I've always considered myself to be pretty sharp at figuring things out but damn, I went to Google for help this time. Found a Youtube vid that made me go DUHHH! Never before have I had to fight a set of pegs in place. Bear trap springs I'm tellin' ya!

Totally totally agree with you on that one. I saw these badass Raptor handmade Ti pegs on Dungey's 450 & had to have them for my 13 250SX. I went to put them on & I was getting my ass kicked & had to walk away for 5 mins to calm down I was so mad :-)

It's even more fun in the middle of the desert when things are tweaked.

No, that's where it would be the easiest. There would be no springs...Laughing

Yuuup!!
I've installed many footpegs in my life, but after attempting to install the pegs on my KTM 690 about a dozen times without success, I went to You Tube and found the same video. I knew I wasn't the only one.
With this help, I went back and had them on the bike in seconds. Thanks You Tube!

I've built a few new KTM's back in the day. The key is using a large phillips head screw driver and inserting it up into the pin hole from the bottom to hold the peg and spring in place on the frame, without the pin. Then use a small mallet to tap the pin into the hole, which drives out the screw driver. It's fairly easy once you get the hang of it.

Exactly. How hard can it be to install a footpeg? Laughing

Everything you described is the easy part. Getting the spring into position without the vice grips would be next to impossible. Definitely something every young man should experience at least once in his life...lol

The vice grips look like a good tip, although I never really had as problem getting a large phillips head screwdriver into the spring without them. The sharp point of the screw driver makes it easier than a punch.

Is that an issue with newer models? I put Fastway lowboy pegs on my 07 and I don't remember it being that big of a deal.

That's how I put my daughters bike together that we got her for her birthday a few days ago. She's in the ICU right now, but the docs say there's a pretty good chance she'll walk again.......so she has that going for her.

Saturday morning it was drizzling rain. Right before practice I decided to put a new set of Lightspeed footpegs on my new 13 KTM 450sxf. As I took off the first stock peg the spring came flying out and tagged me hard in the leg. When I removed the other side I stepped back and let'er fly. Tongue When I put on my new pegs they slid right on like a glove. No issues at all. Right there with the drizzling rain and all. The reason it was so easy? Perfect Lightspeed fit..........and they use a Yamaha footpeg spring.Whistling

I always used the Tie-wrap method. Still amazes me that I still have all 10 fingers.

I will remember that youtube vid for next time.
