A lot of people don't speak well of Tony Alessi. Well, I've never met him or had any type of dealings with him ever, But at the Atlanta SX, I was sitting with another friend of mine in a behind the scenes area (beyond the pits) where several riders and family members came walking by. Over the course of about 30 minutes, Tony was the one and ONLY person who said anything to my friend and I. It was a simple, "Hey, how are you doing?" along with a smile and acknowledgement that we were there. I thought it was interesting that out of everyone who walked by and the things people say about him. So kudos to him.
Throughout the rest of the night, it was very interesting to observe who interacted well with fans and who seemed to "work" at it. I was pleased to see several young privateers who were obviously with mom and dad getting the opportunity to sign autographs and interact with kids and fans.

I had an experience similar to the OP. A couple of years ago, I had the fortunate opportunity to be at a private track where the Alessis were in town to get some track time in on the new KTM. While walking out to the track to watch Mike hammer out some laps, Tony walked up, engaged me in conversation and talked to me for 25 minutes for no other reason than being interested in me.
Talking about Moto Parents and being cool or not.... The pits in PHX are kind a mess as the factory rigs and rider motorhomes are almost a maze in some spots. So at PHX SX this year, before the pits had even opened to public, I had a guest pass and I was able to stroll around and check things out prior to pits opening ..While trying to get to the KTM and JGR rigs, I found myself standing in an area in front of Dungeys Target motohome/coach and Stewarts... ... Sitting there in lawn chairs sipping on some coffee was DeCoster and Dungeys dad. I didnt bother them or take pictures or ask "where is Ryan",,,,, I could care less, when all the sudden Dungeys mom appears on the scene....As I am lookind for a pathway to get to the KTM rig, she looks over at Roger and papa Dungey and makes this beig dramatic gesture as to say " who the hell is this guy?? "....They just sat there and kind of smiled and shrugged their shoulder as if to say " aint botherin us..who cares" ....then she looked over at me again with this puzzled angry look....I looked at Roger and papa Dungey smiling and just walked away as she sat there shaking her head.... she definatley pulled the RS (rock star) treatment and was acting pretty bitchy....in 2012 i sat next to mama Dungey and Ryans lady during practice and she was nice...not this time
DeCoster has stopped me a couple of times to check out my old bikes and sincerely expresses an interest in them. Very very cool person he is.
Once we arrived in Aspen, we are unable to find the owner of the briefcase. Tony gets all pissed off and wants to throw the briefcase in the damn lake. We pretty much come to blows and during our scuffle the briefcase comes open and reveals lots and lots of money.
We spend the money like there is no tomorrow on hotels, cars and some super sweet ski gear.
It got a little weird after that and we ended up right in the middle of a hostage situation, but all in all Tony Alessi is a cool guy.
I've been a fan of the Alessi's since Mike used to race mini's at local so cal Perris raceway and Tony announced.
"wulp, see ya later". Not too long after that I saw him with Freta Felcher and she told me the whole sleezy story Mr French Tickler.
