Are you joking? There are plenty of good options out there. LIke anything, sometimes you get what you pay for. Personally I have four pairs of boots, but I always keep my eye out for the "next" pair. My only advice would be to stay away from the entry level stuff if you ride pretty seriously. Currenly I wear sixsixone "Flight" boots and have been happy with them. I would stay away from ones such as Thor "Quadrants" the lower level Alpinestars, Fly and the entry level fox stuff. Sounds like you already got suckered into the Tech 7's. Gaerne SG12's (or 10's) are a pretty nice boot. Fox came out with the "instinct" boot. All of the ones mentioned are pricey, but hey, look at the alternative.

spoken like a true douche bench rider. especially when your "first tire change" was 5 months ago.

Ouch. Must be sensitive.

Tech 8 is a good boot. Maybe a little heavy. I'm on my 3rd pair.
Fox F4 is ok too. A lot lighter than my Tech 8's. I had to buy a pair when I forgot my Tech 8's at home.

Gearne 10 or 12. Alpinestars have gone down in quality in last few years. While most probably wear decent, others don't. My last pair didn't, I won't go there again until I hear of better things from them.

I had a couple pairs of SG10s and now use SG12s. Might try SG10s again next. I always see guys using a hammer to close the buckles on their Alpinestars, then they have to use duct tape once the buckle breaks. Would like to try a pair of Sidis, but then again I've been so happy with Gaerne's.

I have this question posted already but I'll ask you here. What size shoe do you wear compared to the SG12 boots. I wear 10.5 shoes and 11 Alpinestars and want to know what SG12 size to get.

I have one pair of SG12 in size 11 and also a pair of tech 10 in size 11 but i wear, just like you, 10.5 in my normal street or running shoes. It feels like the SG12 has a little more space around the foot than the T10, if you know what i mean? They are pretty much the same in sizing lenghtwise but they fit a little different on your foot. I went with the same size as my Tech 10 and it turned out just fine.

jarret.stephen: Since you allready are on Astars, why not upgrade to a pair of Tech 10?

With the exception of the new Fox Instinct boot, I've tried them all and the Gaerne SG12 is by far the best boot I've ever had. They are very durable, comfortable and safe. Since A Stars are not made in Italy anymore, IMO their quality/durability as dropped drastically. I used to wear an 11 in A Stars but the Gaerne boots seem to run a little larger in size so I have size 10's(one white pair and one black). With Fox MX socks on the 10's fit great. Good luck

Sidi SRS. Had mine since Dec. 2007, I had to replace the soles once in that time and that is it. They feel broke in already when new. Hands down the most comfortable boot out there so far for me. i have tried them all except the new fox hinged boot.

My Fox F3's have been decent. Soles wore out at an average rate- nothing a cheap resole cant fix. Buckles are still reliable after a few years (using as my spares). all other materials have held up really well. Cant go past a sub-$300 boot for what it offered. was good enough for RC and Bubbs and the FC team until they started wearing that Alias stuff (sigh).

LOL, those guys would have raced in Timberlands if they were told to. Where are you getting re-soles done? I priced it up to re-do a pair of my SG10s last fall and it wasn't enough of a savings versus just getting a new pair.

I ran into the same thing on with Gaerne. I've had three pairs of Tech 8s, all in size 12 and recently tried the Gaerne SG-12 (in size 12), had to sell them after a ride and buy some size 11s. On another note, I've had two pairs of Fox F3 boots and they run super tight in a 12. My next pair will probably be Tech 10s, just because it seems like Astars fits my foot best in a 12 and the other two companies don't offer an 11.5 or 12.5 respectively. I would like to try Sidi at some point, but there isn't anyone that stocks them locally and I don't won't to mail order them and get the wrong size.

Good call on not ordering the Sidi's, their sizing is all over the place, the pair I bought in 07, was an 11 and fit perfect, I bought another pair on a rider support deal through cycle gear, that were also 11's and they were too small. only difference was the newer pair was black, my old ones were white. They were most likely mis labeled because I could barely squeze my foot in them. Guy I ride with just bought a pair, and had to send them back too, they were too small. He only needed a half size bigger though.Once you get a pair that fits though, it is hard to wear another brand. I bought a pair of Tech 7's to ride woods with and they SUCK compared to the sidi's.
