My son is just about out of his cr85. He has ridden his friends cr125 and is definitely ready to make the leap.

I was looking for some opinions as to which bike may be better. The KTM is a 2009 (leftover, new at dealer) , but I don't think the technology has changed that much.

He would like a KTM and they are both about the same price.

Thanks for any opinions

they say the ktm's pull super hard. pretty much the yz125 is the same since 07. i may be wrong but i think ktm has been at lest putting in effort on their 125 lineup. ktm probably better. and i ride a 04 yz125 that i love once he gets up to speed on the 125 you can put a 143 kit in it and bump it up a notch also.

Get the KTM 150 (I've been to the shop you're talking about, Hanover Powersports). KTM has been making their 2 strokes better every single year. I race an 07 KTM 144 and I love it. The KTM also comes stock with MUCH better equipment. The Yamaha hasn't changed in ages like sec114 said.

KTM hasnt' had 125's in the States since 08 by the way. If you have any more questions let me know, I've been on KTM's for 16 years.

ktm,

If we were to get the 150, he would have to really jump in class, wouldn't he.

Why would it say 2009 125sx if they haven't been in the US since 2008? Is this something I need to watch for?

Thanks

The KTM 144SX outsold the 125SX, and by a much larger margin than KTM had expected. I'm not sure how much the new(er) rules allowing up 250CC two strokes to race in the 125 (now 250) class played a role in KTM's decision to no longer import the 125SX to the USA.

There's nothing to watch for. Get the KTM, 125 (if you can find one) or 150. You'll be happy with either one.

Thanks Fish,

We picked up the 09 125sx for his birthday next week.

Can't wait to see the look on his face when he sees it.

If you are 5' 7" you will do fine on a 125 or 150.

Taylorsurf:

He is about 5'8 now and is really comfortable on it. This is his third year and probably his last on this bike.

Just remember, there is more to selecting a bike than size and weight. It took him a couple of months to really go from his 85 to 125, but once he learned how to handle the bigger bike, he became a much better rider/racer
