroll track and it looks pretty sweet too! Hard choice..does Mt. Carroll get as busy?? I just rode a track this past weekend that was broke up into 8 classes and only got to ride once every 2 hours so thats the only reason I'm not looking forward to a busy track! But everyones pumped to ride at the beginning of spring so it's hard to find a track that's not packed. Thanks for the info on the tracks though!

Byron is having a nuclear series race Sunday to and although it's 5 hours south Lincoln Trail is having a qualifier. I would think no matter where you go it won't be just jam packed but if I had to pick just one it would be Mt Carroll. we have only been there a few times for practice and it's never been quite as crowded as Sunset, plus they don't allow quads so that would be one less rotation you would have to sit out if Sunset is allowing them this weekend.

Walnut is always fun and the track is always prepped to perfection just like a race day. Usually Walnut draws over 100 bikes just for practice days. They usually break the bike classes up into A,B,C and then minis and a quad class. Most sessions are 15 minutes so you usually get to ride about once an hour. Walnut typically runs practice until around 4pm so if you get in early you will get all the track time your body can take!

Mt Carroll is a great track. I have been there to race but never a practice day so i'm not sure how they run their show up there.

Sunset in my opinion has the best dirt and probably the best layout. All around great place.

If you just want to twist the throttle with no technical go to Sunset. If you want technical riding go to Ki Track.

I think MT Carroll might be the better choice for more ride time IMO Sunset packs them in which limits your ride time, but again all three are Amazing tracks so........

All are great. Mount Carroll is always groomed perfectly and usually has good turnouts but the best part is that there are no quads to mess up the lines and take up track time. Check out his facebook page to see pics.

Redbud is having their opener this weekend as well so I expect some of that crowd to migrate that direction.

I am a Sunset Ridge fan, the track is always in great condition, the owners and staff are good people, and they cater to the riders. I drive hours past my local tracks to go there when it is open. I also suggest getting there prior to opening, depending on the crowd it might not class out for a bit and if it does it might just be Big Bike/Mini/Quads, (all depends on the crowd). It was packed last weekend, but it was the season opener so that was expected. I will be at Redbud this weekend, so that means 6 less bikes at Sunset. I have yet to ride at KI so I can't offer anything on that. You can't go wrong with the tracks mentioned so enjoy (but I am still saying Sunset...lol)
