There can be corrosion that looks real ugly for sure but you can fix that with a careful JBWeld/Epoxy Job. It could be because the magnesium was so weak around the impeller or any shared opening but I doubt it. Also - on the magnesium covers if you can fix them go with Evans Waterless Coolant(google it) and you will not have further corrosion. Good Luck.

P.S. If only i could find an '86 125 to match hmm. '86 Honda team be cool...alright done dreaming lolol

Got may first test ride in today. got some coolant leaking out of the weep hole.
Nothing coming out of the vent tube or overflow.
I think I'm in for a water pump seal. Was supposed to be done when I bought the bike.
Any ideas?

Well, my radiators, which I bought in good looking condition, are completely clogged.
I think what happend was all the pressure build up and crap in the system must have blew out the seal.
Radiators are off the bike,
Can't get the water pump impeller off.

I walked away before I break something.

Going to pull the head off. I'm sure it's full of gunk.

before I throw more money away, which one of those ebay new after market ratiators fit 1986 CR250.
they all claim to fit, but which ones have you guys used?

Mad,sorry to hear about the radiator's.I went through the EXACT same situation and was ready to purchase the chinese rad's off ebay but could'nt get a definate answer on which one's to buy.Donny O Slow-(Mike),suggested muratic acid,1 part acid to 4 part's water.I tried this with very good result's and repeated this process 4 time's on each radiator.If you try it, plug the outlet's and let the rad's stand 20 minute's or so.Oh,be sure to protect yourself as the acid is VERY STRONG.

I took off the water pump impeller and found that the seal was installed backwards.

I ordered those GPI Radiators. going to try them.
I'm done screwing around, I want to ride.

When you remove the impeler, you will see the inside of the seal. Have you tried cleaning your rads with Viakal? If you have it in the US. It's used to remove calcium from you bathroom taps and plug etc. I filled my rads with it for around 10 minutes then drained and flushed them and it cleaned them a treat. One of them (I cleaned 4) leaked around the core but I can't say if it was good before or not.

Mine is coming together slowly. Next issue is fitting new FMF Powercore silencer on Fatty pipe. When I got the bike it was missing silencer and attach hardware so my question is , do I need to order anything that goes from the pipe to the silencer? like a spacer that goes inbetween?

Yes, you can buy an overpriced stock rubber boot, or buy a rubber radiator hose and clamp it on .
You need this or it will drool all over the place.
Check the oem parts list . You can use that's to find what's missing.

You are probably thinking of the mid pipe that goes between the expansion chamber and the silencer. These are no longer available from Honda but appear occasionally on ebay.

Yeah JT I've seen your bike. I had an 86 back in 86 and always wanted it back.
I jjust want you to know that your project was one of the reasons I went out and bought a rebuilder.
So you are somewhat responsible for my financial demise.
Also, I think you should write a letter of apology to my wife and explain how my obsessing is normal for guys having a midlife crisis.
I hope you know I'm kidding.
So having said that, I'm accepting donations of parts and cash so I can finish my bike and ride this thing some time before I get too old.

QUESTION-Being that my 86 is a hybrid,due to the fact it has a 1990 motor,will a 38 Keihin be ok for this motor ? As of now it has the 86 carb on board and ran great before I tore into it.Will there be advantage's or dis-advantage's to the 38 vs the 36 ? The slide on my present carb is toast.This bike has been a pleasure and pain in the a$$ at the same time.I have to complete this bike for the fact that my wife bought this for me as an anniversary gift.Hopefully next year I can put an 86 motor in the frame to make it all legit.JT,I'm accepting cash also,as your bike got this all started,LOL.Seem's every little nook and cranny on this bike need's something.I WILL NOT GUIT UNTILL THIS BIKE IS COMPLETE,but it will take more time than originally expected.Ledger.

I'ver never ridden this 250 and probably won't. I ride my 125 and love it. The 500 I'm building at the moment will probably be a 'garage queen' too.

How did you work that out?
