Listen, the whole story here is, he didn't need it. So why use it and cause your own demise. We ran a stock bike in stock and mod classes before in LL regionals ,and won both of them. The bike came with stock pipes, use them in the stock class. No mercy here from me. With or with out that pipe, he would have made it any way. If you can ride your bike you don't need it. They just pushing the edge of the rules, trying to gain what they thought would be an advantage . I never heard of a track having sound testing stuff on hand to keep people from cheating at a regional. Prove your pipe meets the requirements beforehand, if it's important to you to run it. This is stupid. Argue the rules before you play the game. Then play by them. Just more LL crap.
I'm going to have to agree with this. Why not run a stocker, or at least get approval on your after-market muffler before hand?

Isn't it kind of a moot point since he qualified in 3 other classes, and can only run in 2 at LL anyway?

And it had been tested at Millcreek and passed. The issue here is the officials never asked the riders to get their bikes tested at impound after the race or to bring them back. End of story.

Stevada, we had only qualified in two, now just one.

So what I'm reading here is this was 100% bad decision making by the AMA officials on site.

Zero level of responsibility for the rider or familes what so ever.. OK..

It was poorly handled by the officials. I beleive we can agree that the information given to mxguru4 was false as Taylor Holts's mom and Shane McElrath and myself have stated they were never approached in impound or asked to do a sound check.

I will also question the accuracy of a few points in your little investigation post.
I attended the riders meeting (with in 50 ft of the tower), I do not recall any statements about stk class exhaust.

While it is impossible to hear everything over the PA, I did not hear 10 minutes of info about sound and stock class, I did hear Larry constantly plug the venders (try the butter pecan ice cream, btw, it is great).

I doubt they had sound testing equipment and offer tests to anyone asking. Shane (and I will assume taylor and Josh) did not change their set-ups for the third moto so how easy would it have been to have the db reader waiting in impound and pulled them immediately aside and tested them. It should take less than 5 minutes a bike....15 minutes and everything is resolved.

The riders did nothing wrong, they showed up at a race with what was legal equipment. (and nobody has proven otherwise).

this was just handled very poorly. Some days you wake up and step on your own dick, this past weekend the Red Bud officials stepped on their own dicks!!!

Only Shane qualified in 3 classes. He was already planning on going to the Mill Creek regional, so he will have the opportunity to add 250B stk and collegeboy to the current 3. It is good to have options for Loretta's.

The other 2 only qualified in 2 classes (now 1). Josh (Osby) only attempted in 250b stk/mod. Fortunately in qualified at multiple regions and can attempt schoolboy in the mideast or north central regions.

Taylor had qualified in 2 classes, and was pulled out of other classes. Fortuantely, he also qualified in the southeast and can go to mill creek. Judging form his results at Red Bud, he is an "on the bubble" racer and will place between 5-10th at another regional. Good luck to Taylor and family and I hope you do qualify in that second class.

Mx bum, thanks for the encouragement. Taylor is riding very well and he can get that second class in but sure would have loved not to travel this weakend and save some money.

Okay guys, I am not a lying cheater. This weekend at Redbud was the first time I have ever ran a slip on in the stock class. However, I had no idea there was any restrictions that came along with running a slip on. Following the 3rd moto, we came into impound, we sat there just as long as any other time. We sat there until the guy dropping the gate came over and asked, "Does anybody have any complaints?" nobody said a word so then he said, "Alright, you guys can go." Unless he is an AMA official there was nobody else in the impound area, and he didn't even look around at anybody. There was no AMA official that looked at our bikes directly after the moto, there was nobody in the impound area period. I don't know where you guys are coming up with an AMA official talked to me. NO AMA OFFICIAL TALKED TO ME ALL WEEKEND... Where it says, "The riders were asked to come back up to do a sound check", the riders were not asked anything. Myself and Taylor Holt (1 of the other 2 riders who were protested) were not even informed of being protested. Taylor was so excited that he had made it to Loretta's in 2 classes, he didn't run any of the rest of the motos. After he had backed out of Collegeboy is when he found out that he had been protested. Nobody ever mentioned a sound check to me, nobody ever told me to bring my bike back up for anything. We were never even informed of being protested until the results were posted. So then we questioned the results and it was then brought to our attention we had been protested. Coming from me, what the AMA official told somebody was false, all this was handled very unprofessionally, and there are still many questions still to be answered. One thing about it... I know who won.
Just shut up and take it. Don't play politics with AMA officials. I can only see it getting to be a snowball effect where every official will have their eye on you at Loretta's for any bogus imperfection.

You're right, you know who won. Keep the thoughts otherwise to yourself so you don't dig yourself a hole.

Or just run the bone stock exhaust. Sounds to me like you don't need a slip on to win!

"Shut up and take it".

So the kid should just take being called a lying, cheater.
He came here to give his side of the story and hopefully clear up a few statements that were false. (ie no one talked to Shane or Taylor in impound and no one asked either of them to bring the bikes for a sound test).

He (and Taylor) brought legal bikes to Red Bud. Taylor's bike was tested at Mill Creek, and passed. There is nothing wrong with not running the insert in an aftermaket silencer. They are only illegal if they are louder than 94db, and nobody took the time to test them.

I witnessed two people point out to a AMA official that there was a blatant part missing off a stock bike that required this part and the AMA official point blank said "put up the $ or shut up, I can't do anything about it without $".

Which part?
Which rider?

The AMA official was correct. If you want to protest someone, you need to fill out a protest form and pay the protest fee.

As mxbum said there is nothing wrong with running a slip one WITHOUT an insert. It is a sound test not an insert check test.

To be penalized one should have failed a sound test end of story, The whole did they run the insert or not is a moot point if there was never any sound testing.

At our local qualifier, there was an oil tank missing off the bike in the Oil Injection class.... go figure, blatant.

So, my point is can the official make calls or is it only protested by someone putting up $? It sounded like the kids above were decided on by the official, no? So, could the official have made the call by looking where the two people I watched were pointing...

I have heard rumors there was a protest, but who knows. I have been at races before where the offical has said if it's something that can be seen with the naked eye then no $ is required. but if requires a tear down then have your money ready, and he did just what he said when it was pointed out to him someone was running billet hubs in the stock class, DQ no $ put up.

I can't believe they weren't given a chance to sound test. it seems to me this offical didn't even know the rules with the insert. like I said Osby just went with what the FMF guy told them and they are blaming no one but themselves for not looking into it deeper. Josh still has a couple of LLQ's left to get "in" and the way he's been riding he should be ok. crappy deal IMO though.

Team Ideal: I saw that josh is qualifying for schoolboy1 & 2 in 2 regions, so I assume that he is planning on going to the ranch in a schoolboy class and qualifying in the b classes was a backup in case there are issues at the other regionals. Correct?

correct, but now that he's "in" for 250B mod they aren't for sure what he will ride even if he makes both schoolboys. I would assume they would do the SB's becuse he will still have another year in B because of his age. but that's just me assuming and we know what that breaks down to LOL

Board, the track official can make decisions in certain situations.

On track issues, certain other situations where the referee sees something wrong they "can" make a ruling.

If a racer, or parent of a racer points something out, they need to follow the protest guidelines.

As with this situation, and most others, at the end of it all there's a lot more to the story than you read or hear about....
