I bet PC and FC guys get a kick out of reading stuff like this laughing at prices and horsepower numbers... Job security.

Ron Hamp is one of the best four stroke engine builders out there and I remember seeing a test he did on one of his Honda 250Fs and I think it was around 46 to 47 HP at the tire. I cant imagine the factory bikes being much higher then his.

First, I want to say that I didn't waste my time, reading anything past the original post. With that said, money is the biggest factor in being the top bike in this class.

IMPO, that;s not good for this sport.

the 40k CRANKS for each pc bike are a little extreme, you could easily spend 15k INLCUDING the cost of a 250 smoker and make a competitive sx class bike
Where did you hear that number? I heard from a reputable source that their cranks from an F1 supplier were only $17,500.00 each....Woohoo

That "newmann" guy should be by any second to throw out some huge number like 79 HP because he knows soooo much about what is inside a modern race engine. LOL. Straight from a competing team manager: 42-45 HP(depending on weather/altitude/etc.) on the older carbureted bikes and they have no doubt developed them since then. Torque: he didn't say. Fuck I'm such a cool insider now.
Yeah, that's me. Coming from the guy that claims their is "millions of tiny holes in a old school carburetor" , well I'm just laughing at you Mr. Anonymous.Wink

I think the big diference is not in the hp but the rpm. The materials used to get to these rpm's and how much they last. That's where the big money goes.

I like tuned lengths response bogus numbers vs BMEP Its highly unlikley that a mx engine with its generaly poor port angles and limited valve train geometry is going to produce BMEP like a gsxr or one of the new rs 1000 bmws with there much straighter ports and better efi they also have better valve train alowing more cam lift and more agressive lobes the 4 cylinders have the advantage of using exhaust scavenging from other cylinders also .a very well tuned bmw will make 200 hp thats 50 hp per cylinder .
