Yesterday you told the GP Riders that they made a bad call. You said that the track wasn't dangerous! I know that you as team manager and Grand Prix organizer where in a difficult position and that you where probably Giuseppe Muppet at the time. Now we are a day later and I see that both of your riders are out with injuries. Shaun Simpson dislocated his shoulder and Michael Leib came together with a back marker and injured his hand! Do you still think that this Mexican Grand Prix was such a great idea and that the riders where talking shit when they said that the track was unsafe?

Bye the way it is lame to put so much pressure on Leib to ride. You made him in one instance the most hated men in the paddock. Dear Dixon you are a backstabber and karma got to you faster than lightning!

I know that I'm a class act and a lovely piece of work! (Sarcasm). But what did I say that isn't true?
Dixon is a whore! He's team manager, Grand Prix Organizer and he if I'm not mistaken he is also the British team manager!

And what does he realize? He organize a Grand Prix where you pay the highest entranced price on the schedule.
He is pro youthstream and everything those asses do are good for him even if thats contra for his riders.

Lets say that YS says that they are going to build looping into the tracks... Dixon would be the first to cheer for that stupid idea!

Wow.

The funny thing is when Emig did the same thing in Vegas you didn't see any bullshit that these so called professionals of the GP circuit did to Lieb and Anstie.

Like Alex said, stay classy.

MXMattii: Why the need to single out Leib, possibly because he's American?? What about the fact Max Anstie also raced? What happened to Steve Dixon's riders is horrible but racing dirtbikes is dangerous.. I was always raised NEVER to wish bad upon someone in life because it will bite you in the ass.

If my employer tells me to do something I do it damnit, because that's my job. Considering Leib is a fill in rider on a quality team @ ZO338 is heading back to America next year do you really think anyone should question his choice to ride?? HELL NO!! I applaud Michael Leib for riding and doing his job.. Says a lot about his character in my eyes, job well done.. Heal up fast @ get back to kicking ass!!

Matti Steve Dixon is a standup member of the paddock who built a successsful team from scratch through more than two decades of unbelievable sacrifice and graft. He provides several riders with a very good income not to mention an army of Mechanics. Yesterday Shaun decided of his own free will that he would sit it out and Michael decided he'd get on with the job in hand. Steve didnt pressure anyone. Like GuyB said - From what I hear Michael went out and did the sight lap, and while it was dusty, he considered it rideable...I was told it was like a normal day at a track in So. Cal., but with sandy corners.

You bang on about a return to the past with GPs well if you think that was unacceptably dusty on saturday you've got a very short memory of how GPs used to be.

Can you remember the last time that almost all riders said that it was UNSAFE and that they wouldn't ride? And dust wasn't the only issue but only one the many issues! The other was that there was at first no medical staff and then they arrived with 1 ambulance! Seems not enough to me! Bye the way those pictures you show are pictures from today. Today they made is sookie wet! Didn't you saw the puddles?

And does this seems like "own choice"?

From @Michael_Leib To all those giving me crap about racing yesterday, I raced because when it was all said and done Dixon wanted me to. I respect him. #Truth

I don't give Leib crap because if his tweet is true he is made to! And Leib has allot to lose: A possible contract for 2013. His position for 2012. Check where I give Leib crap! I only say that Dixon won't be so happy anymore now with that SAFE TRACK!

Sweden was the last time the riders refused to ride I believe Orehova Vas was the name. It was lethal. (92?) I dont believe Mexico was however.

Matti each of these pictures was taken in MX2 qualifying yesterday. I cant actually spot any dust tbh. Perhaps you should have bothered watching it before shitcanning a respected member of the moto comunity. You dont need to be so spitefull in your posts all the time matti seriously.

This on the other hand is real dust Matti and they knew how to crack on with it back then (89)

Seems like allot of racers refused to do the qualification race. How and why exactly is only for them to know who where actually there. I'm sure the riders had a good reason to protest. But all i see is vague rumours and specualtion.
Never seen any official source why they protested.

Also: You can't really compare a 89' race to today's racing. The tracks are allot diferent compared to then and the speed has been gone up tremendously due to the technology.

Not saying Matti is right doing the fingerpointy game but the comparison you are making is a bit slanting imo.

The decision to ride was 100% Michael's. Steve supported whatever decision he made. Michael did the sight lap and decided to race. Michael is on an airplane right now and will elaborate on this more tomorrow. IMHO Steve is a class guy. The crash on the first moto was due to a rider that was 30+ seconds off the pace. If you guys want to complain focus on that..... just Michael's dad saying what I think tomorrow. Also FYI Simpson chose not to ride the qualy race..... Steve supported that too.

The bikes may well be faster but the top speed of modern tracks is in fact a lot lower than back in the 80s. There are shorter straights now and more obstacles on them meaning less acceleration time. Jumps are obviously an issue of concern but they were looked at before the qualifiers. The issue I have with Matti is his eagerness to say spitefull things about a well respected people based on his own ignorant and misguided assumptions. Steve isn't the manager of Team GB anymore as he told the ACU to shove it when they refused to bring Dean Willson over. He layed his balls well and truly on the line over the GP (as no one else would) putting massive pressure on himself and his team in the process. He bankrupted himself over the MXoN in 96and yet Mattis somehow ignorant enough and stupid enough to describe Steve as 'Lame' a 'Whore' and a 'backstabber'. That tells you a great deal more about Matti than anything else.

If a vast majority of pilots decided, spontaneously, to boycott the qualifiers, that's than there were full of very good reasons for that...

For a few details, there is : unfortunately in french, maybe understandable with an internet translator (can be added, at this time, no ambulance...)

Leib isn't racing MXGP after today anyway so having the support of the other riders, when he still thinks it's safe, shouldn't matter to him. He faded BAD at Fermo. He knew it though because he was in SX shape. The Nationals start next weekend. What better way to practice for that than race World Class talent (maybe 15 of them) for 40 minutes at high altitude in the heat? Sure it didn't work out but he was in race mode while everyone else is in practice/test mode.

No ambulance is one thing and again, it was his choice. He didn't feel like he was placing himself in a life threatening position. Is there an ambulance at every practice track you go to every weekend? I bet you still ride though if there's not.

Such big words Calories, if you were there you should have come to see me in person! After 22 years in the GP's we have come a very long way, I don't need to defend my actions they were my opinions based on the facts I had in front of me, I am not a sheep!
Were you at the riders strike in 93 in Boras over the hidden rocks, or when Stefan and co went on strike for 10 mins in South Africa? and nothing went down from either. Did I go on strike for months in my engineering union when we wanted better working conditions? yes! did we loose lots of wages? yes, did we get what we deserved ? yes but it took a lot of hard sacrifices, like no money to pay the morgage, little money for food, real hardship.
I am all for track safety, which is why I had all the dirt at Matterley screened and all stones removed!
Did I think the track was dusty? yes. I did not say anything about it not being dangerous.
The trouble was I was asked 30 seconds after the sighting lap before the guys were due to go on the line! in the 30 minute delay whilst they were watering not one person came to me and said "we are not riding" there was not protest list or anything, riders all had their kit on and went to the line.
I said this was a bad and un-professional way to try to resove this issue and that the riders should have maybe done a parade race as it was live on Mexican TV and stayed in their quali positions. Thus giving the organisers overnight to work the track, then the decision not to race could have been made around the table rather that putting Tortelli into financial suicide. Oh yes the papers and TV announced the Sunday race was cancelled ! I am no Youthstream muppet! but we all need each other, we have nothing if we do not have sponsors, sponsors have nothing if there is no TV or good exposure, then no meney eqauls no wages for riders and it goes back to an amatuer sport, it is a vicious circle but there are better way to achieve results.
It was unfair to put that pressure on Tortelli, I know what he must have put on the line, I am sure he wanted it right, but it is difficult and yes it should have been much better on the Saturday, but we are all in racing because we are passionate about the sport, which is why we all need to work together in a positive way. For safety, for our rights but just in a more co-ordinated way where we know the facts and we know the true concequences.
By the way to wishing riders to get hurt though Karma is truley sick, they both got hurt in racing incidents.
I was man enough to go to the MX1 riders and say the reason I let Michael ride and suggested the parade to them. And yes I allowed Shaun not to go out.
So please come to me the next time you are at a race and tell me what you have put into the sport over the years

So the track was the 100% reason for both crashes?

No. Stuff just happens.. Dixon knows what he's doing and is in the position he's in because of that.

Dixon is a stand up guy and lets face it in life people do what they have to in order to remain in business. Nobody was forced to race and there is always a choice.

Matti's an assclown. Period, 99% of the time.

It sounds like it was tough situation, and probably one could find fault with every camp's reaction when it was going down if one tried hard enough. Including the people here who decided to run with their imaginations about what was at issue without really having knowledge of what actually was going on on the ground.

Sometimes people just do the best they can under the circumstances when it comes to that.

the riders refusing to ride because of the dust on saturday was probably a good call from a safety point of view, the organisers worked very hard and put down a lot of water sunday.Race day there was no problem with dust and thats when both the accidents happened. matti you are a prize dick for calling steve out when one of his riders rode and the other did not,if he had been the one to force them to ride it would of been both.to be fair to michael he probably didn't see to much dust in the qualifier as he was way out front doing his job.I don't think he is the most hated man in the paddock surely thats loungo.Tommy didn't have a problem with him from the tweets sent.

As the article said: It was a few problems over a few GP's that led to this action. The dust and bad track prep was one of them.
They wanted to cancel the quali to give the workers more time to prep the track, and both sides blame eatchother for bad communication and sutch.

Let's hope both sides learned from this and things get ironed out so both parties can go on with the series.

That's very smart to make an example with a picture where only 11 people were racing ... Indeed, the track conditions would be EXACTLY the same if there were 35 people on the track at that time [not]. Also there are another 19 mins + 2 laps to go in 30- 35°C degrees ...

Ha.......

Dangerous?

euro pansies!

If you want to see dangerous, if you want to know what it is like to walk on a razors edge barefoot, If you want to see injuries, then come and race the American Supercross series and/or the practice tracks you have to ride on to prepare for it......

and unfortunately I am not being sarcastic

Not really sure why anyone would want to schedule anything in Mexico. It's our western world's version of Afghanistan.

The general safety issue was almost null & void. As pointed out by people in the other threads there have been many other sporting events held in Mexico recently without any trouble and all the teams agreed to go from the outset. There was little, if any debate about it.

The ONLY issue here was the amount of dust and lack of watering for Saturdays qualifying races. Everything else is largely irrelevant.
