Loretta Lynn Fan camping

Edited Date/Time 7/19/2012 3:36pm
Going to Loretta's this year with my son. I called and they said no reservations are needed to camp and there will be room. Just wondering if it is difficult to find a spot for a tent, we won't be arriving until Wednesday. Thanks.

You won't have any trouble finding a place to put up a tent. Make sure the spot is shaded throughout the day, because its hot in a way you can't appreciate until you've experienced it. Last year they had free showers set up at various locations.

if you can ... arrive early or you could be camping a mile from the track. I try to roll in on Thursday morning and stay along the creek.

Stay AWAY from the main roads as kids on Golf Carts (And drunk adults leaving the beer tent at 2am) will be driving around all hours of the night with bright lights affixed to them that will wake you up EVERYTIME they amlessly drive the roads while they love just hanging out.

Also, find high ground for two reasons... 1) it will rain at some point! 2) the fumes from the 1300 generators will settel in low lying areas and kill you! Nearly happened to me the first night a couple years ago while camping down near the river behind the spectating area after the first turn.

how easy is it gonna be to get in and out once you are parked? I don't have a rig, just a van.

depends .... are you camping or hoteling? You have to pay for camping and get a sticker for 1 vehicle. If your hoteling it there is an area for day parking.

I got the facility permit, doesn't that include my vehicle? and I"m camping, I'm bringing a tent just in case, but hopefully staying with other people that have motorhomes. I'm just wondering how much of a pain in the ass it will be to get in and out if I need to run to walmart or whatever. I'm guessing it will depend on where I'm parked, but are there spots where you're pretty much stuck, or can you get in and out from pretty much anywhere

If you know someone racing get them to get you an extra vehicle sticker. Then you have somewhere to park, leave golf cart etc.

You will be fine, all the spots are capable of getting in and out pretty easy

I guess I posted in the wrong thread, I'm racing the event. My question wasn't about the permits and all that, just on how easy(or hard) it is get in and out with a van, or if you stuck there once they park you.

Area 3 can be hell to get into or out of when it is wet. Things might have changed but i doubt it.

It's not hard, we usually leave a few times each day

Depends on where you park. A lot that come and go each day park on the side of an access road near the creek. It's shaded and they do a pretty good job of keeping the roads watered, plus you can come and go as you need to.

If you get there early and park where someone else can squeeze in, they will. We were blocked in all week last week but didn't mind since we were staying until Saturday.

You should not have a problem getting in an out when ever you want in a van. With a big camper and trailer, it may be more difficult depending on where you park. The main road into Loretta's is a public road, and clear all the time. The US Post Office in Hurricane Mills is at the end of the road across from Loretta's old house, was still a functioning Post Office. You're not allowed to ride on that road with golf carts or unregistered vehicles, but they have a couple places for those vehicles to cross it that are monitored by security for traffic control. People come and go all the time, no problem. Just don't park where someone can block you, and no problem. Be sure you have your passes or stickers to prove you paid before you leave, so you can get back in. We had friends that stayed in a hotel come each day . There were a lot from our area that were there racing, and they came to watch. So they brought us whatever we needed each day. I think a little scooter that can be registered legit, would be great there. You can get anywhere to get things, and use it in the pits too, and don't take much room in the trailer. have fun.

I guess I"ll be in one of the hook-up spots, are some better than others? Do I still have to show up super early to get a good one or are they all in a good location?
