I'd agree about musquin being a contender- musquin and roczen are both ex world champs (well, kens the current champ) so they know how to win titles and will both be fast and consistent- wilson the same, he's champ and knows how to win titles. I'd add rattray to that group too- he will be up there all year, and very consistent.
Baggett will be fast but has yet to prove himself to be consistent- i think he will win a couple of races. I dont think barcia will contend for the title.

I think RD will be alot closer to RV than he was in supercross, alot of people forget just how good dungey is outdoors- it will be close betwween those two. As for the rest of them- cant see anybody else in that group being in championship contention. Hopefully grant will be able to rediscover old form, he's got the talent but its a while since he's mixed it up with those boys at the front. Stewart wont turn up (again)

There is absolutely no way RD and RV will dominate at the MXDN!! I hope one of them can make a race of it with herlings, but i dont think anyone will be able to get near jeffrey round there! Having said that, USA will still most likely win as they have the strongest team collectively. Osborne would be a great pick for the 250 ride

Roczen may be a contender although he has a disadvantage of not riding any of the tracks. In MXON the Americans will have a disadvantage not riding the track. Because the MXON is not a race of individuals, the team will go for the team win and bypass unnecessary risk of riding on the edge trying to beat one individual. That said, I think that either Ryans would be able to beat Herling if the race were an actual 2 motos instead of the MXON format. If Herling's team doesn't have a chance of winning, of course he is going to go for the personal win so he can say he beat an America, but it doesn't really mean much. The MXON team win is the reason for the race.

But if you don't mind, I think I will quote you in my sig to see if you are right.
That could sound a bit like making excuses for any rider, regardless of origin, and discredit a race win for a rider or indeed a decent finish, and while I'm pretty sure that may be the case in the last Moto of settling for a place, with the format of the MXdN things can change in an instant, and the last race obviously sees the most of them, last year saw Pourcel get a puncture while moving up welil, and France's chance of the overall was increaseing,if he'd have progressed further he might of had to go all out for that win,but so might the guy leading ie a USA rider.Paulin went all out and did what he had to win the previous race from Herlings too and it could have proved crucial in the end

The way I see it is a rider can only sit back and consolidate a position if his pit board tells him that's all they need, providing they they have someone doing the maths of course, there are times when teams need every point and particularly in the early Motos when they don't know what's going to happen in the next race or your team mate

When Everts passed Stewart, some say 2nd place would do to take the overall, but a tiring Tedesco was losing places, then he crashed, depending on where he remounted and finished would depend on weather Stewart would have had to win the race or not,Stewart himself nearly crashed in the whoops and that would've been it.Another factor is that Tedesco could've gone down again

Every point counts ,sure its a team event in the end but its made up of individual races that count for the overall, the same as any championship,so riders go to do their best and at the end of the day racers will race I disagree that if Herlings beats the Ryans it won't mean much, unless its not straight up like they crash out, personal wins mean a lot to riders too Smile

You mean you've (part) quoted it, so you can gloat if i'm wrong?! I see you have already started making excuses for if I'm right. Herlings has to be strong favourite for the individual win at the des nations in lommel- but as I said before, I would love it if RD or RV could make a race out of it! It would be cool to see someone take it to Jeffrey in the sand, we saw Roczen try to at Lommel GP last year and come up a little short.

Back on topic, I am really excited about the ama outdoor 250 class this year- i think its going to be the best racing we've seen for a long time! Just hope all the contenders are 100% fit for hangtown!

It will be a difficult decision for Roger picking a 250 rider for the des nations this year!

Team America have plenty of time to learn the track at the MXoN - Roczen has 15 minutes of practice in the Nationals.

Agreed there. I think the 250 class over here will be a little more exciting than your 450 class, but both will be lots of fun to watch for sure. As far as the MXoN, I'll obviously pull hard for the US, but our 250 rider scares me, especially at the sandiest track in the world. This year will be our highest chance of losing since our C team of 09 for sure.
TDeath I like your National predictions a lot but I think at least one of the USA boys will be in the hunt for the title and prefferably JB. And have you not noticed Bam Bam's sand riding skills? I don't think we lose at the Des Nations (yes I am old...lol) because we will still have the strongest team. Come on outdoors!!!!!!

there is- they give an award to the individual class winners aswel as the (more important) team victory awards (thats why everts was on the podium holding a red plate in 2006)

regarding barcia- i dont think he will be in championship contention, i'd say baggett/tomac/bogle will be the top american riders in the lites outdoors this year. If Barcia does step it up this year and start to win races he will have to make big improvements on previous years efforts on the 250f- he's hardly won anything outdoors on the 250 and never been anywhere near the title chase!

There must a reason they started giving out individual honors at what is a Team race but I won't give you my speculation as to why. It is a team race and there are no individual winners imho. I think we might just see a little different series from Barcia this summer also. Time will tellCool

"That could sound a bit like making excuses for any rider"

In the last mxon, RV and RD were not pushing it in the first motos and did not push it. When they felt they were down the took 1st and 2nd. Roger is smart, I am sure he tells them they are the fastest team, not to crash, and get good overalls. Stewart was told not to try to beat Everts because we knew he could crash doing so. He gave up the personal win to make sure the team won. I was suprised he did this because this went against his nature. He either won or crashed, In the next year Stewart decided he would battle for the moto win, crashed and could not restart.

I guess it is good there is a carrot that dangles for the individual win, because if that did not exist, the Americans would dominate year after year with no recognition of any other country.

"sure its a team event in the end but its made up of individual races that count for the overal"

The announcers said it best. Every Euro team self destructs. They fall apart at the seams and crash out. The Americans often win by attrition. You cannot crash and win, so don't crash, The Euros never get good overalls because many of them go for the infividual win because their team has little chance of winning.

",personal wins mean a lot to riders too"

Fortunately we have a Roger, he knows that is not what is important, he tells riders like Stewart to bypass the glory for the individual win. The American team always says it. It is a team effort because they disregard the individual glory to get the prize and they do it year after year.

i think pro circuit will have some real competition this year, and we wont see the usual pro circuit dominance in the 'lites' class. Alot of the other teams have stepped it up, its going to be a great year for the fans! Cant wait for the stupidcross to finish and the real racing to start!

Which excuse would you like me to use.
The Americans win Mxon last year.
And the year before.
And the year before that.

The point is the Americans win, year after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year.

If the Americans won the World soccer championship year after year like they do the MXON, No countrys fans would say they are better than the Americas

The Americans win MXON year after year after year, that is the point. The Americans are better. Trying to say an individual is better in a team sport means very little..

I'm not disputing the overall win,I'm trying to explain individual performances, and Football isn't the best comparison, however since you mention it,that too is a team sport made up of individuals (except they all play at once and directly at only 1 team) the individual results within the teams count in that sport as a player needs to score a goal to win for the team, hang back and don't give 100% and you won't win,Team USA win year after year but wouldn't if their individual riders didn't give 100% at times,I think that's a fair point

I never saw Stewart's pitboard in that last Moto its be interesting to know what it said when Tedesco didn't come round in his previous position. To say Stewart would crash running Everts pace is a great compliment,I'm sure he'll appreciate that.If if both Ryans say they backed of in those Motos that's fine,Bagget's uncharacteristically poor results put a big dent in the teams chances (maybe Roger should of told him to go easy and avoid crashing?) and they may have regretted not giving 100% earlier, maybe not

There are definately times when settling for a place will do,however there are times when that extra place could be needed,as in the scenarios I've stated, just as an example,I find the contradictions confusing though saying the. MXdN is the only time we get to see which rider is bette, but then when some get beaten they're not giving 100% as its about the team, but that's all debateble I guess

Since you "Live " for these type of threads, maybe this one has made your day, even moreso arguing with some "Euros" here and not you're fellow compatriots Smile

450- Dungey's gunna pull through with the title in the last moto of the last round..

250- Well, theres to many to count as of now but i think Wilson, Roczen, Baggett, Musquin, Tomac, Bogle, Barcia, Durham, Stewart...

Somewhere along those lines, Although i wouldn't be surprised if all those riders got a moto win..

What would be cool though would be that a different rider for every round got the overall..

I would like to see RD and James Stewart be up front on the 450s but the 250s are hard for me to pick because I like so many of them and I think that there is at least 10 to 12 of them that can win on any given week.
To be honest though I just want to see all these guy's ride good and stay healthy. If they can all keep them selves from getting hurt we will see some great racing no matter who is out front.

Watch it be 105 this year, lol.

So are we on day 30 or 29?

Can't wait.... should be some awesome racing in the 250f class... can an American win their own championship this year against Deano, Musquin and Riczen?

Baggett, Barcia and Tomac are the three main guys that could do it... this title is too close to call!

450s might not be as interesting, even if Stewart does ride, it seems unlikely he will finish the season. RV against Dungey seems the main rivalry there unless, guys like Grant and Alessi find their A game and can mix it up. Gutted for BT as well.

Despite being Roczen's first year, I think he will do better than SX, and I don't think we have a Barcia-SX-performer in MX, so it's really an unwritten page at this point. Starvin Marvin I lost faith in last year, he newer stood out once as a title contender. Bagget can be crazy fast, but then all of a sudden goes slow?

My money is on Ken...
if memory serves me correct LAST TO 5th hope he's in the sharp end
