I have 03 C250 that I picked up last year. It had no top end so I rebuilt it. I found out someone installed the valve that holds the cables upside down. Now the thing rips and I rail ruts better then on my 09RMZ450. I have about the same amount into it as that bike for sale. The fun I have riding a two stroke again PRICELESS.

This is my '04. I don't plan on ever selling it. If it gets to a point where I can't ride it, I'll just fix it up and keep it in the family. As far as how it rides, I love the handling and the top end. The lack of bottom really didn't bother me at all. Made me ride a little harder.

JD Jet kit and a V-Force reed valve made mine pretty snappy, still a dog down low though

I just bought an 03' last saturday, took it home and cleaned the airbox and carb, greased everything, did a filter and oil. Then took it to milestone on sunday. My last Honda was a 98 250, so I had to relearn this bike. The Jetting was off, it was way lean, but I just short shifted all day and kept banging out moto's. By the end of the day I was really getting a good feel for it. It does find a rut really easy, the power is still a mystery with it being so lean. Anyway, It's rejetted now and Enzo has the suspension, I'm gonna race REM on sat, then the Vet National on it. It should be a much better bike this weekend.

My point here is one thing...$1,800 got me burning laps again!

The 2003 CR250 was may favorite bike, no joke. It handled so awesome, both in the deep rutted corners and on the choppy straights, and in between. and I had no complaints about the power, I preferred the smooth power delivery actually. all I had was a V-Force on mine and I loved it. actually wish i never sold it. They made very minor changes to the 04 and I didn't like it as much.

Anyone who tells you this bike has a weak motor just doesn't have it set up properly. I put the air striker carb on mine adjusted the cables on the power valve and added a pro circuit pipe and silencer. While it may be alittle soft on the bottom, mid to top my yz250 won't touch it.Wink

these bikes will become hot commodity in a few years..they are super reliable, built like a tank and with some minor mods you have a bike that is zero maintenance (almost)

im not a total honda fanboy (i have owned a few suzukis) but there is no denying these bikes are built great....id reccomend anyone who is trying to get into racing to buy a cr125 or cr250....cheap, reliable and DAMN FUN.

2003 CR250 ; J&D Jetting Air Stryker, 50/50 C-12/pump gas, Rad valve, 10 oz flywheel weight, FMF SST pipe & shorty have been installed since this photo was taken.

Runs great, no more re-jetting when the sun goes behind a cloud, & it seems to rev a bit further now.

Get your suspension done for your needs.

Amaze your four-stroke riding buddies with your newly acquired cornering speed.

have fun!

@bermshredder

how is the SST pipe?? i really like my stocker but will be doing the Kehin PWK and since I already have a shorty silencer i wanna change it up. does it take away alot from the low-end??

right now im rocking a stock engine with the excetion of vforce reeds. when the stars are aligned, it runs really good but the mikuni is a piece of dogshit that can appear to be running rich but feel like its running lean

im not really into hot rod bikes..im all about usability and ease of riding..which is why i like this bike because it doesnt hurt hard down-low..its more or less a 125 on steroids IMO. slow bikes are faster!

I like the SST over the Fatty & stocker. The Air Styrker made the biggest difference, imo.

The flywheel weight smooths it out, & helps with the over-rev.

I don't like hard to ride hot-rodded motors either. Smooth & easy to ride is my goal. Race gas seems to make it run a bit nicer, as well.

To answer your question, I think the SSt with a shorty actually helps out the bottom.

You want the right gearing for the riding you do, & chassis set-up is critical for good handling, imo.

Oh, it likes fresh spark plugs as well; more crisp.

The next thing on my to-do list is to have the cylinder cut to correct the squish. After that, I may send out my other motor for the Gorr treatment....not sure how big to go though.

something is wrong with yur YZ! good bike, easy to ride N Predictable. but the YZ250 is about the most perfect 2stroke thier is.

Sorry my friend to Burt your bubble, but I did ride the A class and I had two of them, while the overall spread on the YZ was better and easier to go fast on it doesn't have the top end of the Honda, but then again.........neither one will touch a KTM, so I'm not sure what we are arguing about. I have sold a few late model CR250s in the last cpl of wks for a friend of mine. He bought a cpl of new 13 KTM 2 strokes. I love the Honda 2 strokes & have ridden one 2 wks ago & a buddy of mine races a new YZ250 2 stroke & I've rideen his a few times so I'm pretty familiar with both of these bikes. My 13 KTM250SX on the track feels like it has 10 more HP than both of those bikes & handles just as good as both & turns way better than either of them. I have this beauty for sale right now if anyone is looking for one. 2006 CR250 that has NEVER been ridden in the dirt. It has a new Bill's pipe & silencer on it as close to showroom condition as they come. Other than finding one in the crate you are never going to find another one like this. $4500 or best offer.

I had an 02. Handling was great but I wasn't too jazzed over the feel of an aluminum frame, super rigid it seemed. Engine almost felt electric. Pretty smooth power delivery, no big hit anywhere.
The RC valve engines started in 02 and I had one as well....yes the chassis was RIGID but I put a little $ into the motor, no porting but just about everything else and like someone said when that motor was spinning it was FAST on top, that bike screamed but the bottom was so weak if I wasn't moving in a corner it was hard to pull the bike up ....made me a good rider bec I had to stay on top of it..... Now the 03 was changed in the engine and it was more of a mid only motor from the ones i rode, I liked my 02 better but is buy that 03 in a second....these bikes keep showing up for cheap and they are so fun to ride. I want a garage full of em

Those CR'S never came with kyb forks ....only the 125.

BTW I LOVED the hotrod motor you could bring that bike WAY inside on a tight track and pull jumps 2nd pinned out of the corner most had to do in 3rd, that is if you were on the clutch but the overrev that bike had is unmatched from any bike I've ridden since and I regret selling my 02.... even worse I sold it to buy an 04 crf450, I got along with that bike pretty well but it was never the same till I picked up my RM's a couple years ago.... In 05 they tweaked the angle of the rc valve and it helped.

These 2 guys are twins & have 35 bikes between them & one of the brothers is building a CR125 stroker with a 99 CR125 with a 6 sp tranny in a 2006 CR125 chasis & he wanted the Showa stuff for this project bike which he'll probaby never ride.

I picked up my 2nd 03 CR 250 in 2 months, today! These really are great bikes, plenty of motor and handles the rough stuff like a champ! I've raced it about 4 times in the last 5 weeks and i'm really having fun on it. Corner entry speed is amazing and having the ability to hop over holes again is pretty cool too.
Had Enzo set up my suspension, the shock is $, the forks took a while to get use to. They seem to push through the travel easy, not very progressive. Gonna give them back and see what they can do.
These bikes are gold, I think, that's why I wanted another. They are almost free! Each one cost me $1,800.

02 and 03 had the updated chassis without the stupid RC valve......go for it

I'm sure this is going to be super helpful to the OP considering this thread is from 2012.

Anybody ever have one, or know much about them? I can get a barely-ridden 2003 CR250 for less than $2k and wondering if I should. It has RG-3 triple clamps, AGV levers, a Pro-Circuit pipe, Pro-Taper bars and he just replaced the original tires for some new Dunlops.

$1900.

Please advise.

Also, I'll be setting it up to race some off-road stuff...desert and trails.

Deal, or No Deal?
I used to own an 03. if you buy it and are riding tracks I would add 1 tooth to rear sprocket. Vforce reeds, FMF SST pipe/silencer. with these mods The case reed engine on 91 octane is really susceptible to climate and temperature changes. I used a 50/50 of 91 pump gas and VP c12. That basically solved the problem. if you use this gas combo the main is 2-3 steps too rich, the go down 1 on needle. I think the pilot will be close but may go up 1 step. Fun bike and handles really well
