Herlings impressed me in the sand big time.
Searle can come across as a bit arrogant at times I'll give you that, but so can Herlings, which Im sure you'll agree. But its common for top class athletes to be confident in themselves, especially when they feel they're on top of their game.
I know that the interview which annoyed you initially was where Searle was pretending not to know who the 'fast dutch sand rider' was... but Searle was obviously playing around. He knows full well what Herlings is capable of and the things both have both been saying in interviews are so Ludicrous that its clear that is just a bit of gamesmanship!
Think of it like this; Searle is one of the oldest and most experienced riders in the MX2 class now and he undoubtedly sees this year as his best chance at winning a title. His main challenger is a very self confident (and exceptionally talented) 17 year old who takes every opportunity to declare himself 'The best sand rider in the world". Thats fine, because he just might be, but its still a pretty bold statement for a 17 year old kid. Searle probably started it to take the piss out of JH's comments and JH is giving as good as he gets in return. There is bound to be a bit of rivalry between the two main contenders for the championship anyway and they're just trying to get under the others skin!
I don't necessarily agree with it, I like riders to show respect to each other as Im sure you do, but it is kind of amusing to watch.
Maybe someone would be kind and translate it to english, my french sucks despite six years of it in school.
I don't want it to be a two horse race, so the more the merrier I say, but I can understand why you don't want the Dutch guy to waste his energy on this this silly vocal battle and lose his focus
