We have talked about it quite a bit in various threads, some didnt find it much of a big deal, others (like myself) find it much larger.

Well i was watching Letterman last night and Regis Philbin was on and get this! HE will have a show on the new Fox Sports. Blink Seriously...wtf does that old geezer know about sports? (Dave even asked him that and had a good laugh)

If that is any indication what is in store for this new channel, i think a lot more people will miss Speed when then take over happens than was mentioned in those previous threads.

Hate to say it, but this thread belongs in the Dumbegedon section. What does the old geezer know?...A lot more than you realize. That guy is a legend even though you don't see it that way.

If we lose live coverage at most of the rounds I could see my interest in the series taking a substantial hit.

Oh i have zero argument about him being a "Showbiz Legend" through and through, and one of the hardest working guys, but can you seriously see him doing a "sports" show? Hell Reeg himself was practically laughing about it!

I gotta agree with you Scottie. That dude was born when the wheels were wooden. He has no place speaking one word of MX on TV. Let him blab his lips off about other sports....I don't care. But for Christs sake......if Regis starts off with any MX stuff......I may have to switch sports over to quilt knitting.

HAR! He wont be covering MX Jeff, from what i understand it will be a daily half hour show covering many diff. sports to compete w/ ESPN's "Around The Horn" and "PTI" (Pardon The Interruption) PTI is a good show, Wilborne and Kornheisher do an excellent job, im not so into Outside The lines though, dont really like the format.

...and Reeg is 81! Damn i hope to have 1/100th the energy that dude does when/if i make it that long.

It looks like the channel formally known as Speed will continu to be packed with those synthetic "reality" shows that are on every other channel already.

I expect supercross (they have really been doing a big job promoting it) and MotoGP(already a deal) on the new network. No other 2 wheeled motorsports.

Speed is pretty damn good right now, so I am of the opinion that any change will most likely be for the worst

SX on Speed has been getting great numbers, it will still be around next year whether on the new FoxSports or not we will have to see. There are not a lot of other sports on that time of year.

You now have in addition to the ESPN family, NBC Sports, CBS Sports, Fox Sports 1, 2 and 3(I think). I have no doubt there is an outlet for the SX & MX Broadcast in the coming years.

Haven't been following this at all.
So did Fox buy Speed or did they already own it and are combining the two?
What's to stop someone else from starting up a motorsports only channel?

MAVTV, recently acquired by Lucas Oil, may take over the broadcast of at least the outdoor nationals, and likely more..

Owned it. Not "combining" they are "changing" Speed to "Fox Sports" to compete w/ such channels as NBC Sports Network / ESPN etc etc and it will be a "mainstream" sports network.

For 6+ months now you may have noticed the "Fox Sports" logo in the top right hand corner of the screen on top of the normal Speed logo.

The "official" RIP to SPEED will be in August, so we are good for SX, and the outdoors are live on AlliSports and Fuel/NBCSports if i recall? (its early and i just woke up) It will be curious how/if this affects SX in the future?

"What's to stop someone else from starting up a motorsports only channel?"

Good question, we need a US version of "MotorsTV" asap!
