I just read the review in Cyclenews (best mag out there). Pretty cool stuff. Air filter is a slide out flate plate. 30 degree cylinder rotation is a bit odd, though. Catalytic convertor/silencer is huge. It'll be interesting to see how much that thing's going to cost. Anyone know?

The coolest feature their new bikes is the way they run the swingarm pivot right through the countershaft sprocket. It removes chain torque from the equation when setting up the suspension. No more squatting under acceleration, or binding under load.

What's strange is that the testers complained that the bike doesn't squat under acceleration. I thought a neutral ride under acceleration/decceleration was better. Remember the ATK's had that pulley system that repositioned the chain so it was parallel with the swingarm, to achieve exactly this?

Changing a countershaft sprocket looks challenging, however.

Oh, they said there's an alternate power map that increases peak hp by 11hp. The review raved about the motor, but the new handling was questioned.

I bet casing a jump with that bike could be outrageously expensive

i thought it was interesting that they said that aluminum on modern MX bikes does not save weight and that the using the chromo frame was slightly lighter than if they did it with aluminum! no wonder KTM stays Chromo....

I'd kill to see BMW make an MXer. Is that a one piece radiator?

Yeah, it is a one piece radiator. Pretty darn good idea. The thing weighs in at 244 dry, according to the report. Not sure how that stacks up against the CRF450X and WR bikes. The silencer on that thing must weigh 20 lbs.

Suzuki had a one piece radiator in 1981 on the RM125 that was placed in about that spot.
Yamaha had one too, but they mounted it on the triple clamps.

Looks to me like the radiator would take a serious showering off the front tire in the mud.

I do like the license plate frame, awesome.

The one behind the number plate? That was awesome. Laughing

Nah, the BMW isn't perfect, but it's refreshing to see some semi-new concepts in a production bike. I really like the flat filter idea, from a change out standpoint. Not sure how it restricts airflow or the effects of its (likely) smaller surface area.

I believe I had read somewhere that the price was going to be $10,000+

For that price it better come with a skid plate.

That is is the special limited edition with the exclusive 'Yak Fur' seat which is scientifically proven to eliminate monkey butt.

Did they complain about a lack of traction? Having some squat is a good thing from a weight transfer / traction standpoint. The weight distribution can be altered, but since everything is a compromise, that'll have other consequences too.

If nothing else, having new ideas will always improve the end result.

They could use an active suspension system tied to wheel speed and throttle position to soften the rear end under acceleration if it were a major issue.

I have a feeling the testers just thought it felt odd since it behaved differently than what they were used to. It's a major difference and will require a new approach. I was hoping to read the test on their website's digital issue, but couldn't find it in there.
