after all the heat theyve been getting from the Vitards i believe a pat on the back is in order. Awesome track this weekend and it showed in the racing. Poto drama aside it was a great race to watch, great dirt, difficult sections. loved it.

Honestly, these guys do a great job week in and week out getting the tracks built and torn down. I'm not sure if they design them, but as far as building them... well done boys!

Really? I actually thought the track was 50/50. Half of it was good, the other half was fucking awful... mainly the sand section, the 90 degree turns into a one-lined rhythm lane, the "rollers" before and after triples that are one-lined, and the wall jump.

Several of those guys are pretty good friends and everytime i hear or see someone
saying negative stuff about them, pretty much piss's me off. Those cats work so many
hours and travel so much its not even funny. is it their job, yes, but too not have any clue
what goes into setting up for a single event, much less 17, and bitch and complain about the
work they do is ludicrous.!! They do not design the tracks, thats felds dept, they only implement
the blueprints given to them. They may modify a few things or tweak some stuff, but have no part
in designing the blue prints. I am sure Winkler works closely with feld, but ultimately Jendro and Prater
make the calls. If any of the nay sayers have the sack to tell anyone of the DW crew to their face's that
their tracks suck, let me know what round you will be at, and I will make sure you are properly introduced
so you can share your opinions with the guys, and tell them personally how you could/would do better!!!

I'm not knocking their ability to BUILD a track, but they need some new, creative minds DESIGNING the tracks. Could I do a better job, probably not.

Here's one example. 90* turns almost always only have one line through them. It is either you HAVE to roll the apex or rail the outside, you can't do both.

Almost all of the classic, awesome tracks of yesteryear share one important feature that is NEVER used anymore... an over/under jump. That feature alone totally opens up the stadium floor to do some different things, yet no one from that team will share why they refuse to use one.

The whole process has changed so much the last few years its not even funny.!
The whole "show" mentality has taken over something fierce, and the tracks are suffering
from this. The promotors are looking for ways to condense it down and make quiker work
of the set up tear down process. They are cutting corners everywhere they can to make it still
seem like the racing is the business. But, the business is not racing, its putting ass's in the seats
and monster cans in every persons hand. I as do they understand a fans prospective, but when it
comes time to work, they do like they are told like they rest of us, and they have to take most of the heat
for the lack of layout, design, size, etc... Its truely and amazing feat what they do each week!!

Or its all "The tracks fault"?!! Once again, if you are present in the US for round
i would gladly see to it you get a 1st hand view of how it goes.

As if it makes a small iota of a difference if I'm there or here or anywhere... I forgot the greatest minds in the world are planted in the stadium seats of America... gimme a fuckin break.

The track is the track... I don't need to be in a stadium to see there were no berms on the 180s, 90 degree corners elsewhere, a lack of options in the rhythm sections and almost no imagination in the track design... Welcome to 2013 SX.

Yes, the bikes, comp, fitness (respect - WTF?) have a factor, but those things won't change until half the comp retires and the manufacturers find a better bike...

This is the 2nd good race this year apart from the opener, the rest have been pretty much a snooze fest, the only reason it was ok was the dirt allowed guys to get inside on a flat corner... something you didn't see at Dallas, or Atlanta or most the Anaheims etc...

Why don't we do something about the things we can control, why does everyone just think it's ok as it is?

It would be pretty easy to make some MASSIVE improvements:

• Spend more than the minimum on what they can get away with for more dirt... More dirt, bigger obstacles, more options, Have you watched the Jeremy McGrath invitational? Take away the ramps, that track was about the scale it should be at.

• Make some cool obstacles instead of just just the same size doubles for rhythms, IMAGINATION HELPS! For example... The entry into the sand section... Watch Atlanta 08. That single, table, offcamber obstacle or something would have been way better there... not just another double.

• Extend the lanes to the length of the floor - the short lanes/walls/twists & 90s makes it one line and follow the leader... At best it makes the lap time 51 seconds instead of 49 at expense of good racing

• Build some berms that allow two or 3 people to be in them at once, a block pass will soon be a figment of the old timers imagination's...

• Nets behind the berms if you're worried about bikes launching... We've done it down here, it's there in loads of motorsports, not hard, you've just gotta stop a bike in the very unlikely event... (Once in SX practice, once in AX when the landing ramp was built against the wall)

• Run a 20 minute plus 2 main...

Geez imagine what you could come up with if you were sitting right there?!?! pffft

I honestly believe some of it could be fixed with track DESIGN changes. I am in no way knocking the people who BUILD the tracks. Design and build are two very, very different things. Think of it this way... For a web site, you have a designer and someone writing the code for that web site. Very different things, but both are important. There's zero creativity in the design department. The building/construction department is nailing it the best they can with the resources they are given.

I just feel another track designer needs to come in and create some life in an area that has become stagnant.

Time for Feld to purchase some St. Louis-like dirt for the SoCal rounds. It seems one stockpile of good dirt that could potentially be used for up to four rounds is a worthwhile investment.

I didnt mean it like that dickhead, what i meant was, if you were ever in the states
to witness a live SX, i would gladly get you in with a buddy and let you see the whole
process, but at this point ,wouldnt piss on you if you were on fire.
yes there are improvements, buts its not DW's fault for design, go back and re-read what i
said about the promotors. You seem to be very much an "I'm right, your wrong" type person,
get over yourself a bit and think about what i said, that the promotors are condensing things down

You obviously have your own series and know exactly what needs to be done, you got the easy part done
(talking about it), why dont you contact the proper channels with all of your wisdom, and get us those tracks
of the glory days and 25 min mains bigshot?

So why does everyone call out DW then? Why would they be to blame for all of the bad racing?
What else do we want for racing, in comparison to last week?! We had how many guys dicing for
how many laps? The slick tracks everyone rides with respect in regards to the track cause 1 front
end wash out = major points right now.

I would think uou could as some sand to the socal dirt and be able to water it more to give it a
more mid western composition?? You would have to believe they the resources to do so.

Not being know it all at all... Sorry if I offended you with my straight talking, seems to be an Aussie to American thing. You think we're being rude, we just don't bullshit about.

Bottom line the racing has been terrible, there has now been two races with passing, and tons of riders, fans (NOT just me) have beens saying the tracks are rubbish, boring etc...

And nothing is being done about it... Yeah there might be more issues, pack up and setup, I've run some big events down here, and have enough responsibility in my current job to know what it's like to have to manage other factors, but we work on the basic principal of wanting to deliver the BEST PRODUCT...

Not the most convenient to us... The tracks have been substandard for a while, and "once again", i'm not the only person to say so

I do not think that they do, i think they may work with feld a bit, but feld ultimately designs the tracks.

Also pretty sure I didn't mention DW... Do you have an association with them?

The design would be them i'd imagine but the purchasing of more dirt, netting the stadium, 20 min mains would be Feld.

What?!?! Everything i've heard it's almost exclusively Rich Winkler's domain?

Do you have something to do with them, you do seem to be defending them a bit
3/4/2013 3:25pm
nothing to do with them, but friends with some workers, that have been there along time
i am defending those guys that work their fukn ass's off like you cant imagine, and for what
a bunch of armchair racers to bash their efforts?? Yeah i might be a little defensive. As Far
as rich, if he does directly design them, and place them per venue, i would be greatly surprised
as far as i know, they work with feld on the design, and all that.
I am not defending the fact things could be different, i am stating what i have been told as far as the
process goes and why things are they way they are. Its alot of work, its greuling to the 10th degree,
and yet peeps be bashing the hard work thats put into the show for our amusement.
Do you think Reed goes yo winkler or Jendro when he has a track beef?

I'm not attacking them personally, the product however, has been shitty for a while, and it's totally fine to say so, and i'm not the only one to say it. Yes, I've heard the riders in interviews saying that they've told promoters/Rich that things need to be changed if it needs it... Heard it loads of times... James, Chad, RV, Davi have all said in podium interviews, rx interviews that the tracks have sucked...

I bet they do bust their asses, as do many employees of many companies... But you can work your ass off for MacDonalds, it's still a shitty fuckin hamburger.

Not an attack on them...

And regardless of it being a lot of work or what not, 5-7 years ago, the same company, the same promoters, were doing a MUCH better job...

I don't discredit the hard work these guys do week in and week out at all. Very tough job that has to be done right, and on time, no exceptions.

But the designs are dragging this series down, along with the dirt. All the tracks are so uninspired and standardized. I'm gonna keep beating this deceased horse, what benefit is there in standardizing tracks in a sport that has the opportunity for variance and originality. Each outdoor national is a different Monster (trademark) and that's part of what makes each round so exciting.

Those guys do an amazing job every weekend. It's just often the blame gets put on them when soil conditions cause the tracks to become one lined.

Ask Kyle Partridge what he thinks of over/under bridges. I'm going to guess that it's not good. If you've seen the shot of his foot after he smashed it between the bridge and his foot, I wouldn't argue with him.

I agree to a point, but then again Trey might not like triples either...

Maybe it's about placement, Kyle was doing mach 10 into that tunnel off a straight wasn't he?

Not trying to be rude, but ask some riders what they think of tuff blocks and covers....And they are still there

I'm going to guess Tuf-Blox (and the cover issue has been fixed) have saved more riders than they've hurt. But that's just me.
