Im surprised no one is talking about this.
Biggest news I see is that Ken Roczen might be able to squeak in the top 10 to get his 94, he just needs 7 points on Millsaps which should be doable.
Also no more 75 for Hill

250 SX points DO NOT count for combined points. AGAIN- 250 SX points DO NOT COUNT.
thanks for clarifying Barcia's 51
About that.
It "seems" that this year (2012) 250 SX points DO count towards national numbers..a change was made in the rules. I'm having trouble 100% w/o a doubt clarifying this for NEXT season and not for 2014 but it looks like this is the case. So, I'm working on a revised chart for a rule that has been changed that was in place for 27 years.
JT$ said that was not going to start until next year.
So is it starting this year or next?
I understand the branding part of it but with riders continuing to score just enough points to keep their number for another year it is pretty stupid. A rider's name was good enough branding for a long time before they went to this system.
Some riders that have only a few stellar seasons should be allowed to run the "earned" number the next year to showcase their accomplishment.
If the reasoning behind the semi-permanent system is because the confusion that comes with yearly changes, Several years before they went to the new system I can remember quizzing a 3 or 4 year old Brett Cue at the Dallas SX that year as to several of the riders and their new "earned numbers" and he didn't miss a single one. Yes he was pretty hip for a kid that age though.
I also remember questioning DC about it on the old Motonews board about, and he did say several of the riders were in favor of it at that time. I bet the majority of those were top ten riders though, and didn't want to elaborate on it as to which ones were in favor of it at the time.
Let them run what they earn, it seemed to work really well for a long time.
Of course this is just my opinion, and you are welcome to yours as well.
The total combined points from the Supercross,
(Supercross Lites for 2013 numbers), MX 450 and MX
250 classes will be used to determine the order. National
numbers are then issued according to highest to lowest total
points. In case of riders having the same amount of total
points the tie is broken by the best Moto finish for those
riders. In the event you have a rider that rode just SX and
one that rode SX and Motocross, the tie would go to the
rider that rode both series
This isn't NASCAR... how long until a team "owns" a number for their riders? Going by MXerDW's list, Barcia should be able to run #2 next year! THAT is an accomplishment, not earning just enough points to squeek by on a rules loophole.
I like guys like Brown and Dowd still racing, but they should run what they earned latley, not 11 years ago.
Pit Row
1) Only MX and 450SX champs get to pick a perm number, no top 10 finishes, nothing else. Champs only.
2) 250SX Half points towards a number. There has to be some reward for that grind.
3) Retired (or semi retired) champs get 2 years grace, then have to earn 1 point a year to retain.
Or.... Return to the old system where the champs wear #1, and the rest run what ya earn.
If the champion points out of the 250 SX class or they move up after winning a 250 MX championship, then they run what they earned on their 450. If the 250 SX champ wants to ride the opposite coast, then they run what they earned. Beyond that is the random 3 digits. Old school style...straightforward, no grandfathering, no exceptions, no 25 points to keep a number, no top 10 career numbers, run what you earned unless your the champ in that class.
I could put a list of how I think it will end, but its just a guess.
