Ever put bikes on a pop-up camper?

Used to Road Race with one of those and overloaded it with tools etc.
The Tyres Blew out, they are the weak link to the plan,
To Small and underated for the weight.

If the top is reasonably sturdy you could lay down a piece of 3/4" plywood to distribute the weight plus give you something to tie a strap to. Then your only issue is what all that weight is sitting on?

You would have to move the propane tank as well. IF you put them on top, your trailers axles is not made to handle tipping.If windy or tight turn happen, plan on the trailer tipping over and damaging the bikes and your camper. So I would not recommedn this modification going ontop of the camper.
Where can you buy carrier rails? I'm just curious as I have never seen any available anywhere.

Is it too much or unsafe to cut and re-weld the a-frame tongue to accept another 3/4' of space?

I have been a Coleman dealer since the late 80's and I know that to even put a a/c unit on top they required an additional brace installed inside the roof, these roofs were only made of thin aluminum laminated to styrofoam then laminated to ceiling panelling. The best option for this would be to build a rack system from the frame just in front of the box at front and up and over the roof and down to the frame just past the box at the back, it would need to be pinned for removal but it would work. Still though the weight may be an issue unless you upgrade the axle.
Are there any other makes models out there on these older units, where you could possibly transport ?

sylvan sport go trailer. by far the nicest popup style setup i've seen.

they're pricey, but they're ridiculously high quality. really aimed at a multi sport user. can easily rig it to swap between being a motocross/mountain bike/kayaking/road biking/street bike/etc etc carrier in a matter of minutes. also something as lightweight as a toyota prius can pull it well (70lb tongue weight). someone could ditch the moto van or truck, and run a high mpg car and pull this thing quite easily i think....

I'm right off San Juan Road between Tarpey and Aromas Road. We've got a little track here as well that is good fun on the minibikes and big bikes!
