when I pick a refrigerator or a giant flatscreen up at the appliance store? I know it has a price tag hanging on it and that I'll be paying sales tax. But when they add $250.00 or $500.00 at checkout for freight to the store, I'm just wondering what's "fair"? I mean, I realize they have to to make a profit and all.

Oh, and this IS moto related. Gotta have something to keep the beverages cool and something to watch the races on in the mancave.

I hope to god you're making those figures up........... It just depends on where you're getting it. HUGE range in what a place is going to charge. With some brick and mortar places you can negotiate it. Online, shipping could be free.

Check with your local new car dealer and ask him.

I've never bought a TV or large appliance from anyplace that charged an additional freight charge. Sounds to me they're advertising one price in order to be competitive, then adding in "freight" in order to increase their margins. I'd shop somewhere that advertised the Out The Door price.

I am a car dealer and all our units are priced with freight in, although I know lots of the bigger guys in the city will advertise without freight in the newspapers.

I would shop elsewhere, imo

Especially on a fridge

You aren't anywhere near VA are you? I'm moving and getting ready to ditch my mancave fridge in June/July.... it's decked out in old school Honda factory colors. I just need it gone - kegerator apparatus has already been removed.

Well, none of the appliance stores have actually attempted to do that yet but after recently shopping for a dirtbike I figured I should probably expect the same additional "fees" when shopping for other large items.Wink

The only way I'm paying freight is if that bitch is delivered and set up at my house. If I have to pay for gas and exert one ounce of energy, forget it.

There is also the dreaded 'set-up' fee. I'm sure most of us experts on Vital would rather assemble the bike ourselves, but there are a small percentage of buyers who need professional assistance to un-crate the motorcycle.

Shoot, R-racer bought a new bike and had the dealer ship it to him in multiple boxes.

$0.00....run away quickly! unless these products were autos, RV's, or special order items you asked for specifically, then you should never pay any such thing as frieght charges.

It's definitely there, just built in. I doubt they'll ever show it separate from the MSRP. but I wouldn't be surprized if it ranged anywhere from $50 to $100 per unit for transport. it all depends on how many they're shipping at a time and from where to where.

sorry... my guesstimate would be for the fridges. As for sources?? I work in the transportation industry, US to Canada though so that's why it's just a guess.

Freight is a true cost to the dealer, MSRP does not include freight.

You are all paying freight one way or another if you buy at the dealer. You either see it or they hide it in the price and the dealer gets less money.

And these freight fees are in no way credited back to the dealer though maybe "parts incentives"?

There is no kick back from the factory for freight. There is however a small kick back for the fluids and shop supplies. There is nowhere near the mark-up on bikes that most people think. Everyone thinks they should be able to buy a bike at cost because they are winning the local C class. Then they purchase all there parts and accessories online. Tough business.
