The action was non-stop, so I can understand them having a tough time covering it all. However, to only show one of RV's crashes (3 total?), and to not show what happened to Barcia in 3rd was a mistake.

Personally, I could give a crap about what they discuss. I can use a good chuckle once in awhile. Hell, put Bob Goldwaith in there, for all I care. I'd rather see more money be put into getting better video coverage so we get to see more racing and don't miss key events (like passing).

No, he wouldn't. Carmichael and Emig pretty much walk through the basics, and they do an ok job of it. Ever listen to a pro NFL game? Their announcers communicate even less to their fan-base, and that sport is absolutely huge, especially when compared to SX.
Ricky was in the booth mocking Emig to the point that it was affecting the broadcast. Ever see that in the NFL?

There were a few shockers. The worst one was that even on live TV coverage I could see Barcia go down behind Millsaps and Canard, yet it took them another 2-3 turns to even notice Barcia wasn't there.

As for just calling from the TV coverage, what's the point in that? Half the reason to have expert commentators for sports is that they can be watching the action themselves and point out things happening away from the current shot.

I enjoyed the show just fine. I guess I'm not as picky as long as my favorite riders don't crash. Of course I also watched 2 episodes of Honey Boo Boo back to back last night....so my opinion might not be worth much. hey, I've never seen that train wreck, couldn't help it.

The TV coverage is a small example of the MX media industry as a whole. You see things on websites, social media, magazines, and TV that seems like High School intelligence, maturity and drama. There's always a secret someone knows but "can't say". Or an inside joke played out in front of a national audience. Sometimes a joke is funny, but jesus, talk about the race. Tell me how a guy off camera is doing. Quit repeating the same simplistic garbage for every show. SX is more complicated than "he's got some new lines". Tell the audience why the guys do certain things or use certain techniques. Quit telling me a guy just jumped a new quad section that I saw him do 5 laps ago or in the heat race. Someone could learn more about football watching 1 game than about MX in a season, based on the quality of TV.

If we can't have mature intelligent broadcasts, then how will SX appeal to new people? Maybe the NFL would look the same if a circus company owned it too.

The need David Bailey back. McGrath would be good too I think. Ricky Johnson was always good as well.

Although I don't pay that much attention to the commentary myself, I think it could be done a lot better. RC and Fro were exceptional riders, but they don't have the intellect or communication skills to be calling the races, IMO. Ralph doesn't seem to have enough knowledge of the sport either.

I acknowledge that it is a difficult job (I would be hopeless at it), but I am sure there are people around who could do it justice. It is great that the races are being shown on live TV, but that doesn't mean the poor commentary should just be tolerated and exempt from criticism. If nothing else, they should go back to having Emig and Shaheen in the booth only - two is company, three is a crowd.

Ralph has gotten so much better since his early days. I thought they did a good job. The only complaint I had about the race was cutting away to long replays. The main one that made me mad was the "Pass of the Race" by Trey Canard that they showed during the race while those two were still battling. "Pass of the Race" should be shown after the race. That's just my opinion. Overall though, I thought they did good.

I'm a fan of Weege, I say throw him in the mix.

I agree that Ralph has improved a lot. I wouldn't say he is good, but I don't think he is that bad either. IMO, the main problem is that RC and Emig seem to trip over one another a fair bit.

Now that you have brought it up, I also thought the timing of the "pass of the race" segment was poor.

I liked Ping. He was silly enough but yet still insightful.

......with David Bailey doing colour - I would have no objection to that. Jim Holley and Kevin Barnett seemed to be really good during the practice coverage, too.

How about this incredibly insightful "Keys to the race"

Haha. ^^^ RC's advice to Tickle before the race? Happy Gilmore would have to me my all time favourite movie.

On the subject of "key's to the race," they were slightly more insightful at A1 than the genius they have shared in the past:
- Get the holeshot
- Don't crash
- Ride fast
