So you're confident in asserting that the double-digit number of concussions that James has suffered aren't somehow affecting his performance BUT in the same breath you're also saying that those who disagree with you are wrong because they aren't Doctors?

Do you see the irony here?
You sir should read what I posted again. Let me sum it up for you.... His head injuries isn't as bad as a football player or a boxer for those who are saying its worse. Because doctors have proven so. If he is able to practice sx for hundreds of hours like alreadysstated... my opinion is his head is fine.

And I just drove through Lubbock twice in 3 days. Lol.

I think wardys talking from his own experience, js7 is not any slower , he just might not concentrate as well as he used to, and going the speeds that he does can expose his lack of concentration sometimes.

And you are? You might want to do a little research before you make an uneducated and uninformed statement like that. A concussion is a concussion regardless how you get it whether it be playing football, hockey, boxing or motorsports. It's ignorant posts like yours that show who the real vitards are.

So... Getting a concussion then going back on the field and getting hit for another hr or 2 and getting a concussion and getting knocked out in round 2 and then getting up and getting knocked down several more times is the same as getting a concussion and going home to sleep? It does the same amount of damage to your brain huh? Tell that to Muhammad Ali you jack off.

And if you could fucking read. I never claimed it wasn't the same. My post was towards the dumbasses saying that slamming in mx is worse than any sport mentioned and I said its not worse. And Im educated. But never claimed to be a doctor. I'm telling ur stupid ass what doctors told me. Go do a little research on how to interpret a paragraph jackass.

Getting a concussion then going back on the field and getting hit for another hr or 2

The clock on an NFL game is 60 minutes, where are you getting the extra hour? The actual playing (action) time isn't even a quarter of the actual game time (60 minutes). The average game has 12:36 seconds of action.

and getting a concussion and getting knocked out in round 2 and then getting up and getting knocked down several more times

Once an opponent is knocked out (KO'd) the match is over, how do they go back for more?

Please tell me more..........

Don't watch football... I was referring to how long the games were on. Shoukdnt have been that hard to get.

And I meant to put knocked down but my phone has an auto correct.

And actually I've seen ppl get knocked out and hit the ground and it wakes them up and then they get up. Just get on YouTube and you will see the same. Just cuz you didn't stay on the ground snoring doesn't mean you didn't get knocked out. But hell I'm just an amateur boxer. Not a pro. We wear headgear to help prevent getting knocked out.

No reason for you to be such an ass, precautions have been in place for other sports for awhile unfourtunatly not to help someone like Ali or some of our NFL heros. Mainstream sports have been doing baseline testing and holding players out as a precaution for some time now so they aren't getting back out and getting hit for another hour or two. MX/SX just started it this year so they don't have a lot of data to go from but if you go back to just this season and look at the riders that were held out for more than a few races because the baseline testing showed that they could cause more severe damage if they suffered even a slight blow to the head. The baseline testing is the same that is used for football, hockey ect.... I'm pretty sure that Travis and Broc Hepler would have had longer careers if they were held out for a period of time for recovery. I'm not saying that racers are more susceptible to concussions than other sports but when they do suffer a head injury it can be just as severe as any other sport and we are just starting with a medical policy to hold these guys out when it does happen.

Yeah, that's what they call a "knockdown".

And once a fighter is "knocked down" a certain number of times he will lose to a T.K.O. If he fails to make the count it's counted as a K.O.

From reading through all of this, this Wardy guy must be pretty new to the sport. Anyone know anything about him? He got any credentials?

If travis pastrami can pull double flips and make it to the top if rally with his extensive, documented history of head trauma im 100% sure james is fine.

That believe the hype kid has rung his bell a fuckton of times as well. Like. A lot.. He ran up front all summer as well.

Gtfo wardy
This on alot of levels.... fyi guys your going faster in rally cars than you can imagine on a dirtbike.. soo pastranas concussion would affect his ability to drive no?

Soo this leads me to believe james is fine.
Also who says all of his crashes resulted in concussions? Was wardy or any of you guys there when he got reviewed?

Soo if all of James crashes resulted in concussions. That means various riders of the past all have a ridiculous amount of concussion.

Lusk- crashed hard and a ruthless amount of times
Rc- at massive shit often but its swept under the rug
Albertyn
Grant langston
Etc... so many riders that crashed hard at about the same amount of james

Soo I'm guessing all riders are done and get concussions every time they crash

I respect the older riders/ champion's opinions but i feel/ know wardy is wrong on this and so are alot of you posters

I just get the feeling when i read threads like this some of you guys just want james to retire... for what reason i have no clue.

Correct but if you black out and lose control of all functions of the body and then bam ur head hits the canvis and it snaps you back into it. Your were knocked out until the canvas woke you back up. That's all I was saying. Anywayz...

That's pretty impressive if a guy with brain damage can win four straight motos against Dungey, Daytona on an insanely technical mud track, the Oakland SX and numerous heat races, imagine what he would be doing without it.

Wardy may be right, but my guess would be taking 3 years off from the outdoors caused the other riders to catch up on speed, and he is having to push harder than in the past. He also crashed a lot racing with RC.

When James was on a 125 NO ONE could consistently match him.....he could sprint a little and set the cruise control...you had the occassional Roncoda battle but that was it....then after Ricky was gone he went 24-0....at that time he could back it off as well...move to 2011....a whole handful of guys that can run close to(not quite as fast) his pace so he can't back er down....this is out of his comfort level...he's not good holding it wide open for 20 laps....IMO only two guys ever have been....RC and RV...

That makes no sense...

And either does this really... Don't get me wrong, i think James isn't as good as he was but without having any facts to work on this is just conjecture and talk by someone who's team member's have to race him...

Seemed to make sense to RC
With what we are learning about head trauma now we are finding out that what we knew just 10 years ago was very wrong.
I would not be surprised to find that Wardy's comments are 100% spot on. And to say because he is not a doctor or part of James's team that he cannot make an assessment of James's condition is just as ludicrous. Of course the closer to his circle the better the assessment, but that's what Wardy does, observe and assess. Him and many others observe, try to figure out what's wrong, make adjustments, and repeat till your rider goes faster. If he sees James unable to handle situations like he used to, it's a very likely conclusion to make. And given what we are finding out about head trauma now, the new information seems to be right in line with his (Wardy"s) conclusion whether we agree with him or not.
TM
You completely missed my point about working harder and harder...

The work hard thing will help out for a bit, but as JT$ has said many many times, RC telling everyone he just outworked them, is kinda dumb... RC was lapping JT when they were on 50s and 60s... and he was a fat little shit then, don't think he was outworking anyone, he was MORE TALENTED.

Wardy says stuff like he just wants it more, he works harder... Really?!? Did Dungey out work Alessi this year or is he just MORE TALENTED than mike, able to ride faster?! I'd say Alessi works every bit as hard as everyone else, but he isn't a good as rider...

Go the other way... Ronny Lechien, Jason Lawrence and Marty Tripes all did loads more than 99% of the people on the planet, supposedly whilst being stoned, bent, drunk or plowing more pussy than there was time to do...

Work will only get you so far...

I think this has a lot more to do with it than people realise... He was so used to smoking people when he was coming up the pressure is always what got him...

Alessi is the same... Can't go forward cause he had a life of holeshotting and cruising...

Polar opposite is RV, rode all his life in juniors scrapping away, now rides every lap as a pro like it's the last lap of a championship...

A ton of pro riders have crashed a lot - the same thing that Ward said about James could be said about many many racers. James gets way more focus put on him and everybody thinks they have a right to shoot their mouth off, but it's a hell of a lot different for a team owner in the sport to say something like that than some nobody posting on this board. If Ward wants to talk generally about head injuries in the sport, fine, but to single out James that way was EXTREMELY unprofessional and really a douche bag move for someone at his level.

Who's keeping track of how many times guys who aren't shown on TV constantly have hit their head?? Who are all the other riders who Ward thinks should not be racing because of how many times they have hit their head?? Oh right, he has no fucking clue because the camera is always on James. If a guy who used to finish 16th starts finishing 28th, is Ward looking into the possibility it may be because of too many crashes? is he looking into if the guy gets dizzy when he falls over? Is he going to suggest that Trey Canard gets "scanned" since a motorcycle basically landed on his head, on top of numerous bone-breaking injuries?

Can you imagine if some other team owner started saying that kind of stuff about another top rider?? - Wouldn't happen. For some reason these guys think they have the right to try and tear down James Stewart, cause he's so popular and such a star, Just like they all do with Tiger Woods in golf.

Ward is a complete fucking clown for making that statement in a published, public forum like that.

to write his ass off for the first year on a suzuki is just plain stupid...down right ignorant

He rode a 2 stroke-likely knows nothing about current technology in SX MX racing.

You guys mean to tell me that all those 30-40mph head slams into the ground Stewart has taken hasn't affected his brain? And that they are nowhere near what an NFL player or fighter has taken? What the fuck do you think his brain is doing in his skull when he is blitzing the whoops and hitting these massive jumps? Let alone when he crashes. It's rattling his brain around in his skull agitating all the injured parts of the brain. Let me ask you this, how many times have you hit your head? Especially mellonHead.
I had a good friend die of a brain injury back in 1999, he had a pretty bad mx crash (probably nowhere near what Stewart has endured) and was knocked unconscious, the doctor told him to wait to ride for about two weeks. Well, he waited the two weeks and the first time he got back on his bike he was railing a corner (he didn't crash) and his injured brain being jarred around in his skull from the forces of riding caused the concussed part of his brain to bleed badly spurring a major stroke (while riding) he plopped over in that corner and tried to get up then passed out. Chris never woke again, he remained in a coma for about a week before they pulled the plug after the majority of his brain slowly died over that following week. This was on a very healthy 24 year old who had never had a concussion in his life. This is an extreme case but it shows how fragile the brain is.
Mellon, spewing off like Stewart wouldn't have any negative effects from all of his crashing is the most ludicrous statement of ignorance I've heard in a while.

However, I am still not completely giving up on James yet, but the odds are against him with the combined disadvantage of aging, multiple concussions and the comp getting faster, his window of opportunity is shrinking rapidly and this year will be a strong indicator of what is to come in the short term for James.

I like James a ton, and he brings a very important flair to our sport. That being said, he was always best when he was surrounded by the best, and by that I agree with bents: Losing Aldon = no bueno, Losing Brooks = well I think no bueno there too. When James wants to go do things his way it doesnt always translate into great results. Hes not exactly Pastrana, he cant just go be great at something else. He needs to get militant with this training and approach and he can still do very well. I am rooting for him to win 2013 for sure but I feel its a long shot now if he dont turn into Rocky Balboa and go to Russia and start lifting logs and running in the snow kind of mentality. Walk away from the plush things that comes with the money. All that is there to enjoy later. I will say he has done enough that if he cant feel he can win then just hang it up and have fun living. Lord knows back in the day he and his family really did sacrifice EVERYTHING to get him there. True USA success story. Im a HUGE fan but almost a bigger fan of Aldon Baker in a way and not just because we are good friends, he brings his "A" game all the time.

I don't think the NFL etc. head injuries can be compared to moto. No offense, but traveling 30-50 mph to a dead stop isn't comparable. Not to mention getting back up and going 50 hitting jumps, scrubbing and making decisions on the fly. Theres a big difference between standing still and making decisions in those conditions. Dumb.

I cannot believe that you newbies are not aware that all questions of a medical nature concerning James Stewart should be directed to me and I will answer them in the order received, at my earliest convenience.

Many of you people would rather see James on fire and given a gasoline blanket than race a motorcycle. It's sad.

I don't understand how some people can say James is used to just checking out from everyone and can't handle the pressure of being right in front of or right behind someone and battling the whole race. How quickly we forget that James was either right in front of or right behind RC for several seasons and was was passing him and being passed several times in one lap. James can handle the pressure.
