Thinking about getting a neck brace I'm leaning toward a leatt brace since I'm getting a leatt adventure roost deflector , any opinions? Should I even spend 300 bucks on one?

It's saved me. I fell once and slid on my head/shoulders really awkwardly, too hard too explain and my head was kinda tucked in being pushed by the friction from the dirt into my armpit and if I didn't have the neck brace it couldve snapped back. I think it's worth it. Definitely cheaper than a hospital bill or even the pain you just tweak your neck.

And I have an Alpinestars which I feel is much more low profile and less restricting. My buddy has a Leat tho and he likes it.

A lot of people are switching to the new EVS (below) or not wearing a neck brace period.

There is some controversy that the since the leatt will not let the neck roll or move so your head will take more of the impact. There are also some reports or back injuries where the brace goes down on your back or spine.

MX is a dangerous sport and no matter how much protection you are wearing there's always a risk. All we can do is try and determine what works best.

1) It all depends on your style and comfort, The Leatt is really restrictive in the back, and somewhat restrictive in the front, it just sticks up high in the back, if you ride way over the front of the bike you'll probably have a hard time with this brace.

2) Alpinestars is a really good brace, it isn't restrictive in the back but somewhat restrictive in the front but not enough you should notice a big difference. if your head is at a steep angle looing down you might have a hard time but it's still an awesome brace. My bro wears this and he wouldn't ever change it, it fits his riding style perfect

3) The Atlas is what i'm currently running, i think it's the most evolved brace and the idea of it is awesome. i wear mine with the fox airframe chest protector, i have to wear the chest protector one size bigger than i normally wear, the brace compensates for the size issues, I have no issues on the restriction i ride over the front of the bike because i'm tall at 6'3 and have no issues with restriction, not restrictive in the back and puts my head at a comfy position in the front.

4) I've seen the evs braces never tried one one on, my buddy wears one he says it's pretty awesome, but I really don't know anything about them.

I hope this helps I have a hard time with neckbraces, but i finally found one I love and that i really feel safe in, do the same for yourself and if none of them do then do it for you then don't wear one if their too restrictive, when you don't ride how you know how to ride that's usually how you end up going down, learned it the hard way, so just kinda experiment with them, and if you don't like it you can always sell it !

I would try on each different brace and see what works with your body style. I have a Leatt GPX Pro and it fits fine and I have great range of motion. I've been told I have a longer neck though.

If you can go to a store that sells the Leatt, Alpinestars, and the Atlas brace, try on all three. Each one has advantages and disadvantages, I ended up with the Leatt because it fit me the best and its adjustable. Also bought the vest protector to go with it, fit and finish with the brace to vest is more than impressive. Worth the money. Easy to wash, take off the foam and throw it in the wash with your gear, pressure wash the plastic with your bike.

Leatt FTW, I ride forward/over the bars quite abit and it doesn't bother me. In fact, hell I don't even notice it when riding.

Ya dude it's kind of hard because i have shoulder problems so i have to with the chest protector with the shoulder cups and so the leatt sets a little high on my shoulders, so it's a little higher than it would be on a normal person, plus i'm pretty tall i'm 6 feet 3 inches tall so i look down at a steeper angle than most people like i said, in the orginal post if it isn't comfortable or safe then don't wear it, i just didnt feel safe or comfortable with the leatt when i had it.

I prefer atlas but my leatt save my life just recently when I endoed over a triple and got caught in the bike. I sustained a lot of injuries but my neck and cervical section on my spine where covered and protected. Not only am I typing this but I'm sitting in this chair by choice too. Get one.

I hear ya I'm 6'2'' myself but I don't wear any chest or roost protectors so that prolly is the difference.

You really have to spend a little time and make sure your chest pro and the leatt itself are adjusted properly. I had run the leatt improperly set up for me and found it really restrictive as well. The thing I found most important is making sure you have the right insert in (the part you buckle) to make sure that the leatt lays flat on your shoulders. If you do that it will be fine.

I have the Leatt and the EVS, but prefer the Leatt. I feel safer wearing the Leatt. I have crashed HARD wearing the LEATT and my helmet has been totalled (Shoei) on the chin part, but my neck has come out unscathed.

I have 10 screws and 2 plates in my neck, so I want all the protection I can get!
