As posted on RacerX... opening the door for another USA Dream Team?

"Art. 2.2 Acceptance of entries

The maximum age limit of 23 years for the MX2 class is no longer valid for the FIM Motocross of Nations."

Should make things 'slightly' more competative. Italy in particular must be breathing a sigh of relief.

Do you reckon any of those guys would perform better than Tomac and Baggett though? We've seen what happens when 450 vets drop to the 250 class

Yeah like Tedesco! (No offense). Tedesco is GREAT, and did awesome in the Nats he did IMO, however RV, Stew, Dung, are on another level and I think would safely be a good bet to beat current 250f riders, or at LEAST be on pace with them with much more confidence and poise.

I think maybe when this was put in place (5 years ago?) the FIM anticipated a better flow of young riders coming up from Euro championships and this didn't happen because the economic crash..

Actually, I think precisely the opposite was the intention. The 250F racing was better than the 450's so they introduced the rule to strengthen the big class. Same thing happened in road racing GP's when the 125s were by far the best class, entertainment-wise.

Good rule change back, it makes sense. It'll give everyone more room but I think it'll especially help the smaller countries (like Italy for example) that already have a difficult enough task putting 3 quality riders together before the added unnecessary hindrance of who is allowed to ride what.

great news! its cool to see some of the older guys drop back down onto 250fs sometimes (be even better if they ran a 125 class instead!)

125s, 250, open - now that would be good!

Yes. Also I think you'd be hard pressed to find an established 450 class star willing to make the step down, even if it's "for the team".

Interesting. Could be!

This is from memory, but I remember at the FIM awards in Monaco, 2007, The FIM MX Pres Srb pulls me aside because there was a side meeting about it that weekend. He outlines this abitious plan that beefs up Euro championships-they even wanted a 125 2-stroke class thinking that the expense of 4-strokes (and the extra mechanic you need) is killing the poorest racers. This was the same meeting that agreed, a second time, on phasing out 450s and making MX1 350s. (people hated and refused to believe this, and a year later, the economic crash derailed it).

My understanding at the time was that making MX2 a youngsters class supported the beefed up Euro championships, so they would have room to race when they move up.

The FIM didn't get what it wanted as far as 350s and I don't think 125 2-strokes saved the little guy racer. At least give them some credit for trying to steer "the sport" in the right direction, or any direction. People were just whining about YS greed because its not their job to manage the sport, it's the FIMs. They do more than people thnk.

Like anything else, there may be way more to it than advertised.

True trivia- Wolfgang is stepping through this stuff and being very clear because he knows already that people just call BS on it when I pass it on. He goes "This is really what we just decided, you tell that 500 Guy....What is wrong with those people anyway?" Smile

Huge news for France. This was Marvin's last year of Mx2 eligibility and a team consisting of him, Paulin and Frossard could be a huge threat in Teutschenthal. Also big news for Belgium. They would have been dead in the water without a ranked MX2 rider but now they have multiple possibilities with Desalle, De Dycker, Van Horeebeck, Roelants, and Stribos.

France would have had a great team these past two years had Frossard not been injured for both MXdNs.

Hope he has an injury free season next year before its too late Sad

Frossard won the GP at St Jean d'angely before getting injured before the MXoN there if my memory is correct?

That's been tough for Frossard,he's been the quickest French rider since going MX1 but injuries have dogged him, hopefully he will slot right back in as a contender
