I see the Ebay ad and it's all wrong. So I try to be nice and help the guy out.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-CR125R-Cylinder-and-Piston-Kit-No-Wrist-P…

Sent him this message:

That cylinder is for a 1979 CR125 (side port, single downtube frame), not an 80 model(center port, twin downtube frame). It has also been sleeved and no longer retains the chrome bore. Hope this helps.

Then he schools me...LOL :

This came off a 1980 CR125 Elsinore. 1979 and 1980 CR125 Elsinores both have the same part number for this cylinder. 1981 Had the more modern style head, like you see on newer 2 strokes. 79 and 80 frames are the same, 81 is where they change. Its way before my time, so I'm not saying your wrong in any way. I'm just stating it as what I know. But I do appreciate the help. If you need any OEM Honda parts in the future, just let me know. I'll give you a pretty nice discount. Thanks Bud,

If you google search a '79 and '80 CR125, click images, you can plainly see a '79 has a single downtube and side port, while the '80 has a double frame downtube and central port. Hey, at least the guy "knows" his business.

BTW Newmann...I know you are right...but if this guy just looked quick at the schematic, I can see how he was confused...Dang those boys in red imaged the wrong part.....Here's the 79 frame confirming side port/single down tube

I messaged a guy on Ebay one time that clearly had the wrong photo with his description of a part. He pretty much told me to f%*k off.

More modern style head he said.......Yes it is called water cooled, no fins!!!!!!!!!. I had two of those the first year of the cr125 water cooled elsinore. Was a great bike with absolutely no bottom end or mid range, but on the pipe it was alot of fun.....

I've done the same thing. Sometimes they appreciate the info. Anyone bidding on that should know it's wrong. I don't many people are rebuilding those bikes that aren't really knowledgable.

Been pretty frequent on that site during the years, every now and then I feel an urge to mail people to point out they might a bit off in the info, most often the wrong year which means misfit. Have bough MANY pipes for the CRFs and the standard issue is that people don't get the change between 2005 and 2006 with 250, and the added confusion with the CRF250X that was single pipe during the whole era...

Right now I'm trying to communicate with a guy that's pretty clueless about his product, which means it might be a bargain because of his shortcomings, or it's a total turd of a product...

Well, all ebayers know the up and downs...

Now that that's cleared up....I wonder if I should point out to him the difference between the stock 79 CR125 piston cutaway

and the generic multi year Wiseco #448 (79 up to 1984?) that he has for it? On left in pic is a 448 Wiseco. Center is a 74-78 CR125 stock piston and far right a 74-78 I cut to match the 1980 skirt length and cutaway. Smile

Just a hole in the wall paint/body guy with a cluttered garage. And a touch of the vintage addiction.
