Do you have positive skills that you can contribute to a local MX track?

We are building new MX tracks in all regions of Maryland and need engineers, fence builders, heavy machinery operators, constructive construction workers that will be part of a team of people building and maintaining a track.

If this sounds good to you please visit the facebook page at www.facebook.com/mxcouncil or email your info at mxcouncil@comcast.net

Bump?

No really. We need workers that will be part of a team to build MX tracks.

15 months and no reply? I guess there's not enough MX people in Maryland - we'll have to change that. I've come to ask anyone who has successfully started a track to discuss impervious surfaces with me. You'll know what that means if you have built a legal track. I'm concerned about its calculation - so if you know about this please respond.

Thanks!

WOW. Your a real douche riding in your douchecanoe....bump bump bump.

Impervious surfaces sure.....build a sidewalk to the parking lot, park your canoe and read....

Impervious surfaces are mainly artificial structures—such as pavements (roads, sidewalks, driveways and parking lots) that are covered by impenetrable materials such as asphalt, concrete, brick, and stone--and rooftops. Soils compacted by urban development are also highly impervious.

Any questions?

You are an ignorant human being.

You apparently have no clue what the OP has been, and is, up too.

Yeah, I have a question.

How many motocross tracks have you saved or built in your home state?

I'm not talking about a a jump in your parents back yard on daddy's skid loader,
how many tracks have you created or built in a legal way with government backing?

Guys RM250 guy is a long time friend of mine and ....... the real deal pursuing legal non profit state backed tracks in Maryland.

Guys constantly bitch about there being no where to ride.... get off your asses and help and YOU will have a place to ride!

Without volunteers to help him build and operate he can not open these tracks.

He already re-opened Antietam that had been closed down after operating for 40 years.

If you want to help out, go to Easton's track and build a bathroom/facilities/parking lot so they can host a MAMA race.

Best track in the area, but you can't hold a big race there.

Yeah I posted because the County (the final arbiter of what constitutes impervious surfaces) tells me that the track on which the dirtbike rides is considered compacted soils, and thus impervious. Also my partner in the Motocross Council, a civil engineer, told me that first. I was hoping, beyond hope, that someone here who has experience dealing with environmental regs and site development might have an alternative for us. It would be the difference of costing us about $10k, and it would mean TRACK or NO TRACK. So yeah I have questions - or rather the original question. If you know so much about impervious surfaces, Trailhopper, and love moto so much, why don't you tell something that I don't already know and help us open a real track in a state that needs one real bad. BTW, the offer stands: join the team.

Here's a little update. I've got my DNR guy on the problem of right of way access. I may have found an example of a successful mx site plan that uses a % of imperviousness for a motocross track. The County is very strict, but if we can get our DNR guy to get us access, we will be in business Summer 2013.

I would help out! If you build it they will come. I am sick of driveing two plus hours to ride. Where are you thinking about building track? Not much room around this state besides out rt 70 and that is still a drive.

We have a number that are in the works - lots of intricacy though. Besides Taneytown, we have tracks to be built from Hancock to Baltimore. Where do you live? You can email me anytime at mxcouncil@comcast.net and I will get the message quicker.

Maybe you could do like many other groups in the country and start a club. That way you would have a better way to organize and have a framework to operate from. Members for their work in the club projects could receive discounts or even free access to the areas your involved with. It gives the members an organization to be a part of . Otherwise sometimes your volunteers end up drying up after awhile. Even with a club 20% will do 80% of the work.

T-Bone's is now Earl's. Earl is a really nice guy and he grew up riding on that track. We'll get him a permanent place in the pits! I like the idea of a club or something like it - but yeah the problem is 20% will still do the work whether there are incentives or not. I'm taking on a lot of risk to do this so I'm hoping people will help however they can before we actually get approval for the place.

Yeah feel free to attend the next meetings, and introduce yourself. Check the facebook page for whenever we come up with a date for meetings - right now no one has called one (we let the public call the meetings if they want because we consider these tracks to be the Public's tracks). Wow there went a low-flying helicopter! WTF. Anyway, since you live in MD you know how desperate things are regarding places to ride. I'm sick of it so I'm doing something about it since one else did. If we can get into Taneytown without getting killed on County permit fees (I'm waiting on a call from the Deputy Director on that right now), we will try and get Taneytown open this Summer. Maybe Antietam will open just before that. And hopefully next year we'll have the big place out in Hancock. Hope to meet you soon.

I was hoping to reach someone who has experience and not just calling me a douche for starting a motocross track where there was only raw land. I really hope to find someone that understand about impervious surfaces and the County permitting process. "Impervious surfaces are mainly artificial structures" = this is untrue. Even a grass field is about 49% impervious. "covered by impenetrable materials such as asphalt, concrete, brick, and stone--and rooftops" = the County thinks not, that is why they are making us jump through hoops: open dirt surfaces allow stormwater to travel faster than a grass surface, and the county compares that unfavorably to asphalt, concrete, and stone. Not my law, it's theirs. I

Compacted soils are "also highly impervious". I'm looking for someone who knows how to get around this stupid mindset.

Well I live close to Ocean City and would love to do whatever I can to help. Actually, a friend of mine just bought The Landing in Easton. They've renamed it Speed Citi and they've put a ton of time into it. Shoot me a message and I'll give you my email so you can send me some details.

How about a tiered membership within the club. Start out everyone at a fixed price,if the track is new, and needs help getting done. Assign points to jobs or work time, and those that do the work get lower membership fees. The more they do, the less the fee. When they reach that point, they have to put in the required number of hours, or get dropped down, and pay more the next year. It's worked for us up here for 50 years.

I know when you build a house in certain counties they make you dig a big ass hole in the yard,
heck sometimes 15 x 15 x 10 feet deep, fill it with gravel then run the downspouts to it.
Maybe the 10 grand you're talking about is for something like that.

Maybe if the site plan showed the access road with a, let's say 10 foot band, or shoulder, of mulch
or whatever they say is the most porous material, that lined the road. They might look at that.
But they're gonna want to see calculations, something from an engineer.

If you need to look at that book I recommended last year,
the one they used on the Hatfield/McCoy system motogrady@yahoo.com., I'll get it to you.

Hey Grady I ended up getting that book right after that! They have a nice DVD also that they send out for free. All of that was really helpful. Oh, and after talking to the Deputy Planning Director today I recalculated and it's only $5,500 if I go by limits of disturbance. We could probably raise that with donations. I'll write you soon, LastCall, just busy right at this moment.

I'll give you a call hopefully tomorrow Dave. Thanks for the offer to help, everybody. I'll touch base as soon as I can!!!
