a pic from 2010 when I had conventional froks on it. I loved these forks but I kept blowing fork seals so I took them off & bought a set of used kit stuff & had Factory Connection redo it for me. [/img]

Digger, I'm in the process of fixing my son's '08 RM250. He loves that bike. We bought it new,and I've been waiting for this, the frame cracked on the tube by the engine mount. Also a crack in the gusset where the steering tube and the main frame and the down tubes meet. We had RM85's and broke the frames several times. Once, Suzuki even sent us a brand new one free. I was interested to know why you had the welds re-welded with a brand new bike. His frames never broke at the welds, always broke the frame tubes themselves. I have the frame stripped down and ready to be welded and powder coated, and was looking for some input on your experience with the welding and coating before I do it. I've been thinking about reinforcement in areas but not sure of what do do. I'm also wondering if after powder coating it if it will be more difficult to see if a crack develops, as I have never powder coated anything before. If you can help, I would be thankful.

I bought my Excel yellow rims on Ebay for $200 front & rear. I stole them :-)

I loved the 96-98 Conventional RM forks for outdoors!

I've thought of doing the same thing my new RM 250....you can find those forks cheap on ebay. How much work is it to mount them?

factory yellow or the off gold, google?, or send me a message and i can give you some info.

check the bazaar section my rmz is in there for sale, i think those are the wheels your looking for! Yellow factory excels with talon hubs.

Any yellow rim with 36 holes will work but steer clear of the really cheap ones cuz they way are too soft & will bend too easy. I have YELLOW (not gold) Excel rims on the wheels that I built with the Talon hubs & I have yellow Pro Wheels rims laced to my stock hubs that I turned down on a lathe & then polished & powdercoated black & made kind look like works or Talon hubs but I have noticed that I have definitely bent those rims way easier than the Excels which still look like new.

WPark89, yes the 96-98 conventional forks were awesome on outdoor tracks because I raced the 96, 97 & 98 RM250's. It is a really easy swap to do BUT if you're really going to do this PLEASE only use the 1998 125 or 250 forks cuz they were the lastest from Showa & had all the cool updates & basically share the same internals as our modern upside down Showa's plus the parts for them are much easier to get & the 98's had the least amount of underhang below the axle. The 96 & 97 have almost 2" of underhang & the 98's have like 3/4" which really comes into play on a heavily rutted track. I bought mine on Ebay for $125 & RG3 said that they looked like brand new & really only had a few hrs on hrs on them. I had a local machine make me some aluminum collars that dropped into to my stock clamps to take of the space of the smaller upper slider & I was able to use my stock 07 front wheel & spacers & axle & front brake assembly. It really couldn't have been any easier & the forks were so Fn plush & I really hated taking them off but I kept blowing fork seals. The sliders & tubes were perfect & had no marks or scratches on them & we found out well after the fact that I was using some aftermarket seals that really suck & that more than likely they were casing the issue all along. Everywhere I took the bike people were all over me asking questions about how & more importantly why I would ever do that. The forks worked awesome & you won't be sorry if you try a set out. I bought it brand new & took it & stripped to the frame & had it sandblasted & had all the welds rewelded & then we clear powdercoated it so you can see all the[/img] welds. It came out mint. the pics don't show it. you need to see it in person.
I like the clear powder coat. Nice job on the finished product.

Digger29, that looks really cool with the cut side plates. Any problem with them being flimsy because you lose the strengthening outer ridge?

Those were my thougths exacxtly when Ron first said that he wanted to try cutting the side number plates. I had so much plastic leftover in my attic from prior yrs RM250s that I brought him over like 4 sets of plates to practice on. By the 2nd set he already had it down to where he liked the cut & design & he cut the new ones on my bike & they are wicked strong & really by looking at them you can't even tell that they are not stock or come that way. There is a rib that runs all the way around & one that runs right down the center of both plates & those are more than enough to keep them nice & strong.

If you pull up some detailed photo's of Mike Laroccos factory 97 Suzuki, you could probbaly see the aluminum brace he ran just well enough to have a machine shop make one for you. THAT would be T-Rick.

At a minimum you should order the 97 front nuumberplate with the integrated fork guards.

Here, this is not a good ohoto, but look up in there. They also cut the back of his front fender off, then ran a small "fender" on the back of the brace that sort of hugged the front tire.



Ask TBlazier to scan his magazine of the 1997 DAytona Supercross from MXA. if memory serves me correctly, that is the feature where they took detailed photos of that brace he ran on those forks, while MC jut switched back to the USDs.

Do you have a picture showing exactly where hit cut them? i only have a pair of number plates and i would love it to be good the first time around.

What are the measurements for each side from each point to where its cut? And what did you use to cut it?

I traced mine from my RMZ250 side panels and then used a small angle grinder to cut it.

What year rmz plates did you use to trace? The newer model (2010-onwards) and could you post a photo so i can see how it looks?
