Justin looked good but there is a lot of season left. I think Tomac belongs in the conversation but until Roczen wins something over here, he is on the outside looking in on that group.
he did win in 2011 east/west shootout....houston last year....and ran up front on a 250f in sept.....
Like I said, I wouldnt include Roczen in that conversation until he wins something(championship of some sort) over here......Moto win, a few sx wins and nice ride at an exhibition race in sept mean nothing until he holds a #1 plate up at the end of an AMA season like Justin and Eli have....just MHO though....

Changing of the guard?? Really? We are two races in.. Stewart has set the fastest lap time both races.. RV had a bad race race 1. Then had a bad start and came back to second while posting the fastest race of the night.. Reed has been quietly getting 4. Dungey had a good A1, and then in phonix had a bad crash, sure he was dinged up and still got a 8th.

Changing of the guard.. Wait till the end of the season.. Then wait till MX.. Vilopoto is way faster in outdoors.. barica will but a threat but its no changing of the guard yet.

Yet Reed is just 2 points behind Canard and 3 behind Barcia. Dungey is just 3 off Reed. Seems to me they're doing alright.

There's several guys with the ability to win races and win championships...but, there is no doubt that Barcia is a player and when the gate dropped at A1, he was ready for the season.

For whatever reason, everyone else was a touch off that mark. I'm sure all these guys worked their butts off, but Barcia is the guy with the right mind set.

I don't see a run away though. A bad start can change things in a hurry this year.

Barcia fresh out of the 250s where the guys are WFO from the time the gate drops will either be an advantage or a disadvantage. I think it'll help him because he's used to the intensity from start to finish. Honestly, I think the 450 guys have gotten into a little cat and mouse game where they each only push as hard as they need too to take the win, or settle for 2nd and "focus on the big picture." Usually(last year) by lap 12 there's only a couple guys up front battling for the win. Barcia is used to having a 5-6 way battle for the win on the last few laps, so I think it'll be an advantage. I know the veterans are used to dealing with pressure, but being 2.5 seconds behind the leader and in 5th/6th place with 3 laps to go has got to be frustrating, and frustration leads to mistakes.

Then again, going WFO from the time the gate drops may lead to a few more get offs, where as backing it down and only doing what is needed to win would be the better option. Time will tell I guess.

Personally, I like seeing a rider go all out for 20 laps. I like seeing a good battle, but nothing makes a bigger statement to your competition than beating them by 10-15 seconds.

Barcia had the fastest lap of the night in his heat race. But I still feel RV is the faster of the two.

It's the "Stewart" argument. RV may be faster than Barcia (and Stewart faster than both of them), but you have to finish at the front, to be declared the winner.

I am unbiased, so unlike most I don't make it a personal battle to argue who is faster. I enjoy watching either rider, and can't wait to see them start close and battle.

JB holeshots like Alessi but is faster and is harder to pass. I think he'll get many more wins.

This person's posts do not make any sense. There's been a couple and the run-on sentences make my head hurt. It's worse that I lived in the town he is from for several years. I worked in a public service place, and I probably helped him at some point. :/

Loved reading through these old thoughts on the new guard. Now. We can see Tomac showing how it just isn't that easy on the big bikes. The lap times he was posting in the west series had many thinking he would be winning the 450 class if he got on one. Also how Barcia's fast start slowed considerably. Always fun to have hindsight and see where perspective was back when.
