Just noticed that Villopoto was the only rider to dip into the 2:05's today with a 2:05.982 compared to the fastest 450 rider ( Stewart ) with a 2:06.435. If he can post faster laps aboard a 250f than Stewart on his 450F, just imagine how fast he'll be on a 450 when he races one next year outdoors. Bubba ain't gonna stand a chance if Villopoto's that fast outdoors on a small bore.

Uh, it is just practice. Not saying Villo is not fast, but there is a big difference in practice and racing.

While Stewart NEVER set lap time faster than Carmichael in 2004, he did put in laps within a second or less than Carmichael. Stewart was on a 125 and Ricky was on a 450.

We all assumed the same thing you are. If Bubba can get that close on a 125 to RC's 450 then he would kill RC on a bike the same size. Well, we know how that theory played out. You just can't speculate like that in racing. History tells us that in this sport over and over again.

depending on track conditions, weight is now the limiting factor on these bike. a modded 250f is pretty much enough power for a good rider, the extra torque and power of the 450 is not going to overcome the weight disadvantage they have.

so for nationals really the 250fs are the premier class as far as speed goes, 450s are the slower and harder to ride class.

villo would actually be slower on the 450 on a rough track

Yeah and Stewart probably has a couple extra gears even.

He's just doing what he needs to do.
If he had to go faster he probably could.

Hey! don't get yer panties in a bunch, I was just pointing out that you guy's are correct. It is possible for a lites rider to once in a while post a faster time than a 450 rider. James did it a couple times against RC and Villopoto is doing it against Stewart.

I posted pretty much the same as you in the other Villopoto thread.... Lap times don't mean anything.

You need to look at the time differences between the two practice sessions. Ryan's time in the second session, went signifigantly slower than the first session, where James' time in the second session only went .06 seconds slower.

James always says that he likes when the track gets rougher, and I'm thinking that is what happened between the two sessions.

Well! James certainly didn't like it when the track got rougher when RC was out there did he. He usually ended up on his head trying to match his pace.

Most of the time the 450 riders post faster times outdoors than the lites riders, because of the horsepower disadvantage a lites bike has against a 450 on a long outdoor track. Once in a while a really fast lites rider manages to post a lap faster than the fastest 450 class rider. Bubba managed to do it a couple times against RC and Villopoto is doing the same thing against Stewart. It's been one of the oldest wives tales on the internet that Stewart on a 125 was consistently faster than RC on 450. While there were a couple times when he did post a faster lap, RC was faster 99% of the time. Villopoto is the same, he posts lap times faster than everyone in the 450 class, except Stewart, BUT! once in awhile he beats him to.
