Pulled back muscle - how long off the bike?

Edited Date/Time 11/11/2012 10:30am
I strained my back a week ago working in the garden and it is still a little tender. I rode my dually KTM last night for a short street ride and felt OK.

How much time off would you take from moto with a moderately pulled muscle in your back?

There are these guys out there that went to school for a long long time and they can help you better than a bunch of washed up never beens that are on here .... They're called Dr's! Call one now before they all disappear when obamacare comes online and you will have to wait all day long or longer to see one!

If its nothing serious and just a strain, ice it and when it feels better get back on the bike!

I have an incredibly bad back (go to pick up socks on the bed and end up on the floor bad) .... you really need to go see the doctor. If for nothing else to verify the location and severity of the issue.

The lower on your back it is the longer it is to recover from (my experience) ....

Usually I can't/won't ride for a week of having no pain, stiffness or limited flexibility after the injury.

It's definately a pulled muscle. My doc gave me muscle relaxers after a full exam. I didn't ask about dirt bikes because most docs will tell you not to ride even if you're healthy.

I guess it won't kill me to play it safe for another week or two.

Continue to keep your back limber. Don't stretch the pulled muscles, but keep them loose. Ice after any workout 15 minutes ice on.

Once it starts to improve over the next 4-5 days work back into moderate exercise, icing after your workout.

A real man wouldn't need to take time away from motocross for such a minor "injury".

If it was me, I would work through it by riding and keeping flexible. (stretch a lot) Also not knowing your age and how you did it.....I would take time to consider a work out that will strengthen the core as the core controls the back.
