I noticed his glute positioning was pretty far back on the seat (more traction), with his chest darn near lying flat across the cross bar. His center of gravity was a lot lower than the other guys in comparison those few brief seconds before the gate dropped. Lower center of gravity = a little more power without looping out. Same concept with moto GP road racing now I think about it. Every little bit helps at the level the 450 class is at.

He's definitely done something to improve his starts in the last few weeks. Kinda sucks from a viewer perspective Laughing

Him and Dunge were on it tonight. Wouldn't mind seeing Dungey pulling a holey one of these rounds, hopefully there's a bit of magic at Minneapolis

Eh, just watch how Alessi starts. He's in the classic starting position, and he is thought to be the best starter out there.

But yeah Villo's technique seems to be working well for him

I don't understand how RV got 3rd at the start. He looked like he was boxed in and at the tail of the pack. Everybody must have drifted wide and opened the door for him.

Like Canard.... would love to see him Top 3 at end of lap one. Starts are critical.... especially with this much talent in the field

Happened in the heat as well. Looked like Dungey closed him off, then he somehow snuck up the inside and claimed the holeshot

He doesn't seem to be as good at getting to the first turn as he does getting through the first turn. The top guys seem to be good at that.

I kept watching the fast guys lining up in the inside gates, and the way the track funnelled down I thought they'd get closed out, but all night they kept sneaking around the first turn on the inside while the other guys went wide. Typical supercross, it doesn't matter if you get TO the first turn first, it matters if you get THROUGH the first turn first.
