I like the new names better the the old ones.

However, I would have preferred them to go with SX1 and SX2 for Supercross and MX1 and MX2 for Motocross. This would prevent confusion between the old 250 (450) and the current 250F class. It would also eliminate the need for future name changes, should the displacements change again. If the class names were standardised with the GP's, comparative discussion of the two series' would be less cumbersome too.

The old 125, 250 and 500 classes were cool, but those days are gone.

No SX1 SX2 makes me think it was a Feld decision to match up with the nationals format. Just like SX1 and MX1 in Europe.
SX1 & SX2 just made too much sense.

Finally dumping the "lites" moniker was long overdue, but was anyone really expecting them to do the proper thing? I wasnt.

Shut up man. That class isn't expensive enough. In this economy, we need VERY expensive race classes to keep the wheels going. Wait...

Regarding the topic, I like the name changes. Wink

That's the absolute best they could come up with? Maybe it should be a weight class...

Pro1 = 450

Pro2 = 250 IMO this should be a premier class also. some people are just not built to race 450's nor develop in such a way

SemiPro East/West 125's developmental/exposure class

How slow do you have to be to get on a do the bloody obvious. SX1 and SX2 - couldn't be simpler.

Turns out History books show Barcia, Tedesco and Pourcel are all two time 250cc champions but David Bailey, Johnny O'mara and Jeff Emig could only manage the one. Oh, and Windham aint got none.....

It's pretty close. The 250 and 450 weigh about just that. If they keep adding "features" the 450 will be there in no time. They have been fattening up steadily since inception. Add some more silencers, a couple of cup holders and an ashtray and they will finally have it.

It would be a classic.
This would be the "who's on first" act.

I AM on a 250sx! yes, but this is the 250SX class! I know, Here's my 250sx class bike. NO, you cant race a 250sx in 250sx class! But you just said this IS 250sx class!? I AM on a 250sx. You have to race your 250sx in the 450 class. But its a 250SX! ....
.....
so your saying you are bike racist?
YES! The 250SX is TOO good to let race in the 250sx class.

I just don't like putting a displacement number size on our class names. That's the exact reason we have this problem in the first place. What happens if in 5 years every manufacturer is making 350's and that''s the way to go? The 450SX and MX class will sound stupid. From someone who has followed F1 and GP2 for years it was never confusing. 1 is a more desirable number than 2 so the better class gets 1. SX for Supercross and MX for motocross. Their European feeder series are EMX2 and EMX125. It's so archaic in it's simplicity it's brilliant in my eyes. To each their own though. I know plenty who don't agree with me.
How hard is it to change it to the 350 class if all the companies start making 350's?

The rulebook will still specify what bikes are still allowed to race each class...

Displacements in sports change all the time and they don't change their name. Formula 1 has had over 10 different engine regulations over the years and it's still Formula 1. Like someone else said, try explaining to someone five years from now the difference between the 250 class from the 80's-mid 2000's and how now the old 125 class is now the new 250 class but all of the old 125 records are now kept in the new 250 class and the old 250 records are now kept with the 450 records and if you include the "what if" 350 getting changed then the old 250 records are now the new 450 records that are getting switched over to 350 records. It's a giant cluster fuck if you ask me. It's the sport I love though.

Now if we can get the riders and industry to quit calling the Regional Championships East coast and West coast.

Sounds stupid when a race is in Houston, Dallas, Indy, St. Louis or Minneapolis and they call it an East Coast or a West Coast
race.

The frequency of the changes isn't the point.

The logical thing to do is base the class naming system on a methodology that is future-proof. Class-names based on current bike displacement is a band-aid.

SX1 and SX2 is simple, logical and utterly future-proof.
