I have an 07 rm 250. I'm tearing it down to replace crank today. I have all my parts and want to finish it today. I forgot to order up me a new flywheel removal tool. Looking at the flywheel it looks like I may be able to use a standard gear puller and maybe grasp the outside lip of the fly and get it off, provided its not a really tight interference fit (there is very little to grip on that outer ring on the flywheel). Will this work or is there no way around having the tool?

Thanks guys,

Gerald

Anything other than the correct flywheel puller usually runs the chance of messing up the flywheel or even the crankshaft. In the long run the proper tool is the cheapest way to go. But on a good note that flywheel puller is very common and is the same puller for many models of dirt bikes including Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, & Suzuki's including the RM125's.

I would not recommend using a gear puller. You would be increasing the chance of damaging the end of your crank if you are not using the proper puller. Save yourself the time, money, and headaches and just buy the proper tool. Check Pit Posse for the best prices on tools.

Your best bet is to spray lighter fluid on it, torch it (make sure it's red hot), then smack it as hard as possible with a 16oz hammer.

..Seriously though, just pay $12 for a puller on ebay.
