Can I ask you a question? How close were you to the track? At glen helen they put those ugly chain link fences around the track but at least you get so close sometimes you have to duck the roost. To me that white fencing is a fail.

Also, fans never complained about HIKING up mount saint helens so why spend a billion dollars on concrete walk ways? It's cool for guys in wheel chairs and pit tooties in high heels but for me it's a fail.

No i buy the popcorn at the moviesTongue I just heard a few comments about the food and drinks (mostly the beer) being expensive. so I tried to crack a funnyWink sorry if it didn't work. The cases of water and Gatorade i went through were good enough for me though.

That GP was also held on a holiday weekend here in the States with no top US riders that attended. Poor planning.

BTW: Been attending Nationals for a good 35 years now. As a general rule, no matter what part of the country they hold one, the attendance is always in the 20K range - been this way since the beging of time give or take. Anything less is an epic failure. And to add insult, 95% of the people that attended the race today said it sucked for viewing as a spectator. No reason to sugarcoat this fact. It is what it is.

That's why I always love it when the SX series moves east. Nothing against true fans on the left coast, but when you move east the fans are just so pumped to be at the race.

Ontario, California is probably only 30 miles from the Lake Elsinore. The OP feels the need to come on here and complain about the attendance, but didn't get off his lazy fat ass and show up for the race himself. Guess what dude, you are part of the problem.

Thanks for the support, good and bad here. You guys would be surprised by how much motivation one can find in doubt... This event and track had so many things going against it that it was easy to work extra hard out here, and the owners of Lake Elsinore are just as motivated and excited about making it better and better as everyone involved in the series is. I think they are in it for the long haul.

The event was very successful as far as the crowd goes; the local paper's educated guess would put it slightly over 20K. There were so many people that it caused some stumbles on will call, crowd control and pit security, all of which can happen when more people show up than anyone planned.

For a first-time event, I thought it was pretty cool, but it was also hard work and we learned a great deal that we will fix for 2013 at Lake Elsinore. I think the track was too big -- that extra 30 seconds meant 20% more watering, plowing, bannering, workers, flaggers, etc., and it mean less laps for the fans to see the leaders -- and we learned a great deal about the soil from the moment the first guys rode on Wednesday (RC and the Dirt Rider crew). Parking, set-up, fan access, spectator flow -- all of those will be studied and improved as well. Nothing I can do about the weather -- it's outdoor motocross and it takes place at the end of summer, during the day.

there's this little town just south of me....i think it's referred to as "carlsbad".

rumor has it they used to hold those motorbike GP thingies over there and as the story goes, lots of people showed up.
some alphabet-named company (ABC maybe?) even thought enough of it to come out and film it.

probably just a rumor though.

If I moved back to SoCal I would def. move to the Lake Elsinore area. The housing isn't that expensive and it is centrally located. Within an hour or less of all the great tracks, within an hour or so to 4 sx races, not a ton of traffic and right smack dab in the middle of the MX/SX Mecca. Friggin' beautiful place, and most of the factory riders live a few mintues away. I thought Elsinore was a fun track, the soil wasn't great but the vet track was the shit! Really fun.

Regardless of what the locals think of the track in the past, I think that when a championship comes down the last race and I have a chance to see it live, I'm there!

Those that saw it live, the 1st 250 moto was a defining moment.
